Don't.
Ask them how their day was. Listen intently.
Later you can ask them about their diabetes care.

We often look at our A1c as a report card.
We can feel judged.
It is important to remember that your A1c is simply an average of your blood glucose levels over the past 2-3 months.
It is NOT a measure of your worth, how good you are, or how bad you are.
It is history. Learn from it and move forward.

As much as I hate to say it, here in North America, summer is winding down and many families are sending their children back to school.
If you have a child with diabetes, going back to school can be extra stressful.
Before school starts, try to arrange a meeting with staff members to ensure that everyone understands their role in your child's care and that a clear plan of communication is in place.

When my son first started wearing a bracelet, it was a plain metal chain. Later he was able to get a nicer neoprene band.

Do you think diabetes should be considered a disability?
Some people strongly feel that it isn't, while others feel that it is.
My son feels that his pancreas is disabled. It does not work the same as a person who doesn't have type 1 diabetes. He therefore is fine with the label of "disabled". Despite being fine with being disabled, it is not a label that he feels restricts him in any way.
ATTENTION CANADIANS WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES
Did you know that you now qualify for the Disability Tax Credit based on your diagnosis?
You no longer need to fill out long forms or prove how you spend your time managing your diabetes care.
As of 2021, having your doctor certify that you have type 1 diabetes will make you eligible to receive the DTC tax benefit.
In Canada, the first Monday in August is a holiday for many provinces.

😎If you are experiencing summer right now, make sure to keep your insulin pump, glucometer, and your cellphone away from extreme temperatures. High heat will cause insulin to spoil and devices to shut down.
☃️If you are experiencing winter right now, you also must be careful with your insulin and devices. They also will not perform when it gets too cold!
