Winter Solstice -
The shortest day and longest night.
Through ancient stones, shines mornings light.
The dark and chill will soon make way,
for sun and warmth with each passing day.
So lift your spirits, cast all dread,
and rejoice for brighter days ahead.

Love the writings and musings of the late John O'Donoghue..

If you've had a stressful week at work or in your home life, we hope you can make time over the weekend to find solace and peace in the nature that surrounds us.
Take care of yourself.
Namaste 🙏

When the mind is festering with trouble or the heart torn, we can find healing among the silence of mountains or fields, or listen to the simple, steadying rhythm of waves. The slowness and stillness gradually takes us over. Our breathing deepens and our hearts calm and our hungers relent. When serenity is restored, new perspectives open to us and difficulty can begin to seem like an invitation to new growth.

This invitation to friendship with nature does of course entail a willingness to be alone out there. Yet this aloneness is anything but lonely. Solitude gradually clarifies the heart until a true tranquility is reached. The irony is that at the heart of that aloneness you feel intimately connected with the world. Indeed, the beauty of nature is often the wisest balm for it gently relieves and releases the caged mind.

What can we say about our recent retreat in Courtmacsherry?! A wonderful group of people gathered on Friday morning..warm and friendly, smiling as they enjoyed homemade scones and coffee, and with an infectiously positive attitude!
The weather wasn't obliging with sunshine to allow outdoor activity, so we settled indoors and shared some invigorating chair yoga and relaxing yoga nidra, expertly devised by Ceara to suit all abilities.
Just in time, the clouds gave way to sunshine and we walked amongst the bluebells and wild garlic in Courtmacsherry Woods and enjoyed the fresh, sea air along the coastal Seven Heads Walk.
With a good appetite worked up, we returned to the Courtmacsherry Hotel and enjoyed top class service and the most delicious food.
Local man Jim Crowley gave an engaging and informative account of the rich history of the area, how the village developed and stories of lifeboat heroics, Antarctic explorer Patrick Keohane, and the West Cork Railway!
Afterwards, some of the guests travelled to nearby Broadstrand beach with Paul and Ceara for a refreshing dip in the sea to complete a fantastic day of relaxation and renewal.
Sincere thanks to all involved for making the experience so special.
Namaste🙏

I love these writings by the Irish poet John O'Donoghue. The words seem apt as I reflect on another wonderful experience, that of our day retreat in Courtmacsherry today.
We were joined by a fantastic group of people, some of older years, who had a lifetime of experiences behind them.
They made space in their lives to join us today, to share their company with us and to join in the yoga sessions expertly devised by Ceara.
They have found a stillness. A contentment. And it was contagious.
As I relax and unwind this evening, I'm grateful to the universe that allowed our paths to cross. For a brief few hours, our journeys intertwined and we learned from each other.
Such a memorable day.
Namasté🙏

Stillness is vital to the world of the soul. If as you age you become more still, you will discover that stillness can be a great companion. The fragments of your life will have time to unify, and the places where your soul-shelter is wounded or broken will have time to knit and heal. You will be able to return to yourself. In this stillness, you will engage your soul. Many people miss out on themselves completely as they journey through life. They know others, they know places, they know skills, they know their work, but tragically, they do not know themselves at all. Aging can be a lovely time of ripening when you actually meet yourself, indeed maybe for the first time. There are beautiful lines from T. S. Eliot that say:

'And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.'

We are getting really excited about our upcoming Chair Yoga Day Retreat in Courtmacsherry, West Cork which takes place on Friday the 20th of May.

Below I have listed some of the most frequently asked questions in relation to chair yoga. Feel free to DM with any other questions or to book your spot for our 3 remaining spaces.

What is Chair yoga?
Chair yoga is derived from traditional yoga which is practiced on the mat. Traditional yoga postures can be replicated as sitting yoga postures or yoga stretches using a chair.

Who is chair yoga for?
It’s suitable for individuals at all levels of experience and ideal for those with limited mobility as it doesn’t involve the up and down motion of traditional yoga on the mat. It’s also very beneficial for individuals whose work involves being in a static position for a lot of the day i.e. desk workers, drivers, lecturers, beauticians, hairdressers etc….

What are the benefits?
Increases flexibility, strength, mobility, proprioception, better balance, coordination, reduces stress & improves sleep as well as being low impact on joints

One of the positive aspects of the past 2 years has been a new appreciation of nature and the outdoors.
As we drift back into some form of 'normality', let's hold on to some of the simple pleasures we enjoyed during the pandemic... the walks in nature, inhaling the clean crisp air in the woods, the different textures and colours, sights and soothing sounds..

Our upcoming retreat takes place on a wooded hillside, nestled in nature, with beautiful gardens, nooks and corners to discover, as well as a guided walk through the nearby Mealagh Valley.

Join us over the weekend of April 22-24th and reconnect with nature and discover your inner calm.

It was lovely to get an opportunity to speak to the presenters of the Beara & Beyond show on Bere Island Community Radio over the weekend! Paul discussed the format of the upcoming retreat near Bantry, the yoga sessions led by Ceara, guided walk in the Mealagh Valley, mindfulness sessions, including a very interesting session with Anne Scallan of Wild Atlantic Mindfulness, and the stunning local produce and nourishing food being provided by Beibhinn Kelly of Beano & Ginger catering.

Paul outlined too how the event over the weekend of April 22-24th, will be his first time attending a yoga retreat too, and that it's very much tailored to suit people of all abilities, with no experience necessary.
With all that's being going on in the world over the last two years in particular, there has been a build up of stress and anxiety, and Paul, Ceara and the team at Namaste Wellness Retreats are hoping to help people disconnect themselves from all of those distractions and to make time for themselves, to recharge their own batteries and to learn new coping mechanisms to deal with everyday pressures and problems.

The presenters of the show kindly invited Paul back on in the near future, to discuss how the upcoming retreats go and to hear about plans for future events, potentially on one of the West Cork islands too!

You can listen back to the interview over the coming days, details below:

Bere Island Community Radio is on air today with Mass at 10am celebrated by Fr Noel Spring from St Michael’s Church Bere Island followed by Bere Island Discs with Barry Sullivan and then our Sunday programme Beara and Beyond at 11am with Eileen and Annie.

And breathe….

This is where I find my inner peace, it’s by the sea, practicing yoga, walks in nature, climbing a mountain, reading a book …

To practice finding your inner peace, it can be helpful to disconnect from all the things that steer you away from it.

With only 3 spaces remaining on our retreat in Bantry, we would love you to come join us and help you find your own inner peace.

If this resonates with you , feel free to DM us
