Had the best Saturday catching up with Pepper who I worked with back in 2019. Back then she was a single gal living with her dad in a hip downtown apartment. She’s been a dog sister & now a big sister to two human puppies in a house with a fire pit by the beach. I love when clients become friends. I’m so proud of Pepper .noyes &

The world lost a bright light this past weekend when Luna crossed the rainbow bridge. She had the most wonderful dedicated family, who taught her the best tricks, took her on long runs, and even gave her a big/little dog brother. These photos are of the first & the last time I saw her, showing off & then keeping a watchful eye over my lesson with her brother, Rocky. Luna was one of a kind…intense, silly, & sweet. It’s important to train your dogs, but make sure to play & laugh with them too. Our time together is far too short. 🌈 🖤🤍🖤 🌈

See Them, Tell Them - Malena DeMartini 09/11/2023

It's Animal Shelter Appreciation Week! Thank you to those dedicated workers and volunteers to do the hard work, the important work, the ften thankless work. We see you. We appreciate you.

See Them, Tell Them - Malena DeMartini I see you. The work that happens in shelters and rescue organizations is selfless. Caring for so many individual dogs, each with their own needs, is a labor of love, but it comes with heaps of stressors. Every bark takes its toll. I work with many shelters and rescues to support their efforts with d...

Our best boy crossed over yesterday at almost 17 years old. Our journey together started 16 years ago when I saw this “little brown dog” running in the street, then chased him into a chain link fence enclosure, and finally lured him out as he growled at me. It was love. He was complicated. He is responsible for the size of my heart & for every grey hair on my head. Porter was both fighting scars & bow ties, rule enforcer & adventurer.

In our time together, he ran the hills of San Francisco, around Central Park, The East River, the country upstate, Lake Merritt & Redwoods of Oakland, and the beaches of Venice, Santa Monica, California & Plymouth, Massachusetts. He road tripped across America 5 times. Most of his life, he had his sister, Cass, who was the perfect polar opposite & I hope they’ve been reunited & playing together without pain. Rob & I will take on their pain here. We are devastated, but we know how incredibly lucky we are that he chose us. 🐕 🌈 🌅

It’s been a year without Cassady & it still feels incorrect that she isn’t beside me as life journeys continue on somehow without her. I got this tattoo of her on my left shoulder so that she would always be by my heart. The flowers are pink coreopsis, which mean “always cheerful,” which she was & she always looked good in pink. Thank you to at for really capturing her looks and personality. It has helped so much to heal from a loss I’ll always have. I’ll treasure it forever. 🐾 🌈 🌸

I highly recommend a stay at whether it’s to visit the sanctuary or stay overnight on a cross country drive. The hotel is lovely & has every amenity for you & your pet. They even have dog beds that pull out for dogs who don’t feel like they need the King Bed.

For I wanted to share these texts to motivate those with reactive dogs, to rescues who are overwhelmed, & dog trainers who are feeling burnt out. It’s amazing what we can all accomplish with work, patience, & dedication. Celebrate every win. So proud ❤️

If you buy a muzzle that’s too big, you can still use it to help your dog acclimate. Just look at taking treats through her muzzle for the first time. Note that she is putting her face in the muzzle. We are not putting it on her. Always let your dogs set the pace of acclimation. Don’t rush it and keep it fun! muzzleupproject

To all my BOSS LADY TRAINERS:
We are in a world where women are raised to be people pleasers, where we are praised for putting others needs before our own. Our worthiness is defined by how others feel about us. Then we decided to become freakin dog trainers! It’s a profession where making dogs and their people happy is our goal and if we don't achieve that goal, it can feel like a professional and a personal failure. We burn out. Remember that your profession is part of who you are, but it's not all you are. So I wanted to tell you that you are worthy when you:
say, "no."
have a bad day.
raise your rates.
don’t "save" them
are disappointed
have a slow week
make a mistake
need a break.
take a day off
aren't getting the results you want.
are hanging out with friends.

Talk to yourself like you would talk to a client. Set yourself up for success. Work with triggers, but stay under threshold. Take time to decompress. Positive reinforcement works! Be kind to yourself. You are worthy. You matter. You are loved. Support women by praising them for doing what they need to do, not for putting everyone else's needs first.

& to my last day with I have so many videos of this little guy that I’ll get to posting soon. Lucas, Leo’s dad, purchased a 10 pack that included boot camp and private sessions & it was a blast working with them both. Together we achieved our goals and set Leo up for success long term too! Love this little guy so much!
