FarmStrong Flowers
Agriculture Welcome to our newest endeavor...WE BOUGHT A FARM! Join us on our journey as we use this page to post our trials and tribulations of owning land.
In 2017 our move to the Kansas City area led us to pursue a dream of owning a farm, so we bought almost 12 acres of crops in Bucyrus, Kansas, just 18 miles South of Leawood, Kansas and close to the State Line. From working with an architect, to picking a builder, to getting all utilities to the property, to developing a cut floral farm business and more!
Any guesses as to what this might be that’s blooming soon? 🤍 I know, but do you?
More colors coming out of the field. These blooms are still tight, but despite the old wives tales saying they won’t open further, they actually will open to their full glory in the cooler.
Never mind the dirt on the bloom on the left. I may have dropped her in the dirt. 🤍
Linda’s Baby is here. I cut her short and more open than normal, but wait until you see her fully open. We planted hundreds of her tubers, so I can’t wait to see her in so many events and weddings. 🤍
Harvesting hundreds of garlic scapes. They might be one of my favorite, unique cut flowers we grow. 🤍
Not the first of the Peaches dahlias, but the 5th, 6th, and 7th stems harvested. I forgot to snap a pic of the first harvested last week. These are the overwintered ones, but hundreds more of them coming on in the next month. About 1500 planted and 1500+ to still get in the ground. 🤍
Did you know is actually FarmStrong Flowers?
Sadly, by some fluke occurrence, insta banned our old account almost 2 years ago and we lost 6 years of followers and content. Meanwhile, our FB farm account is still intact and did not get banned with the same content. We also lost some business as a result.
I dread having to explain to customers how to find us on insta. But here we are! Just thought I would post an explanation for those that are newer followers who may not know why we are two different names here. 🤍
Specialty Shasta Daisies and Feverfew are starting to be harvested finally. Shastas usually don’t do well because they can be a bug magnet for us, but we are getting lucky this year with tall, usable, bug free stems. 🤍
It’s almost goodbye to our 2024 peony harvest. Until we see you again in 2025. 🤍
These early Wizard of Oz dahlias went to a Basehor, KS florist in need last Friday when her dahlias from another source crashed on her. Can’t wait to see how these wedding florals turned out. 🤍
Designed and delivered this bridal bouquet and groom’s Boutonniere this afternoon to for an intimate celebration in their Vinyard House.
All blooms are locally-grown by our farm, FarmStrong Flowers ( ) and the following farms:
No beauty shot here and no chemicals being sprayed. Just feeding the overwintered dahlias with molasses and soluble seaweed last night. 🤍
One of my subscription bouquet customers got her first delivery today. 🤍
Hundreds of Baptisia stems with green pods available as cut to order. Due to all the rains this spring, we did not cut as many Baptisia in bloom. Now we will have lots of stems with pods this summer and fall. Message me if you need any statement stems.🤍
What a day yesterday! We flowered this sweet wedding for Ana and Jarrodd with every single stem locally-grown from our farm, FarmStrong Flowers (AKA ), and farms around KC.
The venue was just a few miles from our farm and had such a darling vibe. I could not have done this without the help from the talented either. Can’t wait to see the professional photos! 🤍

The first dahlias of the season. Almost a month earlier than our normal season. 🤍
Tuesdays are for sand volleyball. 🤍
The next variety of super tall Astilbe was harvested today and will be coming to for our florists tomorrow. The address and times are in our insta bio. Not signed up as a buyer yet? Click the form link in that bio to get on the list. 🤍
A close up of the statice and its subtle, delicate florets. We have some longer stems as well. 🤍
This perennial statice is finally ready to harvest after a few years of waiting for it to establish. It’s my new favorite sub for baby’s breath. 🤍
We have peonies dry stored! Henry Sass (true white double), Myra McCrae (pink double), and Sarah B (classic pink double) are all tucked away in the walk-in cooler for future use. Any florists needing peonies in the next month, please let me know.
Thankful that my daughter agreed to do this last minute shoot with me this morning and that we took the time to capture a memory. So many peonies have flown in and out of the cooler already and I never get to shoot the loads of stems we have from our field. 🤍
I still can’t believe it! All of our overwintered dahlias are budding up and so tall. This one is getting bagged already to protect the blooms. It’s 18-24” tall. Typically it’s middle of June before we are seeing buds like this. Last year it was June 19th! We are a whole month ahead. 🤍
Taken at 9:40 pm tonight as I rapid harvested peonies, astrantia, penestemon (pictured), an armload of peach astilbe, the creamy/peachy/pink phlox, and hair allium all before the severe storm rolled in. Hence the not so great product photo. It was taken in our studio/garage amidst the crates of dahlias still waiting to get planted and the mess of the weekend of designing for some events. 🤍
Barbie was the theme of one of the graduation parties I flowered today. I love how the 3 Barbie cars and camper came out. 🤍 Found these cute rose colored glass bud bases to stay with the theme too. As always, I wish I would’ve taken better photos of everything, but at least got these.
All local flowers were used in these. All flowers were from the following farms:

Have to document the excitement and sadness related to this crop of butterfly Ranunculus. We lost about 800 or so of our varying ranunculus varieties over the winter due to trialing some new areas and ways to grow them on our farm. The last couple hundred survivors loved their current home in the shade behind our house and they’ve been trying to hang on through the heat of the spring.
We finally got the first cut today from the butterfly variety. More are budding up, but the heat this weekend may throw them into dormancy.
We have about 800 that we will be planting for fall stems though this year and hopefully the weather will cooperate for a successful crop. 🤍
Repurposed my harvest basket arrangement I made on Saturday at my Mother’s Day pop-up for the 8th grade graduation brunch at my daughter’s school. It was 7 days old, but still looked great. Some of the flowers crashed afterward, but so happy it got another use. Too beautiful to just use over Mother’s Day weekend. 🤍
We are trialing a specialty phlox this year and I’m finally able to harvest usable stems. These colors are so good. Just need to decide if they are worth the trouble they were to grow. 🤍
We will be again today with .custom.cookies from Noon - 4. We sold so many locally-grown, chemical-free flowers last year on Mother’s Day at the winery, so I’m excited to be back. You can find us in the She Shed next to the tasting room barn with more peonies that have been cozy in the cooler and some that were just harvested yesterday. We’ll also have allium, saponaria, cress, bearded iris, and snapdragons. 🤍

It was a busy day yesterday with for our local florists from 7:30-Noon and then hosted a darling group of Girl Scouts and parents for a little flower arranging with local flowers at the farm.
Finally harvested more peonies last night to start prepping for Mother’s Day pop-ups on Saturday and Sunday.
Don’t worry, the ones that are more open are for me to enjoy in my home. We don’t sell peonies that were past proper harvest stage to our customers. This means you will get the best vase life from your local flowers when you buy from us at FarmStrong Flowers. Keep an eye out for what unique offerings we will have for your Mother’s Day needs.🤍
Harvesting Pink Lemonade, Vanilla Cream and Chocolate Baptisia for tomorrows for our florists/designers. We have hundreds of stems. Chocolate is low quantity this week since it is always the later blooming variety we have. New varieties were planted a few months ago and will be added to our 2025 offerings. 🤍
I can’t thank this group enough for having me Thursday night. We had a fun private vase arranging workshop and these 15 ladies rocked it. All locally-grown stems were used from our farm, FarmStrong Flowers, and farm. We talked a lot about the importance and difference of local flowers, how to process stems before adding them to your vase, how to think about arranging each stem and how to care for the stems for the best outcome. 🤍
If you were at this event, please feel free to tag yourself. ☺️
