This is your reminder that whatever it is that you are struggling with right now or the state that you are in is temporary and will pass🪷

Sometimes when life gets difficult and you are going through something challenging, know that it is okay to take a step back, feel and process what you are going through, write about it or just sleep on it😊

This too shall pass🙏

What conditions does homeopathy treat?

Homeopathic doctors have the same rights, responsibilities, and abilities to diagnose and treat diseases (within the scope of their practice) as medical doctors. They can address a wide range of pathologies and diseases, except those that require direct surgical intervention. If a specialist or surgical referral is necessary, a homeopathic doctor can refer the patient to an appropriate healthcare professional.

As primary healthcare providers, homeopathic doctors undergo clinical training to examine patients, request any necessary special investigations such as laboratory tests or diagnostic imaging, and diagnose and treat diseases accordingly.

Homeopathy is used for a wide variety of acute and chronic health issues, including (but not limited to):

✅ Allergies
✅ Migraines
✅ Depression
✅ Chronic fatigue syndrome
✅ Rheumatoid arthritis
✅ Irritable bowel syndrome
✅ Premenstrual syndrome
✅ Minor injuries
✅ Toothache migraines
✅ Headaches
✅ Cough, colds & flu
✅ Asthma
✅ Autism

Have you never seen a Homeopath before?👩‍⚕️

Your first consult may differ slightly depending on the doctor’s style and your goals, but most consultations will have the following characteristics:

1️⃣ Appointment Duration:
You can expect the initial consultation to last about an hour, as the homeopath is seeking a large scope of information that will aid in providing you with a tailored care plan, specific to your needs.

2️⃣ History Taking:
During your first consultation, the homeopathic doctor will take a complete and detailed history. This will include your current concerns, your general health, your past medical history, family history, as well as your emotional and mental health.

3️⃣ Physical Examination:
The homeopath will conduct a relevant physical examination, which may include blood pressure, temperature and pulse. They may refer you for additional special tests (blood tests, ultrasound, x-rays etc.) if deemed necessary.

4️⃣ Diagnosis:
Diagnosis will then follow the detailed history and physical examination. Homeopathy acknowledges that most people won’t experience a condition in exactly the same way. That’s why the homeopath will need time and plenty of information in order to reach a diagnosis, and with that the most helpful remedy.

5️⃣ Treatment Plan:
Once the homeopath has gathered all of your information, he or she will review your data and look for patterns which will guide the doctor to a homeopathic remedy and/or other treatment. Most homeopathic doctors dispense directly at their practices so you may leave with your medication. Otherwise they may write a prescription to be filled. Sometimes the doctor will make an immediate recommendation and provide you with the remedy at your first visit. Other times, they will need to study the information further and contact you later with a treatment plan.

Homeopathic treatment follows an individualised approach. It is therefore important to take time with your doctor and give them detailed information.

Take care of your gut health💛

Did you know that you produce four hundred times more serotonin in the gut compared to the brain?

Did you know that your gut makes other feel-good hormones like melatonin and estrogen?

Or that imbalances in your gut flora can cause altered thyroid function?

So you can start to see how problems in the gut can be contributing to the symptoms of depression.

👉The key is to look upstream of the depressed symptoms for the root cause.

The microbial ecosystem that resides within your intestinal tract isn’t static—it changes with diet, age, stress, other environmental factors, and health status as well as medication exposures.

Some of these factors can shift your gut microbiome in the direction of depression.

There is constant talk between the gut and brain: some of it travels along the vagus nerve and some of it travels in the blood, especially in nutrients, hormones, proteins, peptides (smaller versions of proteins), and inflammatory messengers like antibodies and cytokines.

The good news is that while abnormal microbiota can lead to brain/body dysfunction and cause brain symptoms like depression, correcting these disturbances is proven to reverse symptoms.

Depression is closely intertwined with a healthy balance in the gut.

👉Maintaining and restoring the condition of the gut ecosystem can prevent and reverse brain symptoms like depression and burnout.

Homeopathy can be used to treat both acute and chronic ailments in children. 🧑👱‍♀️👧👱‍♂️

Some of these conditions include asthma, colic, croup, allergies, behavioural disorders and diarrhea, as well as many more.

Treatment by a homeopathic practitioner involves an extensive interview and evaluation that includes physical health problems, birth history, family history, sleep patterns, food preferences, temperament, and behavioral patterns of your child. This means that the treatment chosen will be tailored to each specific child. 🧒

Homeopathic medicines are also extremely safe for children, as they come in highly diluted doses.

Did you know that Homeopathy can potentially help overcome the problem with antimicrobial resistance? 🤯

In an article published by Prof Michael Frass and colleagues, entitled ‘Evidence-based homeopathy and veterinary homeopathy, and its potential to help overcome the antimicrobial resistance problem - an overview’, they evaluate the potential of homeopathy for the reduction of antibiotic use. 💊

You will recall the name Michael Frass from our posts of the LMHI congress which took place this year in Turkey. 👨‍⚕️

This paper discusses studies where homeopathy is found to be useful in general in veterinary and human health. Not only that, it ALSO found that homeopathy was effective in treating infections, which results in a reduced need for antibiotics! 🤓

“In addition to studies on the proof of effectiveness of homeopathy for infections, data from health care research, so-called Real World Data, show the potential for a significant reduction in the use of antibiotics through homeopathic treatments”. This is incredibly important when we consider the huge problem we face with antibiotic resistance.

This means homeopathic care reduces the need for antibiotics! 💪🏻

Do you know how homeopathy works? 🤷‍♀️

Homeopathy is a therapeutic medical system. The basic principle of homeopathy is based on the observation that substances that are capable of triggering certain diseases can be used in a diluted form to treat that same disease. This is the homeopathic Law of Similars, also known as “like cures like”.

For example, onions make your eyes water. When diluted and used in a homeopathic remedy, it could help someone with watering eyes and a streaming nose, as found in allergies. 😪

Homeopathy works by stimulating the body’s own natural healing response. The approach to health is holistic, taking into consideration the individual’s physical, mental and emotional symptoms. Homeopathic treatment therefore follows an individualised approach, each remedy tailored to the specific patient. 👦👨‍🦰👱‍♀️

In order to be treated truly homeopathically, one needs to consult with a registered practitioner. Although homeopathic products can be bought over-the-counter, holistic treatment should be prescribed by a homeopathic doctor. 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️

When did you last have your eyes tested? 🤓

runs from 21 September to 18 October.
With 13 October being . 🌍👀

The idea is to raise awareness about the importance of eye health, specifically around the prevention and treatment of avoidable blindness. This year's theme is 'Love Your Eyes'. ❤👁👁

It is thought that up to 75% of all vision loss is avoidable, either through prevention or through treatment – which is why it is important to get your eyes tested regularly. 👨‍⚕️

Some symptoms of eye conditions include:

➡ Double vision
➡ Blurred vision
➡ Difficulty focusing on near or distant objects
➡ Eye Pain or Itchiness
➡ Vision loss or visual field loss

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help with eye care.
Don't take your vision for granted. ❤👁👁

What do you know about mental health? 🤔

October is 💚🤓

The objective of this month is to educate the public about mental health, but also to reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness. It is important that mental health and well-being for all is a global priority. 🌍

Mental health disorders comprise a broad range of problems, with different symptoms. These include depression, anxiety, substance abuse and job stress, just to name a few.
In South Africa, it is estimated that at least 1 in 6 people will suffer from a mental health problem at some point in their life.

Mental health problems are the result of a complex interplay between biological, psychological, social and environmental factors. Poor mental health can have a direct effect on drive and motivation, mood and general outlook, cognition and social activities, as well as on the mind-body connection.

Mental illness can be treated and prevented. To see what things you can do to help with your mental health see our blog post: https://blog.homeopathy.org.za/10-things-that-you-can-do-for-your-mental-health-every-day/ 📖
