They’re not just for weekends,

Friends aren’t just for evenings,

Friends aren’t just for company
when there’s nothing to do.
Friends aren’t just for good times,
or even for bad.
Friends aren’t just for cheering me up
when I’m sad.
Friends are there at the beginning,
and stay ‘til the end.
So, on each page of my diary,
you’ll find the word “friend”
A little sunshine...a little laughter...and a whole lot of fun while learning ALWAYS!

Levelling up in the Music & Movement department to bring our pupils loads more fun while learning! 🎶💃
What is music and movement?
Music and movement activities combine music with physical movement. This includes singing, dancing, playing instruments, and moving to the beat.

Why is it essential in Early Childhood Development?
🎶 Supports physical & motor skills development
🎶 Enhances language development
🎶 Improves social-emotional skills
🎶 Encourages creativity
🎶 Strengthens cognitive skills
🎶 Reinforces healthy habits

Just some random pics of a few of the fun things we get upto - well...because learning through fun is what we do best at WKA! 🤸🏻🎉
Show and tell is an integral part of our curriculum enhancing confidence, listening and communication skills. 🩵
Life Skills is such an important component of the holistic development of a child. Things like cleaning dishes, using the bathroom and food preparation help with fine & gross motor skills, executive brain functioning, sequence and sets, confidence and so much more! 🩵
Remember: a child learns best when they are interested in what they are learning. ✨
Who ever said learning about colours needs to be dull and boring! 🤸🏻 🥳
Colour crazy holiday fun! 🎉
Kids who feel good about themselves have the confidence to try their best at new things.
They feel proud of what they can do. Self-esteem also helps kids cope with mistakes.
They feel encouraged to try again, even if they fail at first.
Here are a few simple but highly effective ways to boost your child's confidence...
June holidays have come and gone...and we're more than ready for term three! Here are some randoms taken during June & July term break.
A love of learning is a seed that, when planted in a child, grows a forest of knowledge.
"Let’s normalize children who need that extra comfort at night.
the hand holders to go to sleep, the midnight jump into your bed, the children that have to sleep next to you.
you are doing nothing wrong. whether your child sleeps independently or not, is not a reflection of your parenting."
Gentle parenting reminder.❤️
How things have changed...
Play is vital for a child's development, fostering physical, cognitive, and social skills. It encourages creativity, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence. Through play, children learn about themselves, others, and the world around them. It's not just fun; it's essential for healthy growth and development.

Our Annual Charity Drive has started! And we're so excited to be collecting much needed baby and cleaning items for Hannah's Place of Safety.
Hannah's Place of Safety is located in Cape Town and looks after babies 0-1 years old in need of temporary care and protection. Their commitment to each child is to welcome them with love and treat them as a member of their family.
Please see the list of items they are in dire need of for the little ones and the maintaining of their place of safety.
Items can be dropped off at our school premises from 8am - 4.30pm from Monday to Friday, until 10th June.
Please help us to make a difference.
Ever been met with an "I don't know" or a flat "yes/no/fine" or even "I did nothing today" answer?
Children often need downtime when coming from school. Give them space to recalibrate after a day of stimulation (and sometimes overstimulation). Chances are they'll be more than forthcoming with sharing their day's experiences with you, after feeling more relaxed. Drive time (although often not directly after picking them up from school), bath time and before bed time are great opportunities to engage in conversation.
Another tip: Share insight about your day and thoughts too. It's important to have conversations WITH your child. It increases vocabulary, improves social and communication skills, can teach them the art of turn taking and active listening, and definitely adds to their self confidence.
"If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff." Catherine M. Wallace
To all out Moms...we know it can be exhausting fulfilling your many roles as mother, daughter, sister, wife, friend, career woman, home mom and every other role you fulfill to be there for everyone and everything. We see you. We appreciate you. We are you.
Remember to be kind to yourself while you're navigating being the best version of yourself for your little one. ❤️
Each month the team unanimously selects a Staff Member of the Month based on a multitude of criteria and skills. This collaborative decision-making encourages continuous team spirit, motivation and striving to be a better version of the person you were yesterday.
Staff member of the month as chosen by WKA team for term one:
🌟January - Aneeqah (Principal)
Totally unexpected - but knew something was fishy when I didn't receive the vote tally directly as per usual 😅 Humbled. 🙏
🌟February - Nayyaab (Pre-grade R/Big Thinkers)
With WKA for two years, her unwavering commitment and continous perseverance to do better and be better for her students pushes her out of her comfort zone and in doing so allows her to recognize the great potential she has to offer those around her... potential already clearly seen by others. Naayaab excels in observations, interventions and connecting with her pupils, offering support to them in all ways necessary.
🌟March - Felicity (Toddlers/Explorers)
A gem and mother hen of our team, with decades of experience as a nurse and elderly care giver, she fills her Toddlers' days with endless compassion, stimulation and unwavering attention. She doesn't allow anything to stand in her way of evolving and is an inspiration to her younger cohorts.
We salute all our staff for the professional and passionate work they do. And we take this opportunity to hilight the chosen members who have received their fellow team members' vote of confidence! Well done! 👏👏
This past weekend saw some of our team members partaking in Autism training with Grow Educare and Autism Connect. It was a highly informative workshop with a wealth of knowledge on how we can be better equipped to support our learners on the Autism spectrum. 🩵
We look forward to future collaborations with these phenomenal organizations!
Well done WKA Team! 👏🌟

Autism Awareness Month 🩵
An important study on how parental behavior affects children's development and later mental health and coping strategies in life.
"Finally, it appears mental health is affected not just by perceptions of parental behavior then, but by how they are remembered later. For example, a 2010 review study found adult individuals’ remembrances of “parental rejection in childhood are likely to be associated with the same form of psychological maladjustment as tends to be found among children who perceive themselves to be rejected by their parents.”
