Exciting news! Recall that our maple syrup got 1st place in the Cornish Fair this past summer…that qualified us to enter the state competition and we got 5th place! NH syrup is considered the highest quality in the world and this was the best of the best competition…or the Top Gun of maple syrup!! Farming in the woods requires sustainable management! We are clearing a few blighted beech trees to give the bees more sunlight and the sugar maples more space. We will burn the beech wood in our wood fired evaporator during sugaring season next winter!

The apiary sounds like a whirring engine these days! Bees control temperature and moisture in the hive by flapping their wings. This also helps to dry nectar and turn it into honey. All that noise is coming from inside the hives!
