Did you know that registration (premium account) of your pet's HomeAgain microchip can provide you with lifesaving advice from veterinarians, at no cost, through ASPCA Poison Control Hotline 24/7?

What do Do In a Poison Emergency:

If your pet has a HomeAgain microchip: Call 1-888-466-3242 and press option 2 for emergency services. You will need your pet's microchip number handy AND your pet's registration MUST be current.

Hello to all our fabulous supporters!! As you know, this year is the first year we did not do our annual calendar ticket fundraiser (our biggest fundraiser) as we did not know if we would remain open. Every year we participate in the Giving Tuesday fundraiser drive.

This year we decided to do something a little different! Something that would give you the opportunity to donate to Because of a Dog AND you'd get something in return!

If you donate $30-$74 you will receive a 5"x7" wall calendar AND a BOAD cloth bag (14"x15" and perfect for books or a laptop). One "set" per donation.

If you donate $75 and up you will receive a 5"x7" wall calendar AND a BOAD cloth bag (14"x15" and perfect for books or a laptop) AND a pen w/stylus and LED keychain flashlight! One "set" per donation.

But (there's always a but....) you'll have to act fast as we only have FORTY (40) of the bags and pen/flashlights! So, the first 40 people to donate $30 and up will be the lucky ones to receive these!

Shipping of the items to you is on us!

You can donate in the following ways:

PayPal: [email protected]

www.PayPal.me/becauseofadog

Venmo:

BOAD
PO Box 3158
Bethlehem, PA 18017

Please remember to put your address in the PayPal and/or Venmo "notes" when donating!

PLEASE NOTE: If you are donating via check please PM our page so we can hold the appropriate "set" for you! Otherwise, all the sets may be gone by the time we get your check!

A HUGE thank to for the BOAD bags!

Here’s some “happy” for y’all! Little Dolly is doing great after being spayed, having her left eye removed, and 3 baby teeth extracted on 11/15/2023. The first pic is of her leaving the hospital on the 15th. The second and third pics is her out and about outside to do her “business”. She’s feeling like a million bucks! And being super spoiled! And yes, she is wearing the jammies that BOAD got for her…

UPDATE: 11/21/2023 - the founder of the rescue we transferred Dolly to has fallen head over heels in love with Dolly. Looks like she’s home and staying with the founder as a personal pupper!!!

COURTESY POST
Found 11/17/2023 at 7:00pm at Rexford Dr/Campbell Dr, Bethlehem Twp, PA. Female, no collar, no chip. If this is your dog or you know who the owner is please contact BTPD at 610-759-2200.

Please no negative comments. We don’t know if she has a medical condition and was being treated by her owner and we don’t know how long she has been running at large.

This is NOT Medusa who has been missing from Whitehall, PA since 10/2022. Medusa is chipped - a chip was not located on this pup by BTPD. Medusa has a black nose - this pup has a pink/red nose. Medusa's markings across her shoulders are not solid - this pup has solid color across her shoulders.

UPDATE: 11/15/2023 - Please keep Dolly in your thoughts and prayers as today she will have enucleation of her left eye (removal of eye), spayed, and nail trim. Donations can still be done thru BOAD and all donations will be transferred to Powell House.

UPDATE: Dolly has been transferred and released to Powell House. But you can’t still donate to BOAD to help Dolly. We are applying donations right to their vet. Sorry but the vet does not accept donations for the account. We are an exception as we also have an account there.

UPDATE: 11/09/2023 - Karen Dolly (mostly known as Dolly because she's a doll!) saw the vet yesterday. Dolly is HW-! She was given meds for any tickborne diseases (Simparico Trio), weighs in a 7.4 #, estimated at 1 yr old, (she's still doesn't have all her adult teeth), received a rabies vax, nails trimmed, and is thought to be Papillon/Pom mix or Papillon/Norfolk Terrier mix. And now to her eye....when I first saw her it was hard to even see her eyes. When I stopped in at the groomer during mid-groom (thank you Amie at Muddy Pawz Grooming who groomed Dolly at no charge!) I could see that Dolly's left eye was cloudy. When I saw Dolly later that day I could see that her left eye was bulging. Sadly, I was right in my estimation that the eye was too injured to be saved. The vet confirmed yesterday that the injury is too grave - there is separation behind the eye which cannot be repaired. It appears that Dolly has no vision in that eye. Towards the end of next week or the beginning of the following week Dolly will go in for surgery for enucleation (left eye removal), spay, and to have the hard nodule at one of her lower teats checked. She will also need the rest of her vaccinations, follow up from surgery, etc. The cost for all of this is estimated at $1200-1300. This is just an estimate - remember that Dolly will be having TWO surgeries.

We would appreciate any help you can give Dolly - sharing, caring, donating.

A little update on Dolly's personality. She is housebroken, she is terrified of other animals, she has no idea what a food dish is, she is VERY clingy - to the point that she wants to be held or in your arms or lap. With all that being said - Dolly is a total sweetheart! She is currently in a home with 3 biggies and 3 littles. Introduction to the calmest little will be slow and introduction to the calmest biggie will be slow. So, Dolly needs time. We know that Dolly was the dog seen on 10/22/2023 in Freemansburg, she was finally caught by a good Sam on 11/06/2023. She had a whirlwind of activity! Running or at least 2 weeks on her own, caught by a good Sam, in custody of the police, seen by BOAD the same day, taken to groomer the next morning, etc etc. And last, but not least, thank you to the good Sam that caught her!!

*****************
UPDATE: 11/07/2023 - we need donations for this little girl. She was at the groomer this morning. Thank you Muddy Pawz Grooming!! She got washed 3x, mats removed, fully engorged ticks removed. Now that we can see her….the right side of her neck where a tick was has a lump and is painful, looks like there was tick on top of her neck that she somehow got off herself and that looks raw, left eye is very cloudy on one side, has a hard mammary lump, is not spayed. Unable to be seen by vet today but will tomorrow where the issues will be addressed and she needs bloodwork. She will also needs meds due to the number of engorged ticks (probably doxy) and she needs vaccinations.

We no longer do FB fundraiser due to how they changed it.

Found 11/06/2023 in the 400 block of Main st, Freemansburg, PA. Female, no collar, no chip. Please contact Freemansburg Police at 610-866-2221 or text BOAD at 610-737-9643 if this is your dog. Proof of ownership, rabies vax, and county license is required. This dog has been transferred to Because of a Dog.

This dog has quite a few mats - a large one that is painful on her chin and another painful one on the side of her neck. We will have this taken care of tomorrow morning and in the afternoon she will be assessed by the veterinarian as she is extremely thin.

And, because you know how we are.....we already got her a fleece jacket for her night walks tonight and tomorrow morning when it's cold. She's getting a pretty pink sweater to wear tomorrow after a good grooming and bath plus she's getting a pretty pink "winter coat". And, last but not least....pajamas. She's so thin she needed clothes.

Here’s a HOLY MOLY!! 14 breeds in Otis’ DNA! 😳😳😳

Otis (fka Jarod).

30/10/2023

Remember Jarod (black dog now known as Otis)? Picked up as a stray in Bethlehem Twp, PA on 09/07/2023. Severe flea infestation, massive secondary skin infection, ear infections. Bethlehem Twp Police were awesome with him. BOAD paid for emergency vet care and followed up with vaccinations and were able to get him into The Sanctuary at Haafsville because a wonderful foster stepped up. His skin is finally starting to show improvement as they did skin scrapes and he has yeast infection on skin and in ears. But look at him now!!

Please consider fostering! Fostering is what saved Otis and gave him a home! Please contact your nearest shelters and rescues to complete a foster application!

UPDATE: 10/31/2023 - All the cat food has now been distributed.

Huge thank you to Pet Supplies Plus - Easton, PA!!! For the month of August 2023, Because of a Dog was the recipient of donations. We can't just thank Pet Supplies Plus though! We must also thank everyone who donated for Because of a Dog! Tonight we picked up the donation. Chris, PSP Manager and really awesome guy, handed BOAD a $449 gift card for PSP! That was due to PSP and YOU! PSP Easton is 1 of 27 PSPs in their district. Because of the amount of the donations for BOAD, donated 15 bags of 35 # Chicken/Barley Receipe dry dog and 24 bags of 15 # Chicken Recipe cat food to BOAD! So we must give a huge thank you to Science Diet! We have already donated 10 bags of cat food to Laura and her gals who take care of a couple of cat colonies in Easton, PA, 2 bags of cat food to a woman in Moore Twp that takes care of a couple of strays, and 2 bags to a lady in Allentown, PA that takes care of 2 strays that she transitioned to indoor cats. That leaves us with 10 bags of cat food and 15 bags of dog food.

BOAD will be on the lookout for pet owners who are in financial crisis in feeding their cats and dogs. If you know of someone please message our page. We find that are quite a few pet owners in this situation that are older/elderly. If you know someone that fits this criteria please DM our page. We are offering 1 bag/household and it will be first come, first serve and those applying to receive food will be determined by our Board of Directors. We can not ship so this is for those that are local in the Lehigh Valley.

In the past when we have offered free food we found that some people came for food and then turned around and sold it. Please remember that doing this does not help those that really need it. We ask that only the people who are truly in need reach out to us.

Moose update! The last week of August we helped Moose who was having seizures and had congenital cataracts. Here is what his owner said…

“Hi all!! I’m here with a moose update.
Moose went for his eye testing earlier today and unfortunately moose is not candidate for eye surgery. His vision is not good but his doctor is happy with how he gets around in unfamiliar places and how he is doing so well even though his sight is awful.

Both eyes- immature cataracts, lens induced uveitis, persistent tunica vasculosa lentis, lenticonus. Left eye- microophthalmia

Moose will be on eye drops from now on and down the road it might be a possibility that moose may lose %100 of his vision, but he is doing amazing other than that. I wouldn’t have it any other way I love moose the way he is. Everyone tell me he if he ends up blind he’ll have a better life here with us then back with his breeder. Thanks everyone for all of the love and support.
With love and licks Moose 🩷🩷”

Moose and his family send their heartfelt thanks for helping us to help Moose. The donations we received in our fundraiser for Moose’s seizures and possible cataract surgery did help with the bill for the emergency visits and med for the seizures.

Please send blessings for Moose as he does have an upcoming neurologist appointment which the remaining donations will go toward.

This afternoon we helped Shadow, a 13 yr old senior. He had an awful abscess in his molar. We sent the owner to Rush Veterinary Urgent Care where he received antibiotics to take care of the abscess and pain meds. He will need a dental and, because of his age, he will need a full blood workup. However, that cannot be done until the abscess is cleared up and he sees vet for assessment. Today we paid $125 towards his ER bill. If you’d like to help us with that….

Please note that we are no longer doing FB fundraisers as it seems to be quite the process now!

We are NOT yet fundraising for a full dental w/blood workup. We will keep you posted on that.

Thank you everyone!

BOAD coming to the rescue in good old SC!! This street dog was found wandering the interstates’ frontage road near my office. A couple of sweet ladies from my department were able to entice her to get in the car. We were able to scan her for a chip (of course there wasn’t one) and the vet determined that she is 2-3 years old. She has found a wonderful home with a new family with children and everyone is in love! Thanks to the BOAD community, she has already received her vaccinations and is scheduled for a spay next week! We have also provided with leashes, a crate, seatbelt for her car, rides, and toys!

This is possible because of the wonderful reputation that BOAD has all across the southeast and beyond! Thank you BOAD community!! 💜

On Monday. 09/18/2023, we donated a lift support harness for a very large Boxer/Dane with a torn CCL. He didn’t even want to go outside to potty and he did not like a large towel being used as a sling. His owner drove 1.5 hours to pick this up - that’s how desperate she was. Please send positive thoughts and blessings to this family.

UPDATE: 09/20/2023 12:15PM - Barkley's surgery went well! His owners said the vet told them the bones fit back together perfectly. He has 2 pins in his leg - one long one down his femur and a shorter one at the top of the growth plate. He came out of anesthesia rolling over for belly rubs! He's currently still in the hospital because of "garbage gut" so they are trying to flush out any bacteria he may have ingested. Hopefully, he will be released to go home tonight.

Thank you to his owners for trusting BOAD to help offset the veterinary/surgical costs!

HUGE thank you to our fabulous supporters who came thru for Barkley by caring, sharing, and donating! A total of $1,160 was applied to Barkley's veterinary/surgical account!

**********

IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE NOTE: 09/19/2023 4:40pm - We are closing out the Facebook Fundraiser ($540). As you may or may not know, we will not see the funds for 30-60 days and the vet practice MUST be paid right away! We have now used almost all the funds we had in our account to apply the $540 from the FB fundraiser plus $205 from Venmo/PayPal to Barkley's account at the vet. HOWEVER, YOU CAN STILL DONATE VIA PAYPAL AND VENMO as we will have immediate access to those donations! Barkley should be out of surgery/recovery around 6pm tonight. We will let the fundraiser via PayPal and Venmo open until 5pm tomorrow 09/20/2023 which is the cutoff for us to call in the donations to the vet. (We won't see the funds from Jarod and Moose's FB fundraisers for at least another 45 days so we definitely cut it close!) So, please do not donate via the FB donate button for Barkley!

Meet Barkley! Barkley is a 5 month old lab who will be having major surgery today. As you know, surgery is expensive and this one is no exception. On 09/13/2023 at 5:30am Barkley was with his Dad when they got a flat tire on Route 22, Easton, PA. Dad pulled over at the 13th Street exit to change the tire and while he was changing the tire Barkley jumped out of the truck and ran. The family was frantically searching for Barkley for days. The community stepped up and aided in the search. Fast forward to 09/18/2023 and the owner got the call - a Good Sam found Barkley, had him in her car, and would bring Barkley to them. Barkley was then immediately taken to the emergency vet where xrays confirmed Barkley had a broken leg and a dislocated hip. Barkley will be having surgery today! Five days missing and Barkley lost quite a few pounds, was dehydrated, and very hungry. The 1st picture posted is prior to Barkley suffering injuries and the 2nd picture is when Barkley was reunited with his owner and on the way to the emergency vet.

Please send blessings to Barkley for a smooth surgery.

If you can help Barkley.....

PayPal: [email protected] (please note Barkley on your donation)

Thank you for donating, sharing, and caring!

BOAD is a recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit. Donations are tax deductible as defined under the IRS Code. All donations for Barkley will be paid directly to the treating veterinary practice.
