5 Super Nutrients To Detoxify The Body During Air Pollution
Air pollution can cause damage to the body’s cells and increase their degeneration.
Pollution increases the amount of free radicals formed in the body whichare responsible for clinical conditions and also cause aging.
Respiratory tract infections, breathing difficulty, increased levels of stress, heart problems and other diseases are on an increase due to alarming levels of pollutants in the air.
Two organs which need the maximum protection against pollution are the liver and the lung.
These two need to be detoxified so as to reduce the damaging effects of free radicals on these organs.
Many nutrients in foods have been identified to boost immunity, detoxify the body and help it get rid of the free radicals:
- Flavonoids:
These are organic compounds found in green tea, berries, cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower and broccoli and green leafy vegetables like spinach and mustard leaves. Also in Dark chocolates and coffee. These are plant metabolites and are found in abundance in colored plants. These are easy to incorporate in diet and help to reduce cell damage due to pollution
- Vitamin C:
It is found in good quantities in citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, sweet lime, strawberries, etc. It is most abundant in Indian gooseberry (amla).Vitamin C is a very powerful antioxidant and helps in reducing body’s oxidativestress. It helps to prevent many clinical conditions like cold and flu and also helps in rebuilding bones, tissues and blood. Conscious relaxation – SHAVASANA
Life these days has become stressful and ways which we know to relax do not give much relaxation.
Even the sleep that is required to provide relaxation, is not sufficient and not generally a sound sleep.
Given the hustle and bustle of life, we need to relax consciously. In yoga, we have an amazing technique to do so.
It is called Shavasana. “Shav” means dead body or co**se. So it is also called the co**se pose.
During this pose, we have to be as still as a dead body – no movement at all.
Procedure :
- Lie down on the back.
- Feet approx. 2-2½ feet apart.
- Hands apart from the body say about 8-10 inches. Palms should be facing the ceiling.
- The body should be aligned straight.
- Once one is comfortable then there should be no movement in the body.
Imagine yourself in a beautiful garden. Follow normal rhythmic breathing.
Start by getting your attention to the tip of your toes and relax them, now relax your ankles, knees, thighs, arms, a**s, reproductive organs, naval, stomach, heart, neck, lips, the tip of the nose, eyes, space between your eyebrows, forehead and finally head.
Your full body is relaxed now.
Do this for 5-7 minutes.
Slowly bring back your consciousness to your body and make the subtle movement of hands and legs.
Bring your legs together and make a pillow of your hand turn to one side and rest.
Taking support of your hands turn to one side and sit up in a cross-legged position without opening your eyes. Cup your eyes with your palm and slowly open your eyes.
Shavasana gives a feeling of relaxation and peacefulness.

Despite the controversies associated with consumption of oils and fats, it is important to note that these are one of the essential nutrients.
They are important for various critical functions of the body.
Fats and oils perform some important functions in the body.
Both the quality and the quantity of fats have a great impact on our health and disease and therefor, the quality of life we lead.
Let us now know the functions of fats.
The important functions that fats and oils perform in the human body are:
- Fats, in the form of glycoproteins are the main structural component of the covering of each and every cell in the body. Sphingomyelin and cholesterol (different types of fats) are important structural components of membranes (coverings) of brain and the nervous tissue.
- These are required for the digestion and absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamin A, D, E and K. In the absence of fats in the diet these will not be absorbed leading to the deficiency of these vitamins and related deficiency diseases.
- Fats and oils are essential for the synthesis of many hormones, especially steroid hormones, such as estrogen, progesterone and estrogen. These hormones are responsible for a healthy reproductive system. So, fats and oils are important for a healthy reproductive system.
- Fats and oils are required for the formation of bile which is a digestive enzyme and an essential fat – cholesterol. If the diet is deficient in fats, bile acids and cholesterol will not be synthesized leading to many health issues.

Best Heart Healthy Cooking Oils
The best heart-healthy cooking oils are those rich in poly and mono-unsaturated oils.
These heart-healthy oils are found in whole foods such as nuts, seeds, vegetables, and fatty fish.
Heart-healthy oils help to reduce the harmful low-density lipoprotein (LDL cholesterol or harmful cholesterol) in the blood, boost brain function, and support satiety.
It is recommended that about 15-30% of the total daily calories should come from fats out of which 8-10% should be from saturated fats and the rest from mono- and poly-unsaturated fats.
Most researchers have proved that the consumption of increased amounts of saturated fats along with a diet high in refined carbohydrates is more harmful to heart health compared to the consumption of correct types and amounts of oils.
Hence the question, which oils are to choose for better heart health and health in general?
Flaxseeds Oil:
Flaxseeds are well-known for their powerful health effects. The health benefits of flaxseed oil also known as linseed oil are:
Health Benefits of Flaxseed Oil:
- Good source of ALA (α-linoleic Acid ) a type of ω-3 fatty acid (an essential fatty acid) which is not produced in the body
- Reduces platelet aggregation (clot) in the arteries, helpful in improving heart health.
- It helps to reduce blood pressure and is therefore heart-friendly.
- Flaxseed oil helps to reduce inflammation, helping to reduce the burden of chronic diseases like obesity and diabetes type 2.
- Helps reduce the risk of some cancers due to the presence of lignans (a phenolic compound).
- Flaxseed oil also helps improve digestion and prevent constipation.
- Good source of minerals which include calcium and magnesium.
Uses: Flaxseed oil should not be used for frying or baking as it has a low boiling point, so heat could affect the quality of oil it is best suited for salad dressings and in smoothies, etc.

Oils for Proper Growth and Development during Childhood
Fats and oils are essential for proper growth and development, especially during infancy and childhood.
They are required for the proper development of the brain, the nervous system, eyes, and skin.
Fats are essential for providing energy during infancy and childhood. Generally, young children should be receiving between 30-40% of their calories from fat.
Mother’s milk and most infant formulas provide 40-50% of their energy as fat.
Fats are required not only as an energy source but also to provide essential fatty acids (omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids) and also fat-soluble vitamins to the body.
The fat-soluble vitamins are vitamins A, D, E, and K.
These essential fatty acids are vital structural elements of cell membranes and, therefore, instrumental in the formation of new tissues in the fetus and the child.
These fatty acids also play an important role in the synthesis of growth hormones, essential for proper growth and development in children. DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), one essential fatty acid found in some oils, is crucial for the development of the brain, nervous system, and retina.
Proper development of the brain and the nervous system begins as early as 6 months of age and continues throughout childhood and adolescence with spurts of development identified at 2 years of age, 7–9 years of age, and during mid-adolescence.
AA (arachidonic acid), another essential fatty acid, is vital for the proper development and functioning of the brain, muscles, and liver.
Both these fatty acids are also essential for skin, eye, and heart health.
The deficiency of these fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins, especially during periods of growth can cause, mental slowing, delayed milestones, and skin and eye problems in children.
These may also be the cause of heart problems later in life.

Bhadrasana-Exercise to Reduce Thigh, and Hip Fat
BHADRASANA/THRONE POSE/ BUTTERFLY POSE
Bhadrasana is an asana for the lower extremities. It exercises the unused or less used muscles of the thighs pelvic organs and groin area.
It is a very simple but very effective pose for our lower extremities i.e Bhadrasana also known as the throne pose.
Our emotional mental and spiritual well-being depends on our physical well-being.
Since the body mind and spirit are connected. Good health supports mental sharpness and clear thinking. There is a famous quote that says “Take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live in”
Thus the practice of asana renders the body a worthy seat of spiritual experience.
Most of the poses or asanas are imitations of birds’ animals and surrounding things eg. Mayurasna depicts a peacock, gomukhasana depicts a cow and Bhadasana depicts the throne.
Instructions to do the asana:
- Sit on the floor with the legs fully stretched out.
- Now draw both legs nearer to the body, keeping the legs in contact with the floor, with the knees bent outward and the soles of the feet together, inhale bringing the soles close to generative organs, the heels touching the perineum very closely.
- Now place the hands on the respective knees pressing them down and hold the pose for 10 seconds.
- Exhale and return to the starting position with the legs stretched out.
- Repeat without pause, remembering always to keep the upper part of the body and the neck erect.
- Give slow butterfly movements by slightly lifting the knees and pushing them down. This helps in increasing the flexibility in the hip joint.
Adjust the movements as follows:
- drawing the heels close to the perineum, inhalation 3 seconds;
- maintain the pose, hold the breath, for 3 seconds and
- stretch the legs to the original position, exhalation, 2 seconds.

Mindfulness-Living in the Now and Here
Everyone who joins Yoga thinks that yoga will make their body flexible, increase their muscle strength, and tone their body.
Yoga is not only about the body but also about balance, focus, awareness, experiencing peace of mind, and increasing inner strength.
Yoga is a science, a science of not only physical but spiritual well-being.
Yoga takes you into the present moment. The only place where life exists.
Nobody is living in the present moment all the time.
But most of the time either we are worried about the future or thinking about the past and forget to be in the moment.
There is a quote by Buddha
Do not dwell in the past Do not dream of the future Concentrate your mind on the present moment
What is meant by being engrossed in the moment?
It means, if I am eating food, I enjoy the whole process of eating.
My entire attention and focus and also my entire gratitude are merged in the process of eating.
I am not doing it mechanically. Also, a short prayer goes out into the universe for all those hungry.
Being mindful and being in the moment doesn’t require fancy training:
Whatever we do, we should focus on doing that thing. Pay attention to every aspect of what we are doing.
Observe and notice jumping thoughts in the mind and bring your mind back to the task.
When we are mindful we become more productive, enjoy friends and family more and enjoy life to the fullest.

What is Yoga
योगश्चित्तवृत्तिनिरोधः (yogaś citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ) – Yoga Sutra 1.2 of Patanjali Yoga
Sutras
Yoga is the inhibition (nirodhaḥ) of the modifications (vṛttis) of the mind (citta)
SWAMI VIVEKANANDA translates the sutra as “Yoga is restraining the mind-stuff (Citta) from taking various forms (Vrittis).
According to Baba Hari Dass, “Yoga (union) implies duality (as in joining of two things); the result of yoga is the non-dual state”, and “as the union of the lower self and higher Self.
The non-dual state is characterized by the absence of individuality; it can be described as eternal peace, pure love, Self-realization, or liberation.”
The word “YOGA” literally, it means “union.” Union means it brings you to the ultimate reality.
Yoga is a group of physical, mental and spiritual practices. Yoga in Indian traditions, however, is more than physical exercise; it has a meditative and spiritual core.
The origins of yoga have been speculated to date back to pre- Vedic times most likely developed around the sixth and fifth centuries BC.
The ultimate goal of Yoga is MOKSHA (liberation) by controlling the body and the mind.
Classical Yoga
Yoga is considered as a philosophical school in Hinduism. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is considered as the foundational scripture of classical yoga. Patanjali was an avatar of the divine serpent Shesha.
The book Yoga Sutras of Patanjali has 196 verse’ and is divided into four Chapters or Pada:
1. Samadhi Pada
2. Sadhana Pada
3. Vibhuti Pada
4. Kaivalya Pada
Patanjali Yoga
Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras are regarded as the first compilation of the formal yoga philosophy.
The verses of Yoga Sutras are short and brief. Many Indian scholars studied them and published their commentaries, such as the Vyasa Bhashya.
Ashtanga Yoga
The Ashtanga Yoga, the eight limbs are being practiced to attain samadhi, as described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

Do You Think GOD Needs Coconut to be Broken to be Kept Happy?
PHILOSOPHY OF BREAKING THE COCONUT BEFORE ENTERING THE TEMPLE!
The reason for breaking a coconut is simple.
Observe the coconut.
It looks like a head and a face.
A round strong head and below that two eyes and a mouth.
A long time ago, Hindus observed that they weren’t able to provide a living sacrifice to their Gods due to the pain and negativity involved with it.
It was then decided to use the coconut fruit as its replacement which made an excellent alternative due to the presence of a face upon it and also because the milk and the white kernel are not polluted due to the hard outer shell.
Breaking a coconut in front of God is trying to tell “This is my head and here I have broken it as a surrender and respect to you.”
Life is nothing but thoughts generated from the brain – happiness, unhappiness, likes, dislikes, anger, fear greediness, etc. Breaking a coconut means… I have broken my head …. which means no more mind of my own, no more thoughts….no more ego…. thus total surrender.
Breaking the coconut symbolizes the breaking of ego – the biggest thing coming in way of personal and spiritual development. It is a symbolic act of submitting oneself completely to the Almighty.
