We're only a week away from August and it is THE BEST month for churning out MONSTER bass on big baits, but you don’t need to break the bank to do it. If you’re headed to the tackle store today or tomorrow checkout Keitech’s 6.5” Easy Shiner and 5.8” Fat Swing Impact swimbaits or for an upscaled jerkbait McArthy’s 6” Tiddler is a winner too. All you need to get started is a 7’3 – 7’6” medium heavy or heavy powered rod, 15-20lb fluoro and a weighted hook like the Hayabusa WRM958WT Wide Gap Screw Lock in the 5/0, 1/4oz model. The heavier the weight the more control you’ll have when slow rolling bigger swimbaits and keeping them in contact with the bottom, the water is still warming so those bass will still be hugging the bottom at times. Get out there and give it a go around known spawning flats, main lake points and channels leading into spawning bays.
