What does a confident person look like? 🤔 On the Bigger Than Me Podcast, I shared confidence isn't just about having the skill—it's about using it effectively. The more you practice and master your craft, the more your confidence grows. 🌟 It’s about recognizing your strengths and honing them through consistent effort. Confidence is built on the belief in your abilities, shaped by hard work and persistence. So, let's keep pushing forward! 🚀 #Confidence #Mastery #SkillDevelopment #BelieveInYourself
To truly understand your staff, you need to start having conversations about who they are, not just what they do. 🗣️ While it may sound nerve-racking, focusing on emotions in the workplace is the key to knowing people beyond just their job duties. 🔑 Connecting with the heart of the people you lead is the key to your leadership success. ❤️ From a business perspective, understanding attitudes and behaviors is necessary since your people create your organization’s competitive advantage. When you start treating and caring for people as people and not just task completers, it’s amazing what they can accomplish. Great leaders stand out by their ability to genuinely relate to others. They build real connections with their team and bring out the best in them. 🤝 When leaders show empathy and support for their team’s struggles and stress, it makes people feel valued and cared for. 👩🏾🤝👨🏽 Remember, every team member is unique. Everyone has different stress levels and needs different kinds of support. 🙌 A great leader recognizes this and adapts accordingly. Leading with heart not only grabs attention but also connects people on a deeper level and propels everyone forward. 💕 #Leadership #Empathy #EmotionalIntelligence #TeamBuilding #EmployeeEngagement
When we interact with others, what we see is just the tip of the iceberg. 🏔 Beneath the surface lie our past experiences, emotions, beliefs, triggers, and more—these hidden elements shape how we behave. Our unique perspectives influence how we communicate, often overlooked but crucial in daily interactions. 💬 As a leader, are you asking your colleagues and staff about what lies beneath their actions and words? Understanding the 'WHY' behind their behaviors allows you to connect with them on a deeper level. 👥 ❤️ This understanding is crucial for effective communication, and it requires Emotional Intelligence (EI). Leaders who engage in these 'inner iceberg' conversations foster deeper connections and enhance relationships. 👬 💓
The term 'emotional intelligence' can seem complex, but it's simply about being smarter and stronger than your emotions. How do you achieve that? 🤔 As I explain in this video, becoming emotionally strong can be broken down into five straightforward steps, all starting with the letter "R". #EmotionalIntelligence #EmotionallyStrong
It frustrates me to all ends 😡 that Emotional Intelligence (EI) is brushed off as a 'touchy-feely' soft skill—when it's crucial for clear thinking and effective leadership. ✅ People are emotional beings, so EI is absolutely essential. ❤️ Despite extensive research, like the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report and OECD Future of Education and Skills, highlighting EI's importance for the future of work, it's still undervalued in education and corporate training. 👎 This oversight fuels stress, anxiety, and insecurity in classrooms and workplaces. 😔 😰 😫 I'm on a mission to change that. We need EI in every business curriculum and corporate training program worldwide. 🌏 Let's equip our students and employees with these skills to create thriving schools and better workplaces. 🌟 #EmotionalIntelligence #Leadership #FutureOfWork #MentalSkills

📢 As leaders, our job is to ask questions, not just give answers! 🌟 While I maintain a healthy level of empathy with my clients and students, guiding them to find their own solutions, my approach with my staff was different. I felt an overwhelming urge to protect them, like a mama bear. 🐻 But I learned that it wasn’t my responsibility to carry their emotional load. It took practice, but I found my empathy sweet spot and set better boundaries. I began releasing the emotions in my body when team members shared, holding space for them to express themselves safely without taking on their emotions. Instead of solving their challenges, I started coaching them. 🤔 Telling them what to do sent the wrong message, creating dependence rather than empowerment. I had to relearn what I did with my clients and students—how to balance compassion, empathy, and boundaries. To every business leader struggling to get the results they want, here's my advice: Don't try to be the problem-solving hero. Inquire more than you advocate your ideas. Ask thought-provoking questions rather than telling your staff what to do. ❓ Wondering how to apply this to your leadership style? In the video, I share three key questions to ask every employee when they come to you with an emotional problem. I also demonstrate a quick method to help them simplify and address their issues effectively. This tip can make a significant difference in how you handle emotional challenges and empower your employees to find their own solutions. 😁 In the evolving work world, a great leader teaches employees to be stronger than their issues and inspires them to have confidence in themselves. This not only helps them find their own solutions but also empowers them to manage their feelings. 🌱 Remember, a leader is a teacher. Just as I didn’t give my students the answers on their tests at the university, I don’t give my team all the answers. Asking questions helps them learn and grow. ❤️
Improving your emotional intelligence is a lot like working out your muscles. Want to boost skills like assertiveness or impulse control? You’ve got to “exercise” them! 💪 If you want stronger abs, you do crunches and core work. 🏋️♂️ The same goes for your emotional muscles—targeted exercises are key. Supposedly, we all have “six-pack” abs hidden somewhere... but for me 🤣, they’re just under-utilized. Bringing them out requires the right exercises. 🤔 Your emotional muscles are no different. Once you identify which skills need a little TLC, you can create a plan or “exercise regime” to enhance and strengthen each one. Ready to flex those emotional muscles? 💬✨ #EmotionalIntelligence #PersonalGrowth #Leadership #SelfImprovement #EQ #MentalFitness
I'm fed up with people using the word "emotional" as a negative trait. 😡 Being emotional simply means you feel things deeply, and you can feel deeply while still being strong, professional, respectful, and kind. 💪 ❤️ If I'm angry, I can say so without losing my cool. 😤 If I'm sad, I can express my sadness and even cry if I need to, 😢 yet still function and make decisions. After years of studying emotional intelligence, I have learned how to be bigger and stronger than my emotions. My feelings are no longer in the driver's seat of my life. I am. 🚗 I wrote my book, #TheEmotionallyStrongLeader, to challenge the misconception that emotions are shameful. 😔 We've been misled into believing our emotions are dirty and expressing them is a sign of weakness. Nothing could be further from the truth. ❌ Our emotions are full of wisdom. 🧠 When we pay attention to them, they offer incredible insights into our internal psyche and the world around us. 🌍 We just need to learn how. The good news is emotional intelligence can be learned, developed, and enhanced. 📚 Embracing your emotions and using them to connect more authentically and communicate more effectively can elevate your leadership. 🌟 Who else is committed to being emotional AND strong? Who is with me? ✋✋✋✋✋
Is your perception getting in your way at work? Our personal biases can cloud our objectivity, affecting our decisions and leadership. It's crucial to recognize and challenge these biases to lead more effectively. Let's strive for clarity and objectivity in our professional lives. #Leadership #SelfAwareness #Objectivity
As leaders, we bring our personality traits and emotional makeup to work, and it's important to recognize how these aspects influence our leadership. Personally, I struggle with trusting people, which affects how I lead. I tend to do more than I need to and avoid delegating. I also overaccommodate and am too flexible, leading to overstepped boundaries and sometimes feeling taken advantage of. Understanding how our emotional makeup impacts our leadership is crucial. This year, I'm committed to trusting more and being more stringent when necessary. What are you working on to improve your leadership and be the best leader you can? Let's all strive for self-awareness and growth in our leadership journeys. #Leadership #SelfAwareness #Growth
