Their Majesties the King and the Queen of the Belgian people visited UWC – one of our Data Science students meets the Queen

On March 25, 2023, Their Majesties the King and the Queen of the Belgians visited UWC’s CoLab for e-Inclusion and Social Innovation. One of the joint UWC_UGent PhD students, and collaborator with the CoLab, Mr Fallo Khanye, was invited to a round table discussion with the Queen during this historic visit.

Prestigious award for best short paper by Data Science academics and researchers from UWC and UGent!
A team of Data Scientists from University of Western Cape in collaboration with colleagues from Media, Innovation and Communication Technology at Ghent University in Belgium (imec-mict-UGent), received a prestigious award at the National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (NEMISA) 2023 Digital Skills Colloquium.
The paper was presented by a 2022 Data Science masters students, Fallo Khanye, and was awarded the best short paper at the NEMISA 2023 Gala function on 16 February 2023 in Umhlanga Rocks,
KwaZulu-Natal.
The title of the paper is:
mobileDNA application used to explore location information.

Our 2022 Data Science masters students completed their internal projects for the Western Cape Colab with great success. We are so proud of you!!

On Thursday, 7 April, UWC's Statistics and Population Studies department awarded the first SAS e-badges to Honours and Masters students who completed their studies in 2021. These e-badges were the first to be awarded by any university in Africa.

We are very proud of the 16 Honours students who each received 2 e-badges and 5 M.Sc (with specialisation in Data Science) students who each received 3 e-badges. These e-badges are now linked to their social media and LinkedIn profiles.

We are proud to congratulate Thato Mlondleni and Brandon Hendricks on graduating MSc Statistics with Specialization in Data Science.
