Happy Birthday big Sista, Auntie Sabrie, Soul Searcher…maybe this year’s trip around the sun be full of adventures and good times. Be cautious as you are well into the second half of things. 🤪 Some people will say it’s all downhill from here, but I say enjoy that ride. It can pass by very fast, but can be full of excitement.

It’s such a treat to be able to watch these fishermen do their thing, cast their wide nets in search for fish of all size and shapes. These hard-working souls slowly make their way up and down the shores of Lagos Lagoon where I am currently working on three different projects for a client. The best part of it all is these fishermen and their dufuna canoes are visible from the hotel where my photo shoot is this week.
A little factoid….the dufuna canoe found in 1994 by a team of German and Nigerian archaeologists in the Yobe State is the second oldest canoe type in the world. Radiocarbon dating of a sample of charcoal found near the site dates the canoe somewhere between 8500 to 8000 years old. It is the oldest boat to be discovered in Africa, and the second oldest known worldwide.
Moral of the story…if it works, why redesign it!!

Happy Earth Day fellow Earthlings 🌍

Living on this earth is not always black & white and especially not when we live so close to such a beauty, Table Mountain. Our Cape Town is sandwiched between an equally beautiful coastline. That makes it even more precious and vital that we look after our Mother City. It only takes each of us to do our part to make a difference.

These 3 photos came up in a memory on one of my other social media accounts and since this kind of work is right in my wheelhouse I thought I’d put it out to the universe.
These images were created for a Cape Town ship builder. Thankfully we’ve got skilled helicopter pilots to get the camera in the right places at the right time. got us in those places for this shoot.

Looking at the weekend like this lizard (iguana).
Check out the detail in that shot. It’s an image crop of the images that follow. I’m super impressed with the 50mm f1.4 lens on the A7R3.

It’s never too late to post a little magic!
These two images were created when the family went Magic Kingdom. We got lucky to see the fireworks during summer as the daily thunderstorms can cause issues with the show.
Created with A7R3 and the 50mm f1.4. This lens is SO sharp!!

Just a couple of views from a little placed named Libreville, Gabon. Libreville translated from French to English means Freetown.

Gabon, a country along the Atlantic coast of Central Africa, has significant areas of protected parkland. The forested coastal terrain of its famed Loango National Park shelters a diversity of wildlife, from gorillas and hippos to whales. Lopé National Park consists of mostly rainforest. Akanda National Park is known for its mangroves and tidal beaches. In fact, almost 90% of the country is protected nature areas.

Gabon is considered a global leader in climate action—probably the most carbon-positive country in the world due to its strong environmental conservation and longstanding political commitment to preserving the country’s untouched natural environment. In 2021, it became the first country to receive results-based payments for reduced forest emissions.

Anyone else’s head above the clouds on this first Monday of August???

This was scene above the clouds here in Cape Town this morning while chaos resumed below as a result of the ongoing Santaco Taxi Strike enters into its 5th day. There is no shortage of violence and bullying from the union members. Deaths have been lost and property ruined after thugs and hooligans join the movement.

For now, I’ll happily keep my head above the clouds, but my heart goes out to all those affected by the senseless, unlawful behaviour by these individuals.

Absolute magical moments from above the Florida Keys with my *new* Mavic 3 Pro. This is a serious upgrade from my previous Mavic Pro. Thanks to for developing serious tools for us creatives.

All good vacations have to come to an end.

This is the way we spent our last afternoon in the Florida Keys. It was a hard pill to swallow after three glorious weeks together in Crescent Beach, Orlando, Fort Myers, Everglades City, South Beach - Miami, Marathon and Key West. It was our first extended vacation like this, but I’m confident that there are many more to come.

The spot is called Horseshoe Cove and is like swimming in an aquarium.

Just another drive to get some Vit Sea
Legend has it that Kaputaş Beach was a favourite destination of Cleopatra. She enjoyed feeling the Egyptian sand under her feet so much that she had her people being sand on ships from the Egyptian coast to fill this beach you see below.

What isn’t there to love about an AI bot generated man bird? The possibilities are endless. To create this look in real life would require some amazing special and whole lotta budget. It certainly inspires the mind to wander and be creative!!

prompt was “King in a Jungle”. I am really interested in the interpretation made by artificial intelligence. I have resisted the idea of learning about images generated by AI, but the time has come to embrace it for whatever purpose it serves. Ultimately, you can decide how you use these images. For me it’s all about the visual inspiration and reference to create images with my own cameras.

It was such a pleasure watching my eldest daughter and her teammates play in the All Girls Festival this past weekend. They have all grown and improved so much with the sport. I can’t wait to see what they all achieve this year as a team and individuals.

Up up in the clouds ☁️….
Or not ?

Not! This is one of many wild, bush fires that Cape Town has during its dry season.

During the hot and dry summer season, wildfires are more prevalent and are difficult to control. Wildfires (also referred to as veld fires) are bush fires both within and outside urban areas that have the potential to spread out of control. Most wildfires are started by people, compared to a small amount which is started by natural occurrences such as lightning.

Early fire warnings remain critical to controlling fires quickly. When a fire does break out, getting control over it as quickly as possible is vital. If a fire is contained within the first hour, the possibility of a major incident is minimised. The public is therefore implored to report any signs of fire, regardless of how insignificant it may appear, to their local fire service by dialing 112.

5 Main causes of wildfires are:

•Intentional: Arson is a malicious and criminal act of deliberately starting fires.

•Smoking: Discarded cigarette butts can also cause wildfires, either from workers working in the fields or bush, passing pedestrians or motorists.

•Cooking fires: Open fires for cooking and discarded hot ashes can cause wildfires, particularly in nature conservation areas or on farms.

•Burning of debris: Permitted and unpermitted burning of debris, if badly managed or if weather conditions change suddenly, can cause fires.

•Lightning: Lightning is a cause of both wildfires and structural fires.
