We would also like to thank Frank Buck Zoo for all of their continuous support and for our continued partnership in making this event possible. Who knows… more events like this may be coming soon 😉🧸🩺

Wild About Animals Wednesday! 🤯 🇿🇦 🦏
Let's talk about these real-life unicorns, the Rhino! Rhinos once roamed many areas of the world throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. Unfortunately, with habitat loss and persistent poaching... very few rhinos exist outside of national parks or reserves today.
Through conservation means (albeit still debatable amongst the scientific and public community), conservationist are doing their best to protect these majestic beasts through procedures like de-horning and continued negotiation to protect their various natural habitat ranges. With some of the thickest hides in the land, horns made of the same material as our hair/fingernails, and their love for a good mud pit...it would be absolutely devastating to watch this keystone species disappear. I mean who wouldn't want to protect these real-life unicorns at all costs!
🔊 How Can You Help!? 🔊

Wild About Animals Wednesday! 🤯 🥣 🇧🇷
This ain't about the fruit loops you had this morning (no judgement), but it is about the Toucan. The most well known tropical bird from Central and South America! There are several species of birds within the toucan family and all sport the large bill we know and love. Toucan's are know to reach deep inside tree cavities, dig deeply in order to prepare their nest more appropriately, and toss fruit to one another with their beaks during courtship rituals. What a versitile tool the beak can be! Toucans are primarily frugivores (fruit-eaters) with long, narrow, and feather-like tongues that have bristle adaptations that help with moving food down their throats. A life of eating fruit and play... Kellogg knew what they were doing when they created Toucan Sam! 😂
If you were questioning on if you should attend Teddy Bear Hospital with your little one... let us help you with this decision! Look at these smiling faces from a Teddy Bear Hospital conducted at Dr. Taylor J. Willis' veterinary alma mater, University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Who wouldn't want to bring an event like this back to their home state 🥹
Come one or come all and join us on Saturday, November 4th for this family friendly community event! This event will be held within Frank Buck Zoo in Gainesville, Texas. Your little one and/or even the young at heart will learn valuable information about veterinary medicine and animal care at various stations throughout the zoo as they become "Honorary Veterinarians" for a day. This is a weekend activity to venture through this amazing zoo with plenty of photo ops, candy/sticker stops, and much more at Teddy Bear Hospital!
REDUCED ZOO ADMISSION FOR THE DURATION OF THE EVENT.
We’re always happy to help in any way we can. No matter the age or professional titles, practice makes perfect ☺️📚💉
Wild About Animals Wednesday! 🤯 ❤️ 🐽
Ya'll ever met a pig with a cool mohawk?! Well, you still won't even today sorry haha. Let me tell you about the Peccary.
Both Peccaries and pigs are ungulates (hoofed mammals) within the same order as camels, hippos, deer - oh my! However, peccaries are in a completely separate family predominately found in North and South America. A farmer and conservationist without even trying. Peccaries grow their own food by planting seeds that they don't fully digest through trampling them into the ground. After doing all of that hard work, a mud wallow is 100% in their near future. As it should be, self care is important!
Wild About Animals Wednesday! 🤯 🐢 ❤️
Welcome one of the coolest living dinosaurs around... the Alligator Snapping Turtle (Marcrochelys temminckii)!
The largest species of freshwater turtle, these turtles are found exclusively within the United States. With the ability to stay still and motionless for so long waiting for there next meal while underwater algae will begin to grow on the backs of these spiny creatures. Plank game is on a whole other level! We talked about the Capybara's last week being able to hold their breath for a whole five minutes... but these guys are capable of holding their breath for 40 TO 50 MINUTES!
With a bite force of over 1,000 pounds, your bones do not stand a chance against these powerful jaws! So make sure your toes aren't looking like a nice little fish next time you are swimming 😉 👌
Wild About Animal Wednesdays 🤭🇧🇷 🤯
Let me introduce you to a rodent of unusual size... The Capybara!
Found commonly in South America along riverbanks, near ponds, and in marshes. Africa has hippos, but the Americas have Capybaras!!! Water is life for these guys and they can stay up to almost FIVE MINUTES under water in order to hide from various predators. Could you imagine holding your breath for that long?! We can't. Not even in the slightest.
Happy
