Feeding dahlias only natural sprays in the main field again. We don’t even use Organic OMRI approved products because there are still chemicals in many of them. It’s been so hot that we have been doing most of our field work in the early hours and later hours of the day. 🤍 #dahlias #naturalflowerfarm #regenerativeagriculture #soilmatters #kclocalflowers

Threw out some old poppy seed packets in early spring and a few germinated giving me this gorgeous jewel-toned poppy just in time to add to the wedding bouquet for Saturday. 🤍

We’ve been growing liatris for many years and my favorite part about it is that the butterflies love it! This is planted in our Monarch Waystation part of the field and the beneficials go nuts over it. My least favorite part of growing it is that it’s readily available at the wholesaler all year long practically. We try not to grow the things that wholesalers can buy in so we are bringing more variation to the florists. No loss though in growing and not cutting it all because it brings all the beneficial bugs we like to see. 🤍

You may have seen a previous post about Jolie’s Poppy Patch at FarmStrong Flowers that we transplanted from her rental house to our field as she was moving to her new farm. We also moved some of her larkspur and I’ve been cutting these gorgeous stems for her. A few Dr. Suessy stems due to some transplant shock, but mostly straight stems. 🤍 @joliescutflowers

This is our 3rd year with Astilbe and the shade tunnel has the first variety ready to harvest this season. Others are soon to follow and they are stems that are up to my waist! 🤍 #notillflowers #americangrownflowers #slowflowers

Want to be a commercial flower farmer even on a small scale? Then be prepared to spend big money a year in advance from getting any return on the investment. It’s the expensive, back side of non-hobby flower farming. This is just a small piece of that expensive aspect. On a brighter side, this will be going into the dahlia beds and we are about half way through planting over 3,000 dahlias. Our overwintered ones might even bloom early June! Insane! We have worked really hard at tweaking things to overwinter dahlias in our zone and it means earlier blooms for you. Dahlia season is my favorite season. 🤍 #kc #kcflorist #kclocalflowers #kcweddings

Jolie’s Poppy Patch at FarmStrong Flowers. 🤍 Recently my friend and fellow flower farmer @joliescutflowers bought a new farm in Kansas. She had some great growth on flowers she had started at their rental house, so we tried to get as many salvaged as we could. These are special to Jolie as they are a seed she wants to collect. I was so worried they were goners and they surprised us with flowers over the last couple days. We don’t have too much in our field that we just let bloom, so it’s a nice little spot that I get to enjoy for Jolie.

Come visit me on Saturday from 11-4 @serendipity_farm_and_vine along with 30+ other vendors and food trucks. It’s going to be gorgeous outside and there are lots of great goodies that will be available. Come support local flower farmers and buy some flowers for yourself or the Mother/Mother Figure in your life. 🤍 #kc

Peonies are so beautiful, even at this stage. These Sarah Bernhardts are large and just about ready to harvest. 🤍

Unloaded both new to us coolers! I did not think that was going to get tackled today with all the rain, but we did it! So thankful for Layla and Chris’ help when I know they’d rather be doing anything else. 🤍 SO many things to get caught up on since I was gone for almost 3 whole days. I hate feeling so behind! Rose, our Angora Goat, says “hi” in the video too.

Found this sweet smelling bearded iris hiding in the peonies. Since it was harvested too late, it will go in an order going out today for May Day. Time to move the iris intercropping since they are getting too hidden by the peonies each year. 🤍

All-time favorite allium and its scent is more like a peony. It’s truly the best. 🤍

I was pretty sure we were going to have peonies closer to mid April this year because of the weather, but it looks like they’re going to wait a little longer. This was a wonderful sight to see on one of our later Peony varieties this morning amid the looming severe storms that we are supposed to be getting over the course of the next few days. Hang in there little buddy. It might get rough out here. 🤍 This is why we farm without any pesticides, herbicides or fungicides. Only natural inputs and no harming the beneficials. #regenerativeagriculture #flowerfarmingchemicalfree #beneficialbugs

The fall planted field tulips are almost all harvested and now we have a fresh bed to plant seedlings into. This is one bloomed in the field and although I do t care for single tulips, it’s a beauty. 🤍

We are full to the brim at the flower farm and we are bringing back Shop The Cooler from last year! Over 5,000 unique tulip varieties are available. If you didn’t try the Shop The Cooler last year, you get to bring your own vase, buy one of our many styles of stocked vases or we can wrap your bunch of flowers you pick out of our cooler. You pay by the stem. These are what fresh flowers really mean. Not the Trader Joe’s that have spent too much time being shipped in from overseas and chemically treated flowers. These are the real deal. We grow without using any chemicals for pesticides or herbicides. This is available by appointment only, so private message me and let me know the day and time you’d like to come by and I will confirm with you. 🤍 #kc #kclocalflowers

Lots of tulip and narcissus harvesting today to get as much out of the field before the freezing temps overnight. Everything is covered and I’m looking forward to putting all the frost cloth away until the fall. 🤍 #kc
