Earth pigment explorations - A workshop ✨

This workshop will explore the beautiful realm of Earth pigments. Earth pigments come from Minerals, clays and oxides that can be found all over the world.

This experience explores how to prepare fabric to create a bond between the earth pigments and the fabric, how to prepare the pigment, and how to paint with it, (using several different brushes and techniques.) You will learn the necessary steps to complete the finishing and curing process. We provide further instructions for your at home use.

We will be painting on a cotton market bag and an organic cotton bandana that can be turned into a wall hanging, altar cloth or an accessory to wear.

We are thrilled to be opening up our home / studio space / gallery for this experience. Come hang and create with us!

Hello spring and hello spring underwear club!!✨🌱

Moon over Water and I have teamed up once again to bring you some special new underwear sets inspired by the season.

These tops and un**es will be created and dyed just for you! We will ship them out when they are all ready mid-late April. ✨

The theme this time around is “A Gentle Emergence”.🌺

“Imagine the rumbling of potential change beneath our discomfort.

The kind of necessary discomfort that rides shotgun with change.

The kind that stares us down ( even with our best efforts at hiding) asking for our attention.

Like just before we morph into a new state of becoming.

The kind of discomfort that nudges us to shake - shimmy, slither, out of where we’ve been.

What if that discomfort is meant for us?

And what if we look straight back and listen in?

What if we find the right dance of effort and surrender?

We push & pull, and then, we float and rest.

When we are ready, what if, we don’t bust through our safe container like wildfire? What if we wiggle gently? A little at a time, one layer and then the next, one wave at a time. Bolstered by breath and courage, with our pockets full of hope.

To walk with time as an ally.

To invite change to move with us.

To hold steady with the same kind of energy as a crocus, firm in determination, feeling our way into the change of environment, attuned, sensitive & alert to our own time for blooming.

May this spring bring a gentle emergence, one that yawns and stretches, meanders and flows, an emergence that is malleable, like the unfurling of fresh wet wings.

May we be gentle with our becoming, our letting go, our trying on and taking off of new ways of being.

There can be great liberation in the letting go, the flowers & trees do it every season and always grow / bloom again.

“Conversations with Spring”

A series that tells the story of the first wild natural colours to bloom after the long contraction of Winter.

Sustainably harvested first blooms of Spring turn into natural living Ink. The colour players of this piece have been created by wild violets, deep pink peonies & purple tulips.
Elderberry & wild grape ink harvested from the previous autumn add a seasonal synergy to the conversation.

These are fine art prints created from original works. Living ink pigment has the tendency to be fugitive, the pigment fades with time. With these fine art prints you get the original colour of the initial work without any colour fading that comes with time and UV exposure.

Prints are printed on 308 GSM cotton fine-art photo rag with eco friendly water based non toxic inks.

I’ve never thought of myself as someone who is shy, yet there is something about releasing something so personal into the world that certainly makes your knees shake a little, and your heart skip a rhythm or 2.

The naked truth of creativity & living, of living creatively, it’s a wee bit vulnerable isn’t it?

The practice of the writer or the artist, or any kind of maker/ creative, is to just create, to not get snagged in comparison or critical magnifications. It is to make & let go, & keep making & letting go, to carry that rhythm into the everyday.

Like all things beautiful are meant be shared, so too are these creations.

So, here it goes

“Living ink series - Conversations with Spring”

I have created a small collection of fine art prints of my botanical ink paintings. I wanted to find a way to preserve the impact and vibrancy of the ink as it is initially created. In my experiments, I found that some of the inks fade with time and UV exposure, so creating prints of the originals feels like the perfect way to share them.

The prints are printed on 308 GSM cotton fine-art photo rag with eco friendly water based non toxic inks

I have several dimension choices available, I think they are all paired beautifully with white & any type of wooden frames. They stand pretty solid on their own, and are happiest when clustered together as an arrangement.

Second slide is a print (sized up) in a setting for you to get a feel and to add some context to how they might work in your own personal sacred space.

We have been in a state of rearrangement, you know how that goes, you do your best to slither through the uncomfortable parts that accompany change, until you find yourself in the wide open field of new possibilities.

We are in the field.

As a way to hold our focus on creating and making sustainably we have chosen to change the way we offer our art online.

Instead of the online shop having random items for sale, we are choosing to release small batch creations as pre orders. You will be able to choose your size in the design/colour flow we are offering.

This allows us to move with the changing tides of our supply chain, honour the time it takes to hand make each garment, and ensures a high level of intent & quality.

We have been creating new colour blends, & patterns in both our fibre reactive dye designs ( Jay ) & our natural dye creations ( Wendy) . We think offering this way will be really great & will allow us the time needed to hone our creative skills to continue to offer you new and exciting things.

We are feeling really hopeful about seeing you in person at the markets / music festivals we will be attending this summer season. These are the venues we really love, we love to see you, to interact, to chit chat & connect in real time.

it was an utterly glorious weekend.

We immersed ourself in the magic of land & nature, natural dyes & creativity, and a much needed dose of community.

It was an incredible experience.

We’ve got 2 dates to bring it to you again!

Each month offers up unique local & natural materials to forage and dye with.

Everything about the Northern Edge Algonquin] is slow & circular, mindful and intentional. It is the most beautiful container for this kind of making, experimenting, unplugging, creating & connecting.
