Benoni Blue Forest Guides, Brownies and parents went down to the Atlasville Vlei to do a litter clean up. This river runs into the Homestead dam which is a prevalent dam in Benoni and used by many for different activities. The girls were shocked by the smell of the river and some of the rubbish found. Even though it had been recently cleaned, our girls filled 12 black refuse full of all sorts, including nappies. We cleaned out bins and inserted bin bags for easier removal in future, hopefully. Save a fishie inspiration!
Two of our Gauteng East Youth members took part in Rovertiki this weekend 🤩 We joined Nautilus Rovers and a Bedfordview scouter to make our hybrid NautFord crew. We had tons of fun and ended up coming in 2nd overall! Our team won Mobility and Team Spirit, coming in 2nd and 3rd for every other competition 🥳
In our ongoing celebration of creativity and innovation, we spotlight the Wing Scouts, established in 1941, whose adventurous spirit in aviation education set new heights for Girl Scouts. Partnering with major airlines, this program offered young women unprecedented opportunities to learn about and engage directly with flying, even allowing some to take control of aircraft under supervision. This bold initiative not only broadened the horizons of Girl Scouts but also challenged traditional gender roles of the time. Let’s continue to draw inspiration from these early aviators as we push the boundaries of what’s possible today!
