Caregiver Champion

We provide caregivers, the chronically disabled, seniors, and their families professional assistance navigating the bureaucratic healthcare maze.

Caregivers, the chronically disabled, seniors, and their families often need professional assistance to sort through complex changes and problems that accompany disability or the aging process. When a healthcare crisis occurs, the caregivers, the chronically disabled, seniors, and their families are faced with decisions they are unprepared to make. Please follow our group for more valuable information on how to disrupt your aging. If you would like to share your tips and tricks on how you are disrupting your aging, let us know!

We are debuting the Caregiver Champion Disrupt Your Aging series which will showcase seniors who are disrupting their aging. We start today with a Pittsburgher who talks about the importance of having a purpose.

_____

In 2024, 85-year-old Squirrel Hill resident, Diane, is living the phrase “disrupt your aging.”

Her disruption started right before the pandemic when Diane found her purpose by writing and publishing a poetry book entitled, Crazy Quilt of Loss and Love.

“It told the story of having to divorce after a 30-year marriage and what that loss was like,” Diane says. “Many of the poems focus on finding a new identity and developing a satisfying life.

“I would be in very bad shape if I didn't feel that I had a purpose,” Diane continued. “I think there's nothing worse than feeling invisible and useless.

“I think seniors have to have their OWN purpose, for example, find volunteer work. It could be stuffing envelopes at their church or synagogue or mosque. People have to have a reason to get up every morning.“

You can find Diane’s book, Crazy Quilt of Loss and Love on Amazon.

You can find Jo Ann Jenkins, CEO of AARP’s book, Disrupt Aging: A Bold New Path to Living Your Best Life at Every Age through the Carnegie Library system. It is in eBook, audio, or paper formats.
