Before I started regularly practising Ashtanga, I was striving for advancement in my practice by always reaching for the next advanced shape. The next arm balance, the next inversion, etc. Through my Ashtanga practice, Iβve learned that even the most βbasicβ primary postures can feel new and exciting if one focuses on the details. Paying attention to drishti, bandhas and the breath can make any pose come alive.

I would like my life to be a statement of love and compassion, and where itβs not, that is where my work lies.

Because we all could use a little support sometimes. π
Many important conversations happening in the broader yoga community lately. Conversations that are necessary, progressive and long overdue, but at times delivered in ways that donβt necessarily honour compassion. One of the most amazing things about being a student of yoga is being part of a network of individuals all on the path towards a deeper sense of knowledge. If weβre going to move forward, itβs important that we communicate, learn from & lean on each other - and do so from a place of non-violence. Thatβs my two cents of the day. Happy practicing. π
Your body is sacred, look how it can move, look how it can breathe. Your body is a temple - hold your head high.

Japa is a meditation technique in which you repeat a mantra with or without the help of a string of mala beads. A mantra is repeated once for each of the 108 beads on the string. Itβs a great practice for antsy people like myself because of its soothing, tactile quality (keeps my hands busy!), and the fact that mantra repetition is a powerful way to focus my often anxious mind. Lately Iβve been working on exploring a new meditation technique which involves simply sitting with the eyes open and focusing on the out-breath, but I also like to return to japa on the days I need an extra boost to still my mind. Today I used βs mantra - βI am loving awarenessβ - to cultivate compassion & stillness. Have you tried japa mantra meditation? Did it work for you? Let me know in the comments below. ππΌπΏ
Iβve been introducing the ashtanga intermediate series into my practice little by little. Today while practicing it during Mysore, I felt such an outpour of emotions, it brought me to tears. Intermediate is an understatement - the series is such hard work, both mentally and physically. There is so much to achieve, so much to aim for. My body was tired after 6 days of practice in a row, and I felt like I was starting from zero. When I walked in to the studio to teach a class later that morning, I was greeted by so many kind souls, all facing their own challenges. The Sanskrit word βyogaβ can be translated as βto yokeβ or βto uniteβ. Although we yoga practitioners may all be at different parts of the journey, thereβs something that unites us all - weβre all just here to practice. π
Spent most of this past weekend in meditation training and was once again reminded of how effective the practice of mindfulness really is. How often do we truly let ourselves slow down and be fully present? Itβs hard to tame the monkey-mind (a product of the times) but with practice, we can begin to awaken to the now. After all, now is all there is. π

having a regular asana practice reveals so much about the self. through daily practice, you can become in tune with both your physical body and your subtle/energetic body. itβs interesting to observe how the practice fluctuates from day to day. on some days i feel strong and energized, but other days are such a struggle. on those hard days, i can feel myself getting frustrated. in those moments, the most important thing is to practice it anyway, but do it compassionately! the body is intelligent, listen to it and meet yourself where you are. nothing is more perfect than the present moment; embrace it & practice on. πΏβ¨ photo by πΈ
