Saw my Dr yesterday(4/20😎) knee feels stable, have quite a big scar build up medially at my femoral condyle so need to manage that. I am struggling with extension, getting better though. More of a struggle when mobilizing. Flexion is about 110-115 degrees My VMO is there somewhere🧐 Slowly mobilizing without crutches more this week, and trying to do without my brace. So working hard to improve ROM, scar management, gait re-education. The hard work starts now. I don’t have so much pain, I am mostly struggling with joint stiffness, and obviously not yet fully confident with stability. @lifeisajourknee

Slowly increasing my ROM both flexion and extension Wounds are almost fully healed. Lots of scar tissue to work through. Wearing a ROM brace, using crutches. Maintaining muscle strength as much as possible I had quite a bit of damage to my right lower limb: Medial femoral condyle fracture Hamstring tendon tear with lateral collateral ligament tear Meniscocapsular separation of posterior horn of medial meniscus. Surgery comprised chondroplasty, synovectomy, microfracture, debridement, injection of synovial gel. Apart from the knee, I sprained my ankle with grade 3 medial and lateral ligament tears. The bruising is now only starting to go away. @lifeisajourknee

Long post. Me being honest. This is week 3 post op for me, but 1 month of being at home so like an extended lockdown for me, and now lockdown has been extended. Had a very down day today. 1. Having my first major injury 2.My first major surgery 3.Having to recover during a lockdown due to a virus 🦠 while having my boys around and worrying about my wife working in the frontline of the virus in a hospital 4.I did not think that it would be tough, but it is. And now having to endure what my patients have to endure, you would think it is easy to do because I am a physiotherapist. I realize I am a patient too now and have to accept that. And so I pray for patience, for peace and for strength to endure during this unique time of recovery not only for myself but for the world. @lifeisajourknee #kneesurgery #kneesurgeryrecovery #kneesurgeryrehab #tryingtostaypositive

Official #lockdown2020 day 1 in #SouthAfrica. I’ve been in lockdown since 9th March😂😂 Week 1 post-op knee surgery, busy with CPM to improve my range and help with the stiffness. Thanks @marqlabuschagne and @physiopaedic for organizing. Taking it easy doing what I can to assist with the healing. I now have a better understanding and better sympathy for my patients and those that undergo surgery. The importance is understanding that the recovery is not to be rushed. I suspect it’s hard to love anyone in the healthcare field. We get up early and don't have time to drink coffee over the newspaper. We come home late and are too tired to cook. We work extra hours because we know there are sick people who need us and we are all that they have. We miss events, holidays, birthdays, and our children's school sports games. We don't get too excited over your minor "boo-boo.” We’ve seen far worse. We think about our patients even when we leave the building, wondering did we help them in any special way because they depend solely on us for all their needs. We don't want to talk when we come home. We’ve talked all day. We don't want to move when we come home. We’ve moved all day. It may seem that we have left all our caring, our heart, and our love at work, then have come home to you empty. We probably have. But we don't tell you that many times at work we’re mired by anxiety and we’re scared; scared we’re missing something. Scared we will let our patient down, or worse. Our patients are our families, too. We don't tell you how some of our patients are dying and this makes us cry on the way to work; to do a job we love, but how we’re terrified too because it is breaking us down while putting the most vulnerable at risk. We don't share with you how our hearts melt when our patients give us that loving smile that makes our day. I suspect it is hard to love a healthcare worker, but know this: your healthcare worker needs your love, your understanding, and to know that you "get it.” We need to be the one taken care of every once in a while. We need someone else to take charge of the details because doing it ourselves constantly is exhausting. We need a shoulder to cry on when we can't even tell you why we’re grieving. We need you to do the hardest work you may ever do, which is to love a healthcare worker. This is our calling, to help our patients; our passion and our reason for living. I would like to thank those of you out there who love us and let us do this work, pursue this calling, and living this life ❤️
