I will be 40 next year (😱 shocking, I know). Which means for the last 35ish years, I’ve been consumed by my weight. And I realized.. I don’t want to enter another decade consumed by something that matters so little.

Never happy at my smallest. Certainly never happy at my biggest.

Constantly trying to shrink myself to fit into someone else’s idea of who and how I should be.

And you know what I realized? I’m really, really tired of that mentality.

I’m tired of putting so much of my time, energy, and worth into something that honestly doesn’t matter.

And you know what else I realized? You probably are, too.

The things about me that matter.. are the things that have more to do with the size of my heart and the size of my brain than they do the size of my stomach.

How I treat people. The things I’ve accomplished.

Not if I can squeeze into last year’s jeans.

It’s not an easy habit to break. But I’m committed to giving it my all.

Because I know that character > size any day.

Awkward? Maybe. But aren’t we all? Hard to do? Probably. But it’ll get easier with practice.

It’s not just about losing weight.

For me, it’s been about taking control of the things I know I CAN control.

It’s been about shifting my mindset so that I no longer feel ashamed of my body, but so proud of what it has endured, and what it’s been capable of doing and overcoming.

It’s about feeling confident no matter what I wear; whether it be a dress, or a ratty pair of sweatpants.

It’s in knowing that I’m setting a good example for my son, and taking care of myself both mentally and physically - two things that will keep me healthy for years.

I talk a lot about weight loss. But it’s more than losing pounds.

It’s about gaining happiness, confidence, a sense of control, pride, contentment, and a drive to reach new goals. ❤️

This might offend some people…

Between now and Monday your newsfeed is going to be littered with people sharing random before/afters and letting you know that you can shed weight with the help of a drink mix, a tea, or a workout program that doesn't involve a whole lot of effort.🤷‍♀️

And.. while maybe that is true for some.. please, please, please do not jump into those posts or hand over your credit card details blind.

Because the truth is…

🚫There is no magic tea or drink mix
🚫There is no magic pill
🚫There is no magic program

Weight loss is achieved by…

👉Eating at a caloric deficit
👉Exercising (to lose fat.. you want to build muscle, which means strength training).

To enhance your results..

🥗Eat Whole Foods 80% of the time
💦Stay hydrated
😴Get adequate sleep
🧘‍♀️Watch your stress levels
Repeat forever.

I’m all for cheering on your New Year’s Resolutions.. but make sure you know what goal you’re truly setting this year, and outline the best plan to get you there.

Can we just take a moment and admire how beautiful my friend is?!

Heather is proof that sometimes less is more.. and that when you really focus on the endgame vs instant results.. good things happen.

6 weeks progress of focused strength training with progressive overload and consistent macro tracking. 🔥

This lady is the true definition of strength. She's a busy single mom of TWO kiddos, works full time, and yet she still finds time to put in the work. Her determination and consistency have been absolute weapons these past few weeks.

What did she do?

1. She actually worked out LESS.
2. Focused on weight lifting as her primary mode of exercise to build lean muscle mass.
3. INCREASED overall calories.

I think the results speak for themselves. 👏

That snooze button sure sounds good now. But is it going to still sound so good 6 months from now when you've made no progress toward your goals?

Discipline isn't easy.

It requires feeling uncomfortable, and sometimes doing things in the moment that you don't feel like doing.

Self-sabotage is the opposite of discipline.. did you know that?

If you have a goal, then you have to convince yourself you're worth achieving that goal.

And if you're waiting for motivation to take action.. then my friend.. we need to chat.

Do the thing. Take the action. Be a little uncomfortable, or grumpy, or tired. But get up, and work on your goals.

Your future self will thank you for it.

Out of everyone, I get it. I’m busy. I’m a mom, I work full time, I manage a household, and I have a 12 year old who plays competitive national-level travel baseball. His schedule is more packed than some adults I know.

So what do I do?

I find myself letting my needs and my goals slip. Because I put him first and I put everyone and everything else first, thinking that’s what I’m supposed to do. That’s what makes me a good mom.

Except what if it isn’t?

What if by me putting myself last so that he can be first, I’m doing the opposite. In not taking care of myself I’m actually hurting my future. Hurting my health, and hurting him in the long run.

The truth is, we owe it to our children to be healthy for them. If you can’t quite wrap your head around the truth that you owe it to yourself, then at least know that you owe it to them.

Set the example. You can squeeze in 20-30 minutes of activity a day. You can opt for the healthier foods. You can make yourself a priority because they deserve a healthy parent, a happy parent, and someone who will be around as long as possible.

The excuses will only hurt everyone who loves you in the long run.
