This is how I made cooking less overwhelming.
I decided last month that I wanted to become at making meals. My sister in law sparked this for me as she is such an excellent chef and was vising for a long weekend.
Instead of taking classes or trying to make something new every night, I decided to pick one new recipe every other week to create from scratch.
This is doable, something I can be consistent with, and for the first time in forever FUN.
A little pro tip being a lifelong learner is a key way to improve your quality of life as well as lifespan.

This ONE thing has been really helpful in the 'Well Zone' consulting work we do.
Implementing physical reminders (like tactile cues for people learning new movement patterns) been a really helpful way to guide people in performing behaviors that are good for them, that they may not have thought about themselves.
This is a sign up in our home right as you walk in the door. My cell phone goes here when I walk in the door, and if I need to use it, I use it in this location. My cell phone is only allowed in this area as well as on my desk.
This way it is not going with me everywhere which inevitably makes me check it more, which breaks up my 'gap time' my moments of pause, and ability to be in the present.
I am 80% compliant at this point and working to get to 99% in the next two months:).
If you want to be less tied to your phone, set boundaries and stick to them. Make a sign for yourself and make sure you see it and take action.

PS This was a picture taken after a workout with kotler, Chip Hopper and I on one of the mornings of the 'Flow and Longevity' event in Salt Lake City. It was my favorite picture of the event, and thankful I got to teach about physical longevity in this 2 day event. Special group.
... we will be incorporating the recovery tools you taught in all our future conferences. "
When you receive a hand written letter of gratitude from the home of the Commandant of the Marine Corps, you write back.
My talk with the Commandants offsite training was a hit, and to get a hand written letter was extra special. It is something physical that took time to write. Emails, texts, audio messages are too easy.
I am a huge fan of this kind of communication and take the time after every speaking opportunity to write a letter or gratitude to the meeting planner or individuals who made the event happen.
A physical letter of gratitude, love, acknowledgement goes a long way, believe me.
Try it! Next time you want to express gratitude towards someone, write a hand written letter, versus sending an easy text or email.

Here is me after training some stairs for my mountain pass race, Imogene. I am racing in honor of Jensen- the lovely young woman who passed recently who was the daughter of friends Jeff and Robin Hugh's.
I ran these steps solo to let off some steam as I was finally feeling better after a week of battling an infection in my foot. I had a cut that turned into something way more after playing beach volleyball, SUPing, running in the mud, rocks...the usual living in the mountains:).
Thankfully it is better and back to running.
Regardless, I won't stop, and am committed to running this race in honor of Jensen Hughs, and making the journey to prepare for it the best part.

This hurts my head and heart.
A few things come up...(MY PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT)
#1. The fact that I see this behavior everywhere. Traveling or not...it is on the playgrounds, at school pick up, at the grocery store. The distraction is real. The lack of being present is real.
#2. The mom represents many adults who are addicted to their phones so much so when they have another person right there with them that they love or care about, they cannot set their phone down. Guess what...I have been one of them. It is common now for families to sitting together at night yet on their phones.
This mother I was speaking of may be simply having a bad day and needing to disconnect for a few moments. I was sitting next to her on a 2 hour flight and she was on it at 3/4 of the time. I do not know the mothers whole story, yet what I do know is that I see the phone addiction EVERYWHERE. People are like zombies when on their phones particularly social media. And I know you know it is a problem too.
#3. The little girl (like all kids who see their parents addicted) is learning the behavior from her mom, and unless her mom or any parent incorporates boundaries, this little girl will be doing the exact same thing when she gets her own phone.
#4. Bottom line: we need boundaries with our devices. A lot of us are MISSING life right in front of us because of the tech addiction. Missing precious moments.
If you think this is harsh or otherwise, perhaps its time to look in the mirror on your own boundaries.
Put your phone down, go learn, create, be bored, and or get outside.

PS I am truly thankful the majority of what I do for a living does not revolve around needing social media yet I will keep sharing insights in hope to help as many people as possible.
Excited to present at the Association of University Research Parks International Conference. This is an outstanding group doing very impact work.
I saw this sign at the Salt Lake City Airport last week...right before I did walk about 2 miles to my ride which was my lovely sister in law Tanya.
Signs like this go a long way.... no pun intended.
Our current medical system (most not all) is reactive, not proactive. Organizations are the same that think employee assistance programs are the answer to their peoples mental and physical struggles.
People need to know WHAT preventative health looks like. Then of course take action.
Our company is now getting to work on large engineering and architectural projects help make the locations they are planning and building healthier. Its so exciting!! This is part of our 'Well Zone,' initiative. So when I see signs like this that are hard to miss I get excited for humanity.
Now...we just need humanity to do it.
The goal is to die young when you are old (or something like that). I plan on it with what I CAN control about my life.
Having FUN is an important part of life...and I think some of you have lost the ability to have fun as you let your lives run you over.
The beauty is this can change. You can change...no matter your age.
Steven Kotler and I got into a axe and throwing match and just had FUN. Missed a lot, yet hit the targe some too.
My prescription for you today is this: take 10 minutes (you would normally scroll and waste precious time) and do something that is FUN for you.

MY HEALTH & WELLBEING DISCLOSURE: I am only spending 10 minutes a day, 4 days a week on social platforms which includes engaging intentionally with people. I am doing this to protect and strengthen my mind, body, spirit as well as well as staying present to what matters most. My work and life have expanded because of boundaries like this. Be the change you want to see in yourself and with your kids.
Tired of the listening to speakers who only talk about themselves...and do not actually HELP their audience or you.
I can help.
I am a Marine Corps veteran turned Doctor of Physical Therapist who does not practice clinical PT yet who speaks on leadership and longevity- aka health span and lifespan. How healthy you are impacts how you live your life, and how you care for your people.
According to the Work Health Institute, 70% of your employees mental health is impacted by how you lead them. That is significant.
My talks are chalked full of helpful tools that people can take away immediately and apply to their life.
Private message me or book a call here: https://shorturl.at/0BiLO if you are looking for a speaker who actually can help your leaders and people.
I just spent 2 full days in a Flow for Longevity workshop with Steven Kotler, the man behind flow research as well as badass author in the flow, aging, and performance space.
It was outstanding an added so many meaningful layers to longevity as well as how we experience life as we age.
Bottom line up front, aging does not need to suck. It is very much a cognitive game just as much as physically. And while you may think that you are too old to do things like learn, or do some badass physical feat etc...you are wrong. The use it or lose it moto is much more accurate than the 'you cannot teach an old dog new tricks.'
Stop hating the aging process, and celebrate the creativity, experience, and wisdom you have as well as those around you.

My 4 year old son asked me, "Mommy can I take a plane to go visit Grandmom Mary Ann in Heaven?"
Me- " Um, gosh...(cough, cough), no buddy, taking an airplane to heaven is not the best way to get to Grandmom Mary Ann."
My son- " Ok how do I get there?"
Me - " Outside of dying a good person, you can close your eyes, put your hands over your heart and talk to her. Tell her hello, then listen....."
My son- closes his eyes, and says..."hello Grandmom Mary Ann. I love you."
No post really can do this moment justice, yet I hope it brings a smile to your face and opens you up to connecting with your loved ones who are no longer here, and who are still here and probably right in front of you.

“Got enough balls here… and what is in this black compartment??”- TSA man when looking through my bag.
On the road with my mobility balls and protein and vital collagens that could look like an illicit drug (yet it’s not😁) stored in a suspicious container.
This made me smile and make friends with people around me.

No post or even words will do this justice yet am going to share something…
this beautiful young lady, Jensen was in an accident and passed away not too long ago.
She was the daughter of our dear friend retired OC Fire Fighter and his wife Robin.
While I never knew Jensen and my heart breaks for my friend, I am going to offer up my training and Imogene race Sept 7th in Ouray/ Telluride for Jeff, his family and Jensen.
My late father would do this for those who have passed and since Jeff (and his family) loves to train and is intentional about keeping Jensen alive through his actions and love…I can do this, and then some.
I hope this post at the very least reminds you how precious life is and it absolutely does not do justice the feelings, heart break… all of the above that comes up.
Jensen, we will not forget you young lady!!!

Happy 4th Birthday to our helpful (ish), sweet n salty, rambunctious, energetic little boy- Aksel Charles Larson.
His expressions are priceless😘.
Aksel requested a monster cake AND had a fun intimate monster truck themed party with his little buddies and family.
Favorite gift (so far) was a plastic chain saw from his bestie KJ.

From adventuring in the dinosaur diamond to secret service, this month has been pretty epic.
We spent half of June traveling with the boys, camping, and enjoying the Cretaceous history of our region. From Moab to Ouray was super fun… dirty… sweaty, full of s’mores, and so much bonding.
The other half has been some fun camps and me getting to speak to groups of people I adored, who were super authentic, and very high profile out in Washington DC.
Check out some of our pics and hope you that after you see this you get outside, stop scrolling, and enjoy the people and world in front of you.

Listen in tomorrow as to all the reasons WHY and HOW sleep can impact your body composition.
Can you shut down work (plus your phone) and fully engage with your loved ones when home or on vacation?
I’ll admit… this used to be hard for me. Like really hard!
Not being able to shut down work led me to experience burn out, overreacting to simple things, not feeling clear headed or truly recovered.
This is WHY the practice’s of mindfulness and meditation is a staple in my life. I badly needed to shut down work, yet couldn’t. And there was no magic pill to help me do this rather these life giving practices.
The consistency with these practices actually create long term change in your brain. It can literally change your brain chemistry.
I hope this message gives you a reason to take a moment in stillness and quiet to just breath and let yourself ‘come down’ from your day so you can be in the precious present with your loved ones.

Brain Derived Neuropeptide Factor aka BDNF, a protein that aids in neuronal growth (neuroplasticity) will increase by 32% when you exercise.
I was recently helping our Director of Adaptive Training Megan Graff, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, CSCS present at American College of Sports Medicine and listened to some Medical Doctors from Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School present on ‘exercise and the brain.’
What was shared was this:
-BDNF support neurons, new growth and differentiation aka plasticity.
- BDNF is a crucial link between movement, thought, and emotions.
- A study in 2013 found that 20-40 minutes of aerobic exercise increased BDNF by 32%.
Exercise is medicine for the BRAIN and BODY.

Never forgetting those who have fought and paid the ultimate price for our freedom was a family affair this weekend.
I feel sharing with our boys WHY this day exists is important for how they grow up.
Magnus and I went around the flags flown at a local park reading the names of the men and women who served and have passed. This was a beautiful memory indeed.
