Dear ACCA Student

The much awaited document on the mechanics of group consolidation is finally out. The document is on my LinkedIn page: Daddy Chipere

I have covered the critical areas that you need to focus on to pass a question on group consolidation. Please remember the documemnt is for Financial Reporting (FR). For Strategic Busisines Reporting (SBR) the issues are more detailed and complicated. I will come up with that for SBR after the Dec 2022 exams, useful for those preparing for March 2023 exams

You need to be comfortable with the calculations detailed in the document for insatnce, Goodwill, group retained earning, non-controling interest, provision for unrealised profit (pup) and so on. Once you are comfortable with all these calculations, i always tell my students, you will pass the exam question on this area before you even enter the exam hall!

Deferred tax is not a “real” tax, but is simply an accounting adjustment which matches recorded accounting transactions with the related tax effect where these occur in different periods.

Deferred tax arises because of temporary differences between the accounting treatment and the tax treatment of certain items.

Dear ACCA Audit & Assurance Student

Auditi & Assurance (AA) is one of the modules with a very low pass rate. SACOB understands why this is so and have come up with a revision programme as from next week (17/10/2022) to specifically deal with this.

There will be four sessions, one per week. These sessions will be focusing on wording, phrasing, answer structure, exam technique, etc required and expected from you as the student by examiner.

ACCA Syllabus Changing in Relation to Professional Skills Marks.

As from September 2022 the Professional Level syllabuses will be changing in relation to professional skills marks awarded.

Professional skills marks will now be 20%. The Strategic Business Leader (SBL) exam have this 20% already but the other professional modules did not such much.

This is good news to students! Why? This is because you do not require time to earn the professional skills marks. As you answer the technical part of the question you will be, simultaneously, earning these marks.

As such the exam will be 80% technical requirements and 20% professional skills - as you answer the 80% you will be earning the 20%.

Professions skills requirements influences the way you write your technical answer, you do not need extra time and effort to earn these marks - this is fantastic.

So the good news is that the 3hrs in the exam hall will be for answering 80% of the paper and still get 100%, you will earn the 20% as you answer the 80%

'Can I use work experience gained before commencing the ACCA Qualification towards my PER?'

Yes. You can use experience from previous job roles (before or after you registered as an ACCA student) to help you claim a performance objective. There is no specific time limit.



However, the qualified person who supervised your work at that time must be able to review and sign off the performance objectives and time you claim on the basis of this experience.



Also, as the profession continually evolves, consider carefully if experience gained more than five years ago is still relevant.

The time to start preparing for the September exam is now. These modules, in accordance with my experience, require at least 2.5 months to comfortably complete.
