One of the more exciting things we got to do on our latest project on Signal Hill for Table Mountain National Park was a Visual Landscape Assessment. This was absolutely necessary because the visual and heritage just tied in so closely together. Also too often when people think of impact assessment or visual impact its usually the natural environment that everybody fusses over. But clearly the city too has a skyline just as the natural topography of the Lions Rump and Lions Head. A Visual Landscape Assessment helps to guide the next phase which will have to be a full on Visual Impact Assessment.

In September 2013 I did the condition assessment of the 'A' Section of the Maximum Security Prison on Robben Island. The foto's are just some that were taken. The condition had deteriorated significantly since the 2008 renovations had been done.

In September 2014 I was tasked to do a state of conservation report/ condition assessment of the 'A' Section in the Maximum Security Prison on Robben Island. The prison had undergone renovations in 2008. The photo is of the piping that outlines the cladding of Blue Stone, which was repaired in 2008 but clearly has fallen off by 2013. The piping speaks to the intangible workmanship of prisoners painstakingly applying and shaping the mortar mix. Unintentionally the piping also acts as a mini gutter that allows water to run off and away rather than seep in behind the cladding.

Have just completed a photo and site survey of signal hill for Table Mountain National Park. The first pic is an observation post from ca. WWI. No.2 and 3 are the remains of the Port War Signalling Station during WWII
