The Vagal nerve controls many important bodily functions including breathing, immune response, digestion, mood regulation and many more. The vagal nerve is responsible for helping our bodies move to the rest and digest state!
There is strong evidence that stimulating the vagal nerve through various ‘exercises’ can reduce stress and improve our over all well being!
By practicing techniques such as deep breathing we can stimulate the vagal nerve. This in turn switches is from a ‘flight and fright response’ to ‘rest and digest mode’.
When we experience chronic stress, pain, anxiety depression etc. our bodies are in constant ‘flight or fright’ mode.
Deep breathing is just one way of achieving vagal nerve stimulation!
Let me know if you’re interested in hearing about the others 😃

I attended a fantastic talk from someone living with chronic pain that reminded me of how our thoughts feelings and behaviours directly impact how much pain we experience!
Yes chronic pain is complex but it’s complexity gives us so many options in treatment !
This brings hope !
If you’re struggling with pain book with me today for a detailed assessment and treatment plan.

Wishing you all a happy Women’s Day from
I’m inspired daily by female role models in my life and hope today is a day we can cherish those women who inspire us and set out to be role models for future generations of female entrepreneurs.

For the next few weeks I’ll be doing some posts on treatment strategies I use in clinic.
Goal setting is an integral part of treatment planning and these goals should be set by the person being treated not by the clinician!
Let’s focus on treating the whole person and getting people back to their valued activities !

It’s time to talk about our next topic in the running injury series !
Have you been experiencing pain on the outside of your hip whilst training ? Does it get irritated lying on your side ?
Read this series to gain some insight into self management but also the importance of seeking a good physio assessment and treatment early !
Tendons need load but it’s important that this is done progressively and that rehab is tailored to your specific goals.
Book to see for an in depth assessment and treatment by calling 0214612142 for bookings today

Have you been experiencing lateral knee pain with exercise ? ITBS is often described as a sharp pain and feeling of ‘tightness’ around the outside of the knee that feels worse with specific exercise (running) and functional movements (stairs).
There is a lot of misinformation out there about the causes of ITBS and the best way to treat it.
For a thorough evidence based assessment and treatment book with today!
