Electric golf carts make use of a battery system, a battery is the unit that, when recharged, supplies the voltage and amperage needed by the cart to be able to perform.

The size and power requirements if a battery are key features to look out for when your golf cart is due for a battery replacement.

So what's the difference?

Lead acid specs (Dixon’s/Trojans/Rolls)
- Come with a 12 month warranty
- They have an approximate lifespan of 3-4 years
-A golf cart uses between 4-6 lead acid batteries
-The golf cart needs to be fully charged before use
-Whenever the golf cart is not being used, it must remain on charge
- Lead acid batteries are unsealed which means they require battery water

Lithium ion specs
-These batteries are sealed therefore they require no battery water
-There is only 1 battery in the pack which makes the golf cart lighter
-They carry a 5 year warranty -There is an average lifespan of 10 years
-Lithium ion batteries come with an on/off switch which means the battery can be turned off and will go dormant. This will allow it to hold its charge for up to 3 months if left standing
-There are currently 2 power options - 48aH and 105aH
- Lithium ion batteries come with a new charger

Why does your golf cart need to be serviced?

•Just like your vehicle needs to be serviced, so does your golf cart.
•Servicing is a maintenance measure which is necessary to extend the lifespan and performance of your golf cart.
•Golf carts should be serviced every 6 months to a year, depending on how frequently they are used.

Some signs your cart may need a service are:
-The brake pedal “travels” closer to the floorboard than usual.
-Battery terminals are showing signs of corrosion.
- There is an unusual and often early decrease in power.
-In petrol carts, the engine oil is black.

The purpose of a service is to uncover and rectify any underlying faults that could potentially cause damage to other components of your cart.

Did you know that your golf car batteries need to be cared for in a specific way in order to prolong their lifespan and maximise their performance?
See our top tips below:
• Check your batteries every 3-4 weeks and if dry, top up with de-ionised battery water.
• Make sure your cart is placed back on charge and remains on charge after every use.
• Once a week, unplug the charger from the wall socket for 10 seconds and then plug it back in. This ensures the batteries do not discharge to a level too low to register on the charger.
• Check your terminals for corrosion.
• Make sure your cart gets fully charged at least once a month.
