Now for a slow weekend surviving the Cape Town heat wave! I hope these new pretty rose like impatiens aren't too bothered by the extreme heat...
A re-purposed ash tray! And I absolutely LOVE it. Found by my hubby on his search for blue and white ceramics for a mosaic project. Of course I intercepted him and now have a stunning pin dish.

The vintage floral on a dark background is such a timeless print, and can easily be dressed or down.

Tessa Greene tagged us in this incredible make of the Roseland Jacket a few weeks back.
Her chosen fabric worked so perfectly for the drape, as well as the light texture created through the light quilt inspired topstitching.

Thank you Stephanie Weidlich for sharing your make of the Roseland Jacket with us!
One of the most exciting things about getting tagged in posts and being sent photos is hearing about the fabric you chose for your make.
The connections we as makers have with fabric is such a deeply personal relationship.
Stephanie used a print by Anita Churchill from Waringarri Aboriginal Arts Centre in Kununurra, Western Australia.
Called Barramundi.

Easter weekend feels like the official start of Autumn in South Africa.
Its usually a rainy long weekend filled with all the comforts cozy family gatherings offer. Fire places are often lit for the first time the season and off course there are loads of chocolate and feasting!
s make of the Rosland Jacket in a thicker melton with trim instead of quilting seems ideal for sneaking out to the shop for more hot cross buns!
Happy Easter weekend everyone.
TGIF!
How exciting that its time for the weekend. And also, how is it possible that tomorrow its April!
This year is flying past, and it serves as a reminder to really slow down and appreciate small victories. We’ve had some positive feedback over the last few days, and this is really motivating.
As an additional note, remember that all our patterns are size inclusive, and projector friendly!

I have had a week of feeling stressed over silly details related to websites, Etsy shops etc.
I have been pouring hours into making tiny changes, I’m certain, are completely unnecessary and pointless.
But this is a thing for me. I find tiny insignificant things, make them a BIG deal in my head and obsess.
I had such a lovely chat to Sarah May (who is awesome) and she reminded me not to sweat the small stuff and focus on the part I love: Pattern Making.
She has such sensible clear advice. So that is what I am going to do!

We hope you all had a slow and relaxing Sunday!
The Roseland Jacket does not require padded quilting, but rather just topstitching through the double layer lapel, back facing and cuffs.
You can design your own pattern design for this detail, making every Roseland jacket completely unique.
We cant wait to see all the incredible designs you tag us in!

Its a super rainy day in the Cape today.
Not quite cold enough to start proper layering, but definitely perfect weather for this lightweight Roseland Jacket.
And also, what is better than sewing away on a long weekend.
Especially since it seems we have been spared by loadshedding!

What are your weekend plans?
Sometimes it feels like there are just way too many projects and really not enough time.
Slow creative projects should be there to connect with you passion, to wind down after a busy week of ‘being all the things to everyone’, to make space for yourself.
What is your favourite way of slowing down?
We are so inlove with Siska from ‘s version of the Polperro blouse!
‘I chose the sewhello polperro blouse as the first sew in my new sewing room. I wanted a straightforward sew with an easy fit. A simple top with pretty details that can go with anything and that I will reach for over and over. It certainly did not disappoint! I took my time to finish each detail and really enjoyed putting this top together. Love the instructions for finishing though I opted to finish my hem with bias tape instead of the suggested rolled hem. Will definitely try it next time! ‘
Thank you Siska for sharing you photos with us.

Hello, I’m Mary.
It is rather overdue to introduce myself, but better late than never!
I live in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa, with my husband, David, our three children and fur baby, Tiggy-Winkle.
It has taken me quite some time to get Sew Hello off the ground. In 2017 I ran with the idea, however, between really tough pregnancies, motherhood, three small children (with tiny age gaps), throw in some post-partum depression and sleep deprivation, well, Sew Hello got put on hold. But I am happy to say, finally, it is all happening. A little about me: I studied fashion design many moons ago, and after working in a number of different industries I came back to fashion and worked as a pattern maker for large clothing and swimwear manufacturers and later as a garment technologist for a RTW clothing company.
After having children, I was fortunate to become a full time mom, which I have completely cherished.
I am now bursting with ideas and the need to be creative and Sew Hello been the perfect project to delve into.
I drink a LOT of earl grey. I LOVE gardens and gardening (although I am a lazy gardener and expect the most of my plants).
I’m obsessed with Cornwall, country gardens and Monty Don.
I start WAY too many creative projects that I don’t always finish (lots of WIP’s around the house). I’m a terrible fabric stasher, but in my defense, it runs in my genes. When I’m feeling creative I take out ALL the things and spread them all over our house and am very bad at packing things away (this drives my darling husband crazy).
I aspire to be a minimalist but have a FAR too creative husband and too many hobbies and interests and for this to ever be possible. Therefore, our home is an eclectic blend of mid-century Modern meets country, with a dash of Cape vernacular and we love it.
My hope: that you find Sew Hello inspiring and fun and find great patterns here to build the slow and sustainable wardrobe of your dreams.
x
Mary
