One of the things that really holds us back is that hating our body is tolerable.
It might take up a bunch of time and energy, but it’s tolerable. It’s not ruining our life - we can still pay the bills, see our friends and go about our business.
BUT, when we tolerate it we stay stuck and then 20 years later we’re still dealing with the same sh*t. I want f**king better for us!
You don’t need to tolerate that and you don’t realize how much of a burden it is until it’s gone. You can feel free and at peace in your body.
And you don’t need to struggle alone.
You, On Fire is open for enrolment until Friday. Pop a 🔥 below and I’ll send you the details.

"THERE IS SCIENCE BEHIND JIGGLING YOUR BODY..." Have you ever felt ashamed of the parts of your body that jiggle? We’re conditioned to think that rolls and body parts that jiggle are bad. The diet and beauty industries make massive amounts of money off this shame by selling solutions to “tighten” and “tone” our bodies. It’s no wonder so many of us feel ashamed of our bellies or our arms or our legs…or any soft part of our body that’s naturally meant to wiggle and shake. @curveswithmoves is on the podcast this week talking about what her experiences were like growing up as a dancer, how she was able to use dance to embrace her body, the “science” behind jiggling our bodies, her advice to others that struggle with their belly and so much more. Get it wherever you listen to pods.
Introducing THE WELLNESS INFLUENCER 🥬 🥦🥑… episode 1: Dining Out Featuring @fierce.fatty and @summerinnanen Did you ever make tons of unnecessary modifications at a restaurant to comply with a ridiculous diet? What’s it like to not do that anymore? Obviously, if you have a medical reason to do that, then it’s valid. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 🤡This is a parody and not pointed at any particular individual (except maybe G Pow 🫠), rather we’re poking holes at the ridiculousness of wellness culture. Check out the IG version for captions… my apologies that they didn’t get carried over.
Meet Starlett... After Starlett had her daughter, she had gained a lot of weight and was having trouble accepting the changes. It was a new body and she says it felt like, “she was dropped into a foreign country where she didn’t know how to speak the language.” She says she was constantly told she needed to look a certain way and she felt like if she accepted this body, she would be rejected by society and be opening herself up to ridicule. I feel like we can all relate to this She asked herself, “do I want to stay on this cycle or do I want a real change?” Since working together, Starlett came to the realization that she is worthy and valuable just as she is - without any external validation. She respected that this was a journey and is still using the tools to be more compassionate and accepting of her whole self. 🔥One breakthrough moment was when she looked in the mirror and she says, “I looked at myself and said I’m worthy and valuable just as I am. The best part is that I believed it. I can feel the change inside of me and I genuinely believe it…It feels amazing” ⚡️She says, “I’m worthy of the same grace I give my daughter. Yes, my body has changed but my worth and value haven’t. I just needed to see that. Now, I can see me for me without all these other things that used to define me.” 🎧Listen to all of Starlett's story on episode 246 of Eat The Rules. 🔥 Want body image support like this? I remember when I first discovered body positivity and it seemed revolutionary. I loved seeing women celebrating their bodies and being OK with cellulite and fat rolls. But, then I started following and reading from fat activists and it opened my eyes to the political origins of this movement. Body positivity was the gateway for me to learning about fat liberation and activism. The more that I learn about fat libration, the more I realized that we are missing a huge opportunity to make cultural changes by keeping the focus centered around “loving ones body” vs speaking to the systemic changes needed to eradicate size discrimination. On this week’s episode of Eat The Rules, we’re talking about the difference between body positivity and fat liberation with Mental Health Counsellor, Ingrid Pipes. They’re talking about what they wish we’d see more of in the body positivity movement and how it’s been co-opted by thin and mid-size people. We also talk about how being neuro-divergent informed Ingrid’s relationship with her body and why “trauma healing” as a form of weight loss is “fake news.” Get it wherever you listen to pods.
Most of the people I work with struggle with mirrors when we start together - they either use the mirror to “check” their body size or they avoid them completely in an effort to avoid the emotions that might come up when they see themselves. Your body is worthy of unconditional acceptance and being hyper-vigilant with it or avoiding it completely, doesn’t help us cultivate this radical acceptance. Ideally, we want to get to a place where we can look in the mirror and think, “oh hey, there I am,” and go on with your day. Perhaps you like what you see or not, but either way it’s a fairly neutral reaction. We want to normalize how we look, while also unhooking our sense of self-worth from our appearance. This takes intention and practice and the first step is acknowledging that the negative thoughts you have about your body are not your fault and something that you've learned from our culture. If any of this is resonating and you mirror-check or avoid mirrors, then this week’s podcast is for you. I’m talking about why mirror-checking is a hidden substitute for the scale, whether you should take a break from mirrors and when it’s appropriate to use mirrors to help heal our body image. Listen wherever you get your pods.
"Mommy, chocolate is not healthy." I've done my best to teach my son that all foods fit and remove any kind of labels or moral implications from eating. However, he's exposed to many other influences now... in daycare, the media, other people in his life, etc. And apparently, he's starting to internalize them. I wanted to share how I responded when he said this to me the other day. My response is age-appropriate (he just turned 4). Of course, once he gets older I can begin to speak to the fact that health is extremely nuanced, influenced more by the social determinants of health, not entirely within our control and not something that defines our worth. For now, the message I want to get across is that all foods can be healthy for us. I'm not the expert in this realm. Definitely check out the book "How to Raise an Intuitive Eater" by @ameeistalking and @intuitiveeatingrd for more on this if you're a parent or caregiver. Some of my fav accounts to follow are teaching kids to be intuitive eaters are @v_solesmith @kids.eat.in.colour @feeding.littles @jaybaum.rd
What if I NEED to diet for my health? Things like diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea are all things that we've been told can only be avoided by not being fat and treated primarily by being on a diet. But, health is so much more nuanced than that. That being said, what if you NEED to lose weight for health or mobility reasons? Vinny Welsby @fierce.fatty and I answer that question today in our last Death to Diets episode and also share the 2 reasons why you may choose to go on a diet or intentionally lose weight. 🎙Look for Eat The Rules episode #227 wherever you listen to podcasts. #BeyondBeauty #NourishToFlourish #NoFoodRules #DitchTheDiet #FoodFreedom #NonDietApproach #HAES #HealthAtEverySize #IntuitiveEating #AntiDietCulture #BodyAcceptance #BodyLiberation #NormalizeNormalBodies #EmotionalEating #BingeEatingRecovery #AllBodiesAreGoodBodies #FatPositive #FatAcceptance #RiotsNotDiets #FatLiberation #BodyNeutrality #FatAndFree #IntutiveEatingJourney #DietsDontWork
Let's talk about Friends... This was a show that definitely had an influence on my body image and the way I viewed bodies. This show came about in the 90's when most actresses were competing to be the thinnest and fatphobic rhetoric was still a go-to punchline. Also, why were Rachel and Monica's nipples always so rock hard? Was that their choice? 📺Did this show mess up your body image? What TV shows or movies had a big influence on you? In this week’s episode of Eat The Rules, Vinny Welsby of @fierce.fatty and I are talking about the shows and movies that did a number on our self-esteem. We talk about America's Next Top Model, The Biggest Loser, Friends, Bridget Jones and more and how they have a LOT to answer to when it comes to body image! Have things got better recently or is it the same old BS? We break this down and we also share your feedback on the TV shows and movies that had an impact on the way you felt about your body. 🎙Look for Eat The Rules episode #226 wherever you listen to podcasts. #BeyondBeauty #NourishToFlourish #NoFoodRules #DitchTheDiet #FoodFreedom #NonDietApproach #HAES #HealthAtEverySize #IntuitiveEating #AntiDietCulture #BodyAcceptance #BodyLiberation #NormalizeNormalBodies #EmotionalEating #BingeEatingRecovery #AllBodiesAreGoodBodies #FatPositive #FatAcceptance #RiotsNotDiets #FatLiberation #BodyNeutrality #FatAndFree #IntutiveEatingJourney #DietsDontWork
“OMG, there is a chemical in my food…and I can’t pronounce the name of it, never mind spell it!!! AND I am definitely addicted to TOXIC sugar! I must be, I can’t stop eating it!” 🧇🍔🥨🥯🌮🍦🥮 I feel like many of us felt this way at one point in time and perhaps you even feel this way now. ❌Diet culture has made us think that anything that is processed is going to kill us and that the evil food industry is out to make us all addicted to their foods. We are dissecting this and taking a look at the new Jonathan Van Ness show called Getting Curious where they answered the question “Why Do I Love Snacks So Much?” 🍩Instead of a delighted foray into the wonderful world of snacks, this episode of Getting Curious took a dark turn into debunked science from 1996, fatphobia, and food shaming. In this week’s episode of Eat The Rules, Vinny Welsby of @fierce.fatty and I break down the BS around it and other “toxic” food myths in another broadcast of the Death to Diets mini-series. 🎙Look for Eat The Rules episode #225 wherever you listen to podcasts. #BeyondBeauty #NourishToFlourish #NoFoodRules #DitchTheDiet #FoodFreedom #NonDietApproach #HAES #HealthAtEverySize #IntuitiveEating #AntiDietCulture #BodyAcceptance #BodyLiberation #NormalizeNormalBodies #EmotionalEating #BingeEatingRecovery #AllBodiesAreGoodBodies #FatPositive #FatAcceptance #RiotsNotDiets #FatLiberation #BodyNeutrality #FatAndFree #IntutiveEatingJourney #DietsDontWork
What do you think of "body positive" before and after pictures? We are breaking down all of our thoughts on before and after pictures in the latest episode of Eat The Rules, including the “body positive” before and after pics that influencers post…are they helpful, harmful or is there more nuance to it? This is a broadcast of the Death to Diets series that @fierce.fatty and I did together We also share your feedback on both kinds of before and after pics and whether you find them inspiring or not. 🎙Look for Eat The Rules episode #224 wherever you listen to podcasts. #BeyondBeauty #NourishToFlourish #NoFoodRules #DitchTheDiet #FoodFreedom #NonDietApproach #HAES #HealthAtEverySize #IntuitiveEating #AntiDietCulture #BodyAcceptance #BodyLiberation #NormalizeNormalBodies #EmotionalEating #BingeEatingRecovery #AllBodiesAreGoodBodies #FatPositive #FatAcceptance #RiotsNotDiets #FatLiberation #BodyNeutrality #FatAndFree #IntutiveEatingJourney #DietsDontWork
