U.S. Youth Ambassadors kicks off our summer season in Costa Rica!

13 USYA participants arrived safe and sound in San Jose earlier this week! The group was received at the airport by AFS Costa Rica, our partner organization that is implementing the travel exchange in the country. The group will be spending 3 days in San José to start their journey before traveling to the community of Turrialba this weekend.

Rocio Terrazas, Youth Ambassador 2022, embarks into her first work experience closely related to Media Studies, her major, at an international organization as a content creator. She will work on the logistics needed for courses, webinars, and other educational projects offered by this organization. Rocio would like to thank the Youth Ambassadors Program for all the knowledge in project management and multicultural skills gained as they played an important role when she applied for this position. She will now be using all these skills in real life.

The 2023 Youth Ambassadors Program with Peru have officially completed their projects! On Friday we celebrated Peruvian youth and mentors who have impacted hundreds of people across Peru with their projects ranging from workshops on understanding water/soil management to building a digital library to increase access to books. We so blown away by your continued commitment to community. Help us welcome our newest alumni to the YA community!

From Honduras, Belize, to El Salvador, our participants were fully immersed throughout their experiences in Utah! 🌟 Exploring the American education system, they delved into entrepreneurship at Salt Lake Community College and experienced hands-on learning at Salt Lake School for Science Education. 📚💡 At Spy Hop, they unleashed their creativity through bookbinding, podcasts, and digital design, sharing their unique journeys through a variety of mediums. Their visit to the Utah State Capitol and meeting with influential figures like a state senator and high school advocates highlighted the immense power of their voices as catalysts for change. A heartfelt thank you to all our partners who enriched their exchange with unforgettable experiences!

The Youth Ambassadors Argentine Chile program has had an exciting two weeks while on program. With the two groups splitting up between Charlottesville, VA, and Pensacola, FL, there were many new experiences, such as learning about historical sites, visiting community centers, and attending workshops on building leadership skills!

A highlight from the Charlottesville group was their trip to the Habitat for Humanity community center, where participants were able to learn more about community service in the United States and their own country. The Pensacola group had the fantastic opportunity to hold a mock city council session to learn how positive changes can be made in their home communities. These exciting events have prepared them for their final presentations in the DC office, as well as their future service projects.

We are so proud of the work this group has accomplished while on exchange!

Take a look at the LAYA English participants engaging in a diplomatic simulation while on their exchange! The activity had a total of five groups forming the United Nations, a wildlife organization, the Department of State, and two neighboring countries. The issues in the simulation dealt with wildlife conservation specifically of cranes, a dam, and the allocation of water between countries. The group was incredibly impressive, conducting systematic and professional dialogues to come to a solution. By the end of the simulation, they realized the importance of effective communication and collaboration to achieve successful diplomacy. We see some future diplomats in the room!
