This morning I joined the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Union County Conservation District at the Turtle Creek Park in Union County to see the progress on the stream restoration.

It was great to see the marine life returning to the site, providing a great local spot for the next generation of fishermen to spend their summer days!

I had a great time handing out awards today at the Juniata County 4-H Sheep Show! I am always so impressed with all the talented, hardworking young people that put their all into every show.

This week, I was honored to present citations to John Treaster and Charles Armstrong Junior, commemorating both of their 57 years of service to the Yeagertown Fire Company.

People like John and Charles are the pillars of our communities and I was so grateful to meet them and celebrate their decades of selfless service.

What a privilege to attend the ribbon cutting at the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church today!

After a fire last year, T Ross Brothers Construction has been making extensive repairs to this beautiful, historic church.

HARRISBURG โ€“ Last night, the House passed a $47.6 billion General Appropriations bill for the 2024-25 fiscal year. This budget represents a 6% spending increase over the prior year. State Rep. David Rowe (R-Snyder/Union/Juniata/Mifflin) cast a โ€œnoโ€ vote and shared his concerns in the following statement:

โ€œThe agreed-to budget plan drastically overspends, appropriating $3.3 billion more than it takes in which will force the government to turn to taxpayers to foot the bill for its irresponsible spending in as little as three years. It also relies on one-time dollars from the federal government to create new programs and additional bureaucratic bloat.

โ€œI will not support a budget that puts an unnecessary financial burden on the residents of the 85th District. Pennsylvanians across the state are losing their homes to rising property taxes, and some cannot afford food and medication because of skyrocketing inflation. These are necessities. Our children and their grandchildren will be left to pay for the mistakes made.

โ€œI would have supported the Republican-led Senateโ€™s original proposal to flat fund the budget and pass the savings along to the taxpayers in the form of a $3 billion tax cut, but that proposal was not ultimately brought up for the final vote.โ€

Rowe emphasized that Pennsylvanians are reaching deep into their pockets at the grocery store, at the gas pump and when paying their utility bills. His constituents follow household budget plans, and he believes state government must do the same and be more responsible with taxpayer dollars. He is an advocate for legislation that would put additional guardrails on tax dollar spending like the Taxpayer Protection Act, which sets a maximum spending increase of 5.5%.

My House Bill 2339 to increase hospital pricing transparency passed the House today. Under the bill, hospitals would be required to display their pricing lists free of charge in a prominent location on the home page of their publicly accessible website.

Health care comprises 20% of the United Statesโ€™ economy, and thereโ€™s currently no functional market for consumers to compare prices and make informed decisions about where they receive medical treatment. You can drive across town to make sure youโ€™re getting the best deal on a car, but thereโ€™s currently no way to shop around for where you receive medical procedures where the cost savings could be as much as 700%.

This bill will change that for Pennsylvanians by bringing transparency to the healthcare market, driving down costs, and improving quality of care.

Yesterday, my House Bill 2286 passed the House with unanimous support. This bill would protect individuals and businesses who donate food that is past its manufacturer label date, but safe to consume by expanding certain liability protections. This would reduce food waste and protect those who donate while feeding Pennsylvania families in need.

On July 4, we commemorate the annual celebration of our nation's independence. The legal separation of the 13 colonies from Great Britain in 1776 occurred on July 2 when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence, but we celebrate on July 4, the date shown on the Declaration of Independence.

Have a safe and happy time celebrating with friends and family!

Last night, I hosted a telephone town hall for residents of the 85th District. I appreciated the opportunity to chat with so many folks about state-related news, legislative issues, and many of the great things happening around our community! Thank you to all who listened and asked questions!

To give my staff some time with friends and family, my district offices will close at noon tomorrow, July 3, in observance of Independence Day. We will reopen on Friday, July 5, with normal business hours. Have a safe and happy time celebrating our nation's independence!

The governor and PA Democrats want to spend $3 billion on special interest giveaways in the 2024-25 state budget. In stark contrast, House and Senate Republicans want to return that $3 billion to you, the taxpayers.

The House Republican Policy Committee recently met to discuss the impact of House Bill 2370, the Democrats' education funding proposal.

Their initiative would:

โœ…Place a burden so massive on taxpayers that property taxes would increase all over the Commonwealth.
โœ…Provide no meaningful measure of accountability for student success.
โœ…Cut funding to Pennsylvania's cyber charter schools, which educate more than 65,000 students.

Furthermore, the plan spans seven years, locking taxpayers into an expensive funding plan during continued economic uncertainty. Seniors and those living on a fixed income cannot absorb higher property taxes.

As a fierce advocate for educational freedom and fiscal responsibility, I will continue to advocate against harmful proposals like this that put students, families and taxpayers in jeopardy.

This week, I got a chance to stop by Stem to the Skies, a week-long camp for high-school students from all over the valley!

I had fun talking about the importance of careers in STEM fields and seeing the students in action! During the camp, students get to experience hands-on activities like building their own Bluetooth-enabled motorized paper airplane and spending an hour learning the basics of flying in the new, full-motion Redbird FMX flight simulator! Thank you, Dr. Vogel, for the invitation and for all your hard work investing in the next generation!

Hundreds of thousands of jobs in the STEM fields will need to be filled in PA alone over the next few years. Careers in STEM offer high-paying jobs in exciting industries and most of them do not even require a college degree!

You can learn more about this exciting local program at stemtoskies.org.

In 1854, the Republican Party was founded for the purpose of opposing the spread of slavery into the western territories.

Less than 10 years later, on January 1st, 1863, the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The proclamation declared "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free."

It would take two more years for the Emancipation Proclamation and the objectives of the newly-formed Republican Party to be fully realized but on June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Texas with news of freedom. More than 250,000 African Americans embraced freedom by executive decree in what became known as Juneteenth or Freedom Day.

This week, House Republicans unveiled a tax cut proposal identical to the plan that passed with bipartisan support in the Senate. The proposal would eliminate the Gross Receipts Tax on energy and cut the Personal Income Tax (PIT) rate from 3.07% to 2.8%. This means more money in every paycheck in Pennsylvania and critical energy savings for everyone who pays a utility bill. We believe you know best how to spend your hard-earned tax dollars. By slashing taxes, we can make Pennsylvania a more attractive place to plant roots and do business.

On the 80th anniversary of D-Day, we honor the courage and sacrifice of those who stormed the beach at Normandy. Over 2,500 Americans made the ultimate sacrifice, laying down their lives for freedom. May we never forget D-Day and all it stands for.

Yesterday, I stood with fellow members of the newly formed America First of PA caucus to advocate for putting the Commonwealth and country at the forefront of policymaking. This gave me the opportunity to highlight the rampant corruption in the rare earth mineral mining industry which is subsidized by American taxpayer dollars.

Even though Pennsylvania has the potential to have its own thriving mining industry, your tax dollars are routinely sent overseas to subsidize hostile governments and deplorable working conditions, like those in Chinese slave labor camps where dangerous child labor is the norm. By adopting an America First mindset and ensuring we are only spending American tax dollars on American-made products, we can prioritize Pennsylvanians and end taxpayer funding of our overseas competitors.
