Happy new year! Well, not exactly but September always feels like a new beginning to me. The kids are back at school and I'm happy to be back in the studio. We had a lovely summer here in Margate with lots of trips to the beach, fish & chips and hanging out with friends. We also squeezed in a short trip to visit family in Wales and later, France. I'm hoping there's still a couple more BBQs and dips in the tidal pool to be had but I'm also looking forward to focusing on my work and getting stuck into some exciting projects. I have lots of new products lined up, some ready to go and some still in development so keep an eye out for these and don't forget the best way to be sure of keeping in touch is to sign up to our mailing list. ❤️ Ruby | Red plant stand with metallic detail

Inspired by Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2023 ‘Viva Magenta’ we have created ‘Ruby,’ this stunning tall plant stand in vibrant red. This solid wood vintage plant stand has been hand painted and waxed. The fluted carved details have been highlighted with red dyed genuine silver leaf. The hand gilded finish has a beautiful texture, a soft sheen and natural variations in colour.

The dyded genuine silver leaf I use for my candlesticks is such a beautiful finish. The colours are vibrant but not harsh and have a gorgeous soft sheen. And they all work so well together. It's a tricky material to work with being more brittle than imitation silver leaf but so worth it!
These luxury, sustainable candlesticks have been handmade from reclaimed antique and vintage table legs. Each candle holder is a one-off handcrafted piece.

Named after the tall blue spires of the delphinium, this half moon console table, with its sleek fringing and gilded bobbin trim is a bold and theatrical piece that would make an eye-catching focal point for a hallway, sit neatly in a living room alcove or make a perfect small home bar styled with a tray of drinks.

Hand painted in a rich and vibrant royal blue eggshell paint (Dart Frog by ) this solid wood table has been completely transformed into a unique and stunning design statement. Yesterday I had the privilege of being an undercover judge for the New Talent Award

Curated by Jennifer Castoldi of New Talent is a selection of creative and innovative designers working in a diverse range of media. It was such a pleasure talking to everyone and hearing all about their exciting projects.

I was asked to choose my top 3 and here they are.

1. .mafa who have developed a new material called Erth that is made from cow manure! It's strong and beautiful and of course wonderfully sustainable

2. .textiles who has designed a collection of textiles inspired by lichen and made using reclaimed textiles. Luxurious and sustainable

3. whose textiles and in particular artworks woven from silk thread absolutely blew me away with their beauty

I'm delighted to say that I wasn't alone in my admiration of .mafa and they won the award - congratulations to you both and good luck taking your project forward.

Also happy that .textiles got an honourable mention - very well deserved

Things are slowly coming together here after a few days of feeling poorly! I always have high hopes of what I'm going to get done business wise in the last week or so before Christmas and it always goes out of the window when the kids break up and the reality of just quite how much preparation there is to do sets in!

My first foray into marbling and I'm addicted! I absolutely love this piece - I'm always partial to a drinks trolley but I think the bobbin detail, the vivid orange silver leaf and the marbling really elevate this one to new heights! I've used the gilded bobbin detail before in my Delphine console table and I think it will definitely be back in the new year as will the marbling and, naturally, the gilding. What do you think of the marbling? Which detail do you like the best? I'd love to know!

This vintage drinks trolley has been transformed with the traditional techniques of gilding and marbling to create a stunning, contemporary piece perfect for entertaining at home. The shelves have been covered with a one of a kind marbled paper made here in our studio using the traditional Ebru marbling technique. The paper has been sealed with a satin varnished and glass has been added to protect it further. The luxurious metallic finish of the frame is a dyed genuine silver leaf in blood orange which has a beautiful soft sheen and natural variations in colour. The silver leaf has been carefully applied by hand and varnished for protection.The addition of the half sphere bobbin detail teamed with the bold orange colour gives the piece a modern aesthetic.

Perfect for entertaining at home, this trolley would make a beautiful bar cart or it could be styled with a vintage tea set. It would sit well in a period property but work equally well in a modern setting. Like all our products, this drinks trolley is a one-off handcrafted piece.

Gilded Barleytwist Candlestick | Peach Silver Leaf

Inspired by Pantone's Colour of the Year for 2024 'Peach Fuzz,' these luxury, sustainable candlesticks are perfect for evoking that nurturing feeling of warmth and cosiness the colour reflects. They also capture the modern elegance of this timeless peach colour. 

The one-off candlesticks have been handcrafted from reclaimed antique barleytwist chair legs. They have been gilded with silver leaf which has been carefully applied by hand and varnished for protection. The luxurious metallic finish is a dyed genuine silver leaf in a peach colour which has a beautiful soft sheen and natural variations in colour.

The collection has been designed to be mixed and matched, with all colours working well with each other. They are also a strong enough statement to work on their own and a number of designs, including this one, can be bought in pairs.

Introducing Luna!

This unusual mid-century bow-fronted display cabinet from quality furniture makers ‘Nathan,’ has been given a new life as a bold, contemporary piece.

Hand painted in ‘Fresh Lilac’ from .colours, Luna has a sleek and ethereal look with rounded edges and soft curves. A beautiful iridescent film has been applied to the original curved glass cabinet doors – the colour shifts from purple through to orange depending on the angle of view and is both mirrored and transparent.

Inside, two glass shelves can be used for displaying curios or perhaps a selection of bottles. A new, remote controlled, mains powered LED spotlight has been fitted internally which allows the piece to glow warmly in the evening and illuminate the contents. In low light the colours of the iridescent glass become stronger. This show-stopping one-off piece would make a stunning cocktail cabinet or a talking point as a place to display your treasures.

Here's a little for you! Haven't done one of these for ages! These luxurious candlesticks have been made from pieces of an antique chair back (swipe to see!) It's quite a long process to make them including cutting, sanding, drilling, gluing, priming, painting, gilding and varnishing! But I think they're worth it. The finish is a blood orange dyed genuine silver leaf and it really is such a beautiful material - it's impossible to do it justice in the photos. These gilded candlesticks made from reclaimed table legs finished in real silver leaf are both super luxurious and sustainable and I think would make a pretty special Christmas present. Well, well hello there... yes I am still here folks! Just been stuck down a massive marbled rabbit hole the last couple of weeks! You know when you have an idea and nothing else will do so you spend the next three weeks learning a whole new craft just to achieve the finish you're looking for...? No? Just me then?! 😂

I've been trying my hand at the traditional Turkish craft of Ebru marbling. It's basically witchcraft! 😂 Ingredients like carrageenan moss extract, potassium sodium phosphate and my personal favourite - ox gall - extract of bovine gallstones! 😱 Then once you've mixed up all your potions you need a fair amount of magic to get all the elements to play nicely together and produce something like the desired result. Needless to say there have been more than a few moments of frustration! But it has also been incredibly exciting and enjoyable and I am very happy with the results. I now have exactly what I wanted to finish the piece I'm working on (and it's only taken three weeks 😂) and I will definitely be using this technique again - I want to marble EVERYTHING!

A mood board for the mini collection I'm working on. Do you like this combination?

Clinging on to the last days of summer here in Margate whilst pushing through the first of the winter colds! 🤧 Lemsip in the garden today!

Nevertheless I've been busy in the studio working on a new mini collection which I'm very excited about and hope to have ready by the end of October. As you may imagine there will be gorgeous colours and some rather special details and finishes.

I can't believe it was a year ago that we were at the exhibiting with ! We made quite an impression with our bold and colourful stand and met so many interesting people. Patricia, our pink iridescent cabinet, was a real hit and got a lot of attention including a feature on the website. She's now sold but I do have something similar in the pipeline because I just love that iridescent glass 🩷

I've got bad FOMO this week seeing everyone's pictures from Focus 23 ! If you haven't seen it yet do take a look at the beautiful cinema seats Anniken made for the x collaboration. I will share it in my stories for you. And reel including the new collection by x Absolutely stunning! Might have to see if I can wangle a day up in London later this week.

But I've been here in my studio working on a few new pieces including some lighting, a glass cabinet and a drinks trolley. Just in the prep stage at the moment but when I have something more beautiful to show you I will! In the meantime here are some stills of a recent piece called Delphine. So, time for the back to school, back to work post! I had planned to do this last week but what with my visit from plus the unexpected hot weather.... well it just didn't happen! But I'm here now and properly back to it today. I have to say it is such a joy to be back in my studio getting stuck into some new projects. As always I have too many ideas for new pieces and am struggling a bit to decide what to do first but you can certainly expect bright colours, gorgeous curvy shapes and a touch of gilding (naturally!)
