Are the carpets in your car wet after it rains?

Customer came in with wet carpets after the rains in KZN on Monday. We removed the headlining to see what the cause could be.

We found the sunroof surround seal was leaking and the sunroof drains were blocked. Water was getting into the water channels but not draining out then spilling over the ends and slowly filling up the carpets with water.

On this F25 X3 we had to remove the complete sunroof cassette because the rear panoramic glass actually bolts into the roof from the inside. On the E70 X5 for example, you can just remove both glass panels without all the extra strip work.

Removed the old perished seal and the sticky residue it left behind then carefully installed the new seal.

Assembled the cassette and the sunroof glass panels. The panels need to be aligned so as not to cause a wind noise when driving at higher speeds.

We then checked for leaks to confirm the repair before fully assemblign the headlining. We actually found a secondary leak on the boot lids wiring harness. So we sorted that out aswell and then fully assembled the car.

Drained out all the water in the carpets and dried them out before handing the vehicle back to the customer.

Timing chain replacment.

The vehicle came in with erratic idle and an oil pressure light on.

The timing chain guide broke into pieces and had clogged the oil pump inlet tube. The engine timing also went out quite a bit.

Luckily there was no oil starvation signs and nothing else bent or broken. A new timing chain and chain guides and the vehicle is back on the road with another happy customer.

Looking for a gremlin in the wiring system. The vehicle intermittently wont start and throws a rail pressure too low fault on the diagnostics. The real kicker is it only ever happens to the customer at a game farm that he goes to. Let's see what we find
