Nechama Leah Vocal Studio
I help Jewish female singers get out of their head and start singing with freedom, ease and soul. ✨
Hey Israel peeps! I’m performing in this show THIS THURSDAY! Come out and enjoy a beautiful show, cause you know we all need some good vibes in our lives right now.
Got this great question! Hope the answer helps you. 💖
Mmmkayyy? Let that sink in.
Cause you’re hard on yourself.
I am too.
You may not be where we want to be technically, but that doesn’t make you a bad singer, it makes you human.
It means you’re a work in progress.
And guess what? You always will be, thank G-d!
Keep showing up for your own practice, and keep sharing your light.
No matter what stage you are in your vocal journey.
Has a voice teacher ever asked you, “so how did that feel?”
And you’re like uhhhh… fine?
Or maybe your response had something to do with how it sounded rather than felt.
This is pretty common!
I ask my students all the time how a passage or exercise felt for them.
Over time they get good and understanding what I’m asking of them.
I’m not asking if sounded good or better.
I’m interested in hearing about the SENSATIONS they felt, and how it maybe was different from a previous time.
Does it feel good/bad, tight, tense, fluid, effortful, easy…?
Maybe some imagery came up during an exercise, that’s cool too!
All of these have to do with YOUR experience as the singer.
NOT anyone else’s experience as the listener.
And the reason we care is…
✨How singing FEELS is a way better indicator of good technique than just the sound alone.
This is so important!
So it means trusting yourself and your body’s sensations and listening to those cues.
Stay tuned for another post soon about how to get more in touch with your singing sensations.

Ah this elusive thing we call creativity… ✨
Join us on Sunday for an Instagram LIVE about dealing with the ups and downs as an artist and how to respect and channel the creative process.
Bring your coffee and your questions! ☕️🙋🏻♀️
Can’t wait to chat with you all. 💖
Ever feel like this?
Raise your hand if anybody has ever told you something negative about your voice? 🙋🏻♀️
It happens to all of us in some way or another, believe me.
Maybe that person hating on your voice was even you.
Maybe your choir teacher in 4th grade asked you to lip sync instead of sing out loud (WHY is this story so common??)…
Or you’ve compared your voice to other singers and labeled your sound as “not good enough” in some way.
At my very first voice lesson with my college professor, she told me, “you have a fast vibrato, and I don’t know if you could ever be a singer.”
😳😱😰
I’m not sure she would even remember saying that to me if I reminded her today.
But you better believe that has stuck with me for these past 15 years and has affected how I feel about my voice.
‼️BTW if any voice teacher tells you that you can never be a singer because you have some technical issue, RUN‼️
All it takes is one thought seed to be planted. 🌱
And if we choose to water that thought by thinking it again and again, that idea becomes a part of us.
That thought is now a belief.
I invite you to challenge any of those negative thoughts that you’ve let become beliefs about your voice.
Instead come up with a few new thoughts that you can integrate into your singing mindset.
Let me know in the comments what positive thought about your voice you want to make a belief. 💖
It’s OFFICIAL!!! 🎉👏🏽🍾
I now have my Instructor I Certification from ! 🤩
Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA) is no joke and they really challenge us to be great teachers.
I am so grateful for all the tools I’m gaining all the time through this program and it’s amazing community of voice teachers.
🎶 Some of you might know that I went to music school and got a degree in music, but as a performance major I didn’t get many practical skills for teaching vocal technique.
So I joined IVA a year ago, and it’s been the best decision ever (ok like in the top 5 best life decisions). 😎
I’m really passionate about helping aspiring singers, and the more I learn the more I can help you be the singer you want to be.
🙋🏻♀️ If you want some help to level up your singing, PM me or inquire about lessons here: https://forms.gle/RMbNVDub8kWjinjR8
I’d be honored to be a part of your singing journey. 💜

You know that feeling when you take a breath, open your mouth to sing and doubt that anything good is going to come out?
And usually as soon as that doubt and fear creep in, we've totally lost it.
But when you inhale and just TRUST that your voice will be there for you, it usually is.
When we get caught up in controlling our sound and second guessing our abilities, we get into trouble technically.
So this is just a little reminder to trust yourself.
Trust the innately beautiful voice you have.
Trust that you have something worth sharing.
Happy Singing. 💜

Just in case you need to hear this today… 💜
No matter where you are in your vocal journey, your voice is beautiful!
Your voice is POWERFUL.
You are worthy of sharing that voice.
Don’t let yourself get hyper-focused on where you’re not, and allow yourself to be appreciative of where you are.
Right here, with a voice that can siiiiiiing! 🤩
I’m so grateful to be able to work with awesome songwriters who inspire me all the time!
has such positive energy and has been working hard on her craft. Check out her page and her recent music video release!
Are you also a songwriter and want to be able to sing your own songs with more confidence?
I’d love to help! 💜
I came across this quote when I was studying my IVA materials, and it was like 💡💡💡!
Let’s talk about what this means... 🤯
First off, a lot of us learn to tank up air.
We're told to concentrate on filling up to the max and then controlling exhalation from our core.
Now there’s nothing wrong with being connected to your core. You need that.
But excess air pressure causes instability in the larynx.
This can happen when we over-activate our ab muscles to exhale.
So this quote is basically saying: take in a good breath (low, with ribcage flexibility, abdominal release and all that good stuff)… but when it’s time to start singing, just ✨let the air out.✨
There is already air pressure “accumulated” at your larynx, so the extra PUSH isn’t necessary.
Pushing will throw your vocal cords out of balance and make them work harder than necessary to vibrate.
We’re all about efficiency when it comes to the vocal cords!
🎤 Practice tip: Let the onset of your sound be smooth. This should feel good and without a hard glottal stop.
Does this make sense?
💜 Hit me up with your questions or let me know if this helps you.
This melody came to me several months ago, and then I kinda just forgot about it…
I remembered this chorus when my husband said to me, “it’s parshas L**h L**ha this week!”
I’ve always felt connected to this parsha and the idea of leaving home.
I’ve done it a few times now.
Of course converting to Judaism was my biggest “move” and I’m still searching for the words to describe that process for me.
This might be the perfect song to do it.
Should I finish it?? 📝☺️
