Throwback Thursday (is that still a thing?). Came across this pic of Much Younger Me. I wish I still had those awesome glasses.
LAST Wednesdayās walk with Dad, posted here to remind me that an Ohio winter does have SOME blue sky days. ļæ¼
Investigative journalism at its best.
Huge congrats to my talented friend Mary Kubica! She's as lovely a human as she is a talented writer (and she fosters kittens!!!). This new one sounds like just the think to brighten this cold, rainy, dreary day.
Here's the scoop:
Jake Hayes is missing. This much is certain. At first, his wife, Nina, thinks he is blowing off steam at a friendās house after their heated fight the night before. But then a day goes by. Two days. Five. And Jake is still nowhere to be found.
Lily Scott, Ninaās friend and coworker, thinks she may have been the last to see Jake before he went missing. After Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, the two decide that nobody can find out what happened leading up to Jakeās disappearance, especially not Nina. But Nina is out there looking for her husband, and she wonāt stop until the truth is discovered.
Queen of suspense Mary Kubica delivers a high-octane, edge-of-your-seat thriller filled with delicious lies and shocking betrayals, and shows how even the deepest secrets will always find a way to the surface.

And check out these awesome blurbs:
āMary Kubicaās Just the Nicest Couple is a masterfully written thriller about deception where we least expect it and the danger of a lie tumbling out of control. Taut and incredibly suspenseful, every moment is perfectly crafted to keep us wanting more. An engrossing, spine-tingling read!ā
~ Ashley Audrain, New York Times bestselling author of The Push
āJust the Nicest Couple is Mary Kubica at her twisty, mysterious best. Every character brims with secrets. Every page holds a surprise. Itās entirely unputdownable and everything a reader is looking for in their next read.ā
~ Sally Hepworth, New York Times bestselling author of The Younger Wife
Iād watch the hell out of that!

Whatcha doing Saturday morning? And the Saturday after that? And the one after that? If you've got a couple hours to spare for three mornings, why not treat yourself to my LEAP & THE NET WILL APPEAR workshop? This is not a writing class, but a "life class" for everyone interested in changing or improving any aspect of their life. Change can feel really scary at times, but rest assured most real and lasting change begins with "leaps" that are really small, doable steps. This is the only time this class will be offered in 2024. Get all the details (time, location, full description, registration) here: https://forms.gle/QV9NJc1z4zZpmopr9 And please pass it on to anyone you think might need a nudge to brave a different path. Thanks!
Wait. HOW is tomorrow the start of a new semester already?!?!
I adore this one!!! An oldie, but goody, that never fails to delight me.
Sweet Annie watching the snow. I love love love watching snow fallā it is hypnotizing like watching a fire in a fireplace, or water moving. What are some of your favorite winter things? Smells, tastes, sounds, sights, sensations? What about the season brings you joy?
YES!
UPDATE: CLASS IS NOW FULL. :-)
REGISTRATION IS STILL OPEN for the last TWO SPOTS in the 2024 WRITER'S 12-STEP PROGRAM, taught through Word's Worth Writing Connections.
"I had been dithering about with a writing project for several years, and this class has given me concrete steps and the motivation to complete a draft. Katrina deeply understands not just the writing process but how writers work in the real world. She addresses time constraints and motivation issues and supplies prompts that encourage the muse to show up. She also creates a collegial atmosphere that encourages writers to support one another. The class has been invaluable!"--Anne Malone, past participant.
The first meeting is Tuesday, January 9 from 6:30-8:30 ET on Zoom. This class meets online once a month for a year with the goal to complete a novel draft. In between the monthly meetings you get community, guidance, accountability, and encouragement through a private online group. This will be our SEVENTH (!) year/group. Get a full description and registration at the Word's Worth site: https://www.wordsworthdayton.com/classes Please share if you know writers who may be interested. Much gratitude!
Tired of yours? My three-week online LEAP & THE NET WILL APPEAR workshop is all about creating positive change so that you're living the life you want and love. It's early on Saturday mornings--probably before you're committed to anything else. Is it time to commit to yourself? This is NOT about making New Year's "resolutions" or beating yourself up with a million things you think you "should" change. This IS about clarity and focus. Begins Saturday, January 13th, 9-11 AM EST. Get the scoop in this link: https://forms.gle/QV9NJc1z4zZpmopr9 PLEASE SHARE with anyone you think needs a nudge braving a different path. Thanks!
Ahhhā¦ long overdue reunion with writing women. ššø
Yesterday, I was thrilled and honored to start the day with some Butler Tech English teachers! I shared information on how to get published (discussing differences between traditional, self, and hybrid publishing), caring about the craft, supporting the writing process, query letters, finding an agent, encouraging resilience, publisher expectations and publishing industry norms. They had excellent, insightful questions and we had a lively conservation. They embodied what I love most about teachers (and about being a teacher myself)ā that commitment to lifelong learning, supporting student interests, and adding constantly to our toolboxes! The whole morning was energizing and inspiring for me. As a bonus, I got a ton of cool swag, including this awesome āGood Troubleā T-shirt (inspired by the amazing John Lewis. This phrase is the schoolās motto to be the change in the world). When I commented that my dad would love the shirt, because he loves John Lewis, they gave me one for him as well! Thanks for all you do, ! Thanks for making this happen,
Well, this made me laugh.
Thanks for sending it my way.
Oh, you know, the usual. What did YOU do for New Yearās Eve? Hereās to more silliness and pee-your-pants laughter.
STARTS IN ONE WEEK! Only THREE spots remain in the 2024 WRITER'S 12-STEP PROGRAM I teach for Word's Worth Writing Connections. The class meets once a month on Zoom for a year with the goal to finish a novel draft. In between the monthly meetings you get community, guidance, accountability, and encouragement through a private online group. Get full description and registration at https://www.wordsworthdayton.com/classes (and in first comment). Here's what past participant Mary Jo White had to say about the experience: "In the fall of 2017, I had a thirty-plus page unfinished short story that had spent a year and a half sitting in a folder on my computer because I didn't know what to do with it. I suspected it wanted to be a novel but had no idea how to go about making that wish come true. This writer was lost until Katrina Kittle provided the GPS that guided me to my destination a year later: the finished draft of my first novel." And I'm pleased as punch to report that White's novel, AN INVITATION TO THE PARTY was published in 2023 (and is fabulous)!!! Woo hoo and congrats! She did the hard work to bring it to fruition but it all began in class. Hope to see you on my screen!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I feel grateful for a life full of interesting, brilliant, funny, and generous people (and animals). Iām sometimes stunned by how fortunate I am. You inspire me, people I know. When I think of you/look at you/see the good you do/view the art (or science or *&^%ing amazing food) you make, when I see your resilience and compassion, I want to be better. Give more. Worry and complain less. Thank you for giving me the privilege of your company, love, and light. I wish you joy, GOOD HEALTH, snorting laughter, good new adventures, much love, less drama and more excitement, clarity, and happiness in 2024.
Happy New Year!!!
