Beverley Chiat I All about Voice

Last Sunday evening I was privileged to have taken part, in 2 shows of 'Celebrating Chayele' (wunderkind of the Vilna Ghetto in Lithuania) as part of the Chayele Rosenthal Exhibition at the Jewish Holocaust and Genocide Centre. It was wonderful to work together with fabulous singers and musos, Ivor Joffe, Caely-Jo Levy, Zoe Modlinne (and Zola) with Matthew Victor Reid (music arranger and clarinettist), Kerryn Torrance on Violin & Stefan Lombard on piano. These heart-aching and heartwarming shows were written, performed and organised by the amazing Zola Piatka Shuman, who told her late mother and uncle's stories as we sang her uncle's beautiful yiddish lyrics . This worthwhile exhibition can still be viewed at the Holocaust Centre in Cape Town.

Last night was a special evening celebrating a remarkable woman. Sarita Stern, my 90 year singing teacher and friend of 31 years now, launched her book. Such a privilege to have been there and to have sung for her with my best friend, Mezzo- Soprano, Violina Anguelov-Hobbs andxthe beautiful Sam Riedel with her sensitive piano accompaniment. I am loving teaching junior school kids around 9 years-12 old as well as high school teens, at the amazing school, Springfield Convent in Wynberg. The kids bring me enthusiasm, joy and laughs. Sometimes their struggles are apparent but one thing is for sure, singing soothes the soul and is a balm for the heart for both teacher and pupil. It's a learning curve for all involved. Grateful to my pupils . 💟🙏
