Science, Not S*x! Sharing my thoughts on arousal - as a construct, a box of behaviors we might label with words like Overaroused, High Arousal, or Overstimulated.

You guys, it's very hard for me to listen to my own voice. I'm sharing anyway because the possible conversations we can all have are just so FUN.

Four shelter pups: Alaska, Poppy, Leona, and Pippy.

Still photos present a behavioral snap shot of a moment in time. So, let's practice! In this moment, what behaviors do you observe in these pups? What similarities do you observe? What differences?

And, for fun, pick your puppy!

Ready to relax into a long weekend with some happy hour plans for Friday night?

Hannah Branigan and I are hosting a Virtual Happy Hour during which we'll chat about CERs, behavior, and with you!

Sign up here and you'll automatically receive the article we prepared just for you. https://wonderpupstraining.com/ball-feelings/

All that's left to do is bring your questions and your cocktails.

Remember that podcast episode (36) that started the whole things?

Lindsay and I had so much fun talking behavior over a glass of wine, that we decided to do it again... only longer and more in depth. And this time you can join us!

On Friday, May 25, we'll hold a virtual webinar/book club/meetup (still working on a name for it) and geek out over CERs, emotions, behavior, and whatever else comes up!

If you'd like to hang out with us, check out the link below. You can register, get your homework assignment to read, and then join us live to ask questions and participate in the conversation.

Four new shelter pups to observe this week, with four different responses to greeting a novel person. Watch each puppy closely!

Do the behaviors you observe cause you label some or all of them as “fearful?” Why or why not?

And, for fun, pick your puppy!

17/05/2018

Hi Friends! Want to join me and Hannah Branigan on Friday night, May 25 to chat about CERs? We're doing a live (virtual) workshop / happy hour and we'd love to have you with us!

Bring your own cocktail.

Pick your puppy!

Here we see a litter of four shelter pups demonstrating behaviors that could cause us label them as “fearful” or “stressed.” For simplicity, let’s use their collar colors to identify them: red, blue, orange, or purple.

Watch each pup to observe their individual response to greeting a novel person. What similarities do you observe? Do you see any differences in their behavior?

And, for fun, pick your puppy! Which babe appeals to you and why?

Jump on this now!

I've previewed the content in the Set It and Forget It workshop and it's excellent - smart, efficient, and effective practices to structure your training sessions.

It's a virtual workshop, you guys, not just another webinar.

And it's Hannah Branigan.

Don't miss out on this one! See you in there, friends.

Pick your puppy!

Here we have Buffy (pink nose) and Napoleon (black nose). Based on the behaviors you observe in these moments in time, would you assign them the label of stressed? Why or why not? And, for the fun part, which puppy would you pick?

Pick your puppy!

Meet Nellie, the white pup, and Rosie, the black pup, two new shelter pups. Here they are greeting a novel individual entering their kennel. What behaviors do you observe?

Two new shelter pups to consider this week. Lots of observable behavior in these two images, and there's no wrong answer; I want to hear from you!

This week, let's mix it up! Pick your kitten!

Just like dogs, observing the body language of cats can help us gain an understanding of their feelings and responses in a situation.

So, go ahead, let's play! Which kitten would you pick and why?

Beautifully expressed, Julie Hecht.

How can we make the world better for dogs? “The Dog is not set in stone," says Dog Spies by Julie Hecht. "In the 21st Century, we live off the Internet. With the click of a button, we can find a plethora of information — as well as misinformation — about dogs. For the love of a dog, to quote Dr. Patricia McConnell, I hope that people continually take a step back. Try and notice everyday assumptions and expectations about dogs, however small, and then consider holding on to them a little less tightly. Our beliefs about dogs needn't be set in stone because The Dog is not a stagnant, all-known being. Create space to question assumptions and bring in new and ever-evolving information, particularly from researchers, veterinarians, practitioners, and science communicators who are doing the same. This, I believe, has the potential to enhance individual dog well-being.”
