The new year is starting with many exciting changes for us. 2023 had us say goodbye both to Craig and Will .lindeque, both amazing practitioners who had been with us since day one.

Change is good, it keeps us on our toes and we embrace it.

We will start offering yoga again on the 22nd of January with 3 experienced yoga teachers, all of them studio owners and so knowledgeable.
Sharline’s , Suzanne and Elsa have joined us, each adding their unique style to our offering. They will be available both for private sessions and studio classes.
Come and check out there classes. More information is to be found on our website.

Our second evening inviting our colleagues (physios, bios and podiatrists) to our premises to listen to the fantastic doctors of the Cape Town Sports and Orthopaedic Clinic. Doctors Thane Munting, Michael Bartman, Michael Held and Fred Louw spoke about hip, knee and ankle surgeries. First of all, thank you to these 4 gentlemen- they are great at presenting and always interesting to listen to. And secondly, it was great to see our colleagues at our premises, all 50 of them. Hopefully we can develop this into a regular get together.

1. This exercise is challenging the ankle in an unusual position to control pronation and strengthen supination.

2. This demonstration using a pulley machine to create a isometric rotational type exercise to the trunk. This challenges the rotational muscles within the hip and core system.

3. This is a side crow arm balance posture.

1. Demonstrates a traditional triangle post loaded to challenge the frontal plane within the body.
2. This exercise is challenging the inside and outside ankle muscles by using your hand and strengthening the frontal plane muscles in the leg.
3. This is a demonstration of a curtsy type squat to challenge the gluteal muscles with a bit more rotational control.

1. Demonstrates a traditional squat that can be used to challenge the entire ankle range of motion in the sagittal plane by adding a heel raise at the end of the exercise.

2. Is a hip hinge movement which is an excellent way to strengthen the backline of the body from the mid-back to the feet.

3. Is a shoulder and mid-back strengthening exercise using paralettes.

Strength training involves adding load to the body to improve its ability to build muscle, burn glucose and release endorphins that just makes us feel better. It builds resilience in being able to do normal daily tasks with more ease. A good exercise programme should include a combination of mobility, stability and strength training to ensure for a balanced body.

The transverse/rotational plane is an all-important power plane. At The Balance Group, we ensure that we challenge rotational control by using range of motion and not focusing on bracing the body whilst performing a task.

Photos from The Balance Group's post 17/08/2023

The frontal, or lateral, plane are the sidelines and inside lines of the body, for example, lateral abdominal, latissimus dorsi and lateral gluteal muscles. At The Balance Group we ensure that all three planes receive equal amounts of attention to create a balanced body.

These three exercises demonstrate how we are able to challenge the body in the sagittal plane, to improve stability within the ankle, hips and thoracic spine.

Photos from The Balance Group's post 01/08/2023

This month we will be focusing on stability, which gives your body the confidence to move injury free. This however, goes hand-in-hand with mobility to give us range. Improving your stability subconsciously builds confidence and allows for your range of motion to be strengthened.

The Balance team continues to grow and is really dedicated. After a long day, with many of us starting at 6am, the energy was still enthusiastic at 6.30pm during our inservice. We covered the knee- looking at how various exercises can help and affect this important joint. Teaching physiotherapist, chiropractor, biokineticists, coaches, yoga teachers and massage therapists together helps us develop appreciation for each skill.

26/01/2021

We are expanding and now have a new treatment room. Can’t wait for , our new physiotherapist, to join the Balance family next month.
