Crime Watch SA

For the month of August, Crime Watch assisted with 9 crimes including robbery, theft, armed robbery, and theft from a motor vehicle. Overall, 860 armed responses were completed across Sunset Beach and Milnerton surrounding, with 82% of the responses being completed within 11 minutes. Most of the crimes took place between 09:00AM-11:59AM in August. For 2024 thus far, 63 crimes have taken place involving assistance from Crime Watch, with a majority of them happening on a Saturday and a Wednesday.

30 July 2024: House Break-in

Crime Watch control room was made aware regarding a house break-in within Milnerton Ridge at a non-client's property. Crime Watch officers were despatched and arrived on the scene. There were signs of forced entry - unfortunately the two suspects fled before Crime Watch officers arrived.

A client contacted our control room regarding trespassing on private property. Armed response was despatched to a property in Milky Way. After searching the area, a pair of shoes were found and the armed response officers located and apprehended the suspect. The suspect was handed over to SAPS.

Suspect Apprehended from Grocery Store

After receiving a call for theft, our control room despatched armed response officers to a SPAR in Milnerton. The suspect attempted to flee the scene but our officers quickly detained him. SAPS arrived and the suspect was safely handed over.

• 04 June 2024 – Milnerton Ridge – Trespassing – A tenant of Bay Ridge complex called our control room regarding a suspicious person walking around the premises. An Armed Response Officer was dispatched to investigate. The individual was located at the back of the complex and given a stern warning for trespassing on private property. The male was escorted out of the complex.
• 21 June 2024 – Milnerton Ridge – Trespassing – a client informed the control room that there was a trespasser sleeping on private property. An Armed Response Officer was dispatched and escorted the vagrant out of the area

Royal Ascot Commercial
• 08 June 2024 – Paddocks – Theft of Motor Vehicle – An elderly couple parked their vehicle which was stolen. The Paddocks Security Manager checked the CCTV footage and identified two black males as the suspects. A case was opened with SAPS.

Sunset Beach
• 26 June 2024 – Sunset Beach – House Break-in – The control room received a call stating that the key box was removed from the wall of a premises on Isabella Drive. An Armed Response Officer arrived on the scene and entered the premises with the client. A television and a soundbox were stolen. The locks were changed, and a case was opened with SAPS.

Milnerton Central
• 17 June 2024 – Milnerton Central – Armed Robbery – While on patrol, an Armed Response Officer was approached by a female regarding an armed robbery. Three male African suspects robbed and fled the scene. Recall Security was informed regarding the case.
• 22 June 2024 – Milnerton Central – Theft – An alert was received by the control room regarding an identified suspect on a client’s property. An Armed Response Officer was dispatched and found the premises empty. The officer drove around the area but could not locate the suspect. Two copper taps were stolen from the yard. The client did not open a case with SAPS.

• 14 June 2024 – Tygerhof – Theft – The control room received a call regarding a stolen MacBook. The victim tracked the MacBook to a residency in Mansfield Street. The victim went to SAPS who escorted her to the premises and an Armed Response Officer was dispatched. When confronted, the suspects refused entry without a warrant. The officer recommended the victim open a case with SAPS, which she did.
• 21 June 2024 – Tijgerhof – Theft – A client from Breezand Road reported that his generator and geyser was stolen from his property a few days prior. The client opened a case with SAPS.
• 30 June 2024 – Tijgerhof – Trespassing – The control room received an alarm activation and dispatched an Armed Response Officer to investigate. The neighbour caught the suspect in Marloth Street and requested that the control room contact SAPS. Armed Response updated the neighbour and detained the suspect. The client decided not to open a case with SAPS and requested that the Armed Response Officers release the suspect.

Montague Gardens
• 05 June 2024 – Montague Gardens – Armed Robbery – Our Armed Response Officer reported an armed robbery in John Montague Square. Two additional Armed Response Officers arrived at the scene for backup. Control room contacted SAPS and they arrived at the scene. Five armed black males entered the business at approximately 12: 53 PM. The staff members were threatened at gunpoint and the suspects stole cash and liquor. No serious injuries were sustained. The suspects fled in different directions – a white Jetta 3 was identified as being involved. A case was opened with SAPS.

27 June 2024 - Armed Robbery Milnerton

A Takealot delivery driver was parked on the corner of Park Avenue and Firgrove Road. The victim was approached by three (3) black males. One suspect was positively identified as having a firearm. The 3 suspects robbed the delivery driver. A Crime Watch employee was on his way to a client when the victim approached him and confirmed the armed robbery. One suspect was detained on the corner of Firgrove and Koeberg Road. Our control room despatched armed response for back up and SAPS was informed.

• 17 May 2024 – Paddocks – Theft – The Paddocks Security Manager reported shoplifting at Wellness Warehouse. The suspect was a coloured female. Armed response was dispatched, and the suspect was detained. SAPS was contacted and did not arrive – the suspect was released as per the Shop Manager.
• 18 May 2024 – Paddocks – Theft – The Paddocks Security Manager reported theft from the Spar Tops bottle store. A minor was detained while attempting to steal a bottle of whiskey. The suspect was released, and no case was opened with SAPS due to the suspect being a minor.

• 31 May 2024 – Sunset Beach – Theft – While on patrol, an armed response officer reported a male for theft. A suspect in a blue Golf 3 filled his vehicle with petrol at Engen and drove away without paying.

• 21 April 2024 – House Break-in – The control room received an alarm activation from a premises in Clairwood Crescent. Armed response was dispatched and found the front door open when he arrived. The house was ransacked, and valuables taken. SAPS was informed.
• 26 April 2024 – House Break-in – A client reported a home invasion in Arlington Way. Three black male suspects entered the house through the back door. The suspects tied up the victim inside the house – no injuries were sustained. Laptops, a cell phone, jewellery, and cash were stolen. CCTV footage shows a silver vehicle was used nearby the scene – two of the men were seen wearing dark jeans/pants and navy jackets. SAPS arrived to investigate.

• 17 April 2024 – Robbery Our armed response officer reported a robbery that took place between Corsair and Pringle Roads. A female was robbed by an unknown male suspect with a knife. He took her bag, cell phone and bus ticket. SAPS was informed.

• 12 April 2024 – Robbery – The control room received a call about a robbery. The three suspects were driving a red Renault Kwid. The victim was robbed of his money and cell phone, no injuries were sustained. SAPS was contacted.

• 12 March 2024 – Fraud – A client requested assistance at their premises in Volute Circle. A customer paid for services using a fraudulent card. SAPS was contacted and our armed response was dispatched. The customer then agreed to pay in cash.
• 20 March 2024 – House Break-in – A client called the control room to report a positive break-in. The client’s house on Diluta Drive was forcefully entered. Valuables were stolen from the premises.

Milnerton Central
• 04 March 2024 – House Break-in – A client called our control room regarding unauthorised access into his premises. The suspect entered his house through the kitchen door. Our armed response was dispatched to the premises on Nemesia Street. An investigation confirmed that the house had been ransacked and valuables were stolen. SAPS was contacted.
• 06 March 2024 – House Break-in – The control room received a call from another security company regarding a positive break-in on Orangia Road. The front gate was open, but no alarm signal was received from the premises. Our armed response was dispatched; the client was contacted and arrived on the premises. The suspects gained entry through a window. Another security company reported seeing two males running with a TV; the TV was later found and returned by our armed response officer. The armed response officers and the client checked the premises. No other items were stolen other than the TV.
• 30 March 2024 – Robbery – A client informed the control room that a person in Algoa Road appeared to have been stabbed. Authorities were notified and armed response was dispatched. On arrival, it was reported that the individual was deceased.
• 31 March 2024 – Theft from Motor Vehicle – Our armed response officer was informed that a couple’s vehicle had been broken into while they were in Kwik Spar. Two cell phones and a wallet were stolen from the vehicle. A case was opened with SAPS.

• 20 March 2024 – Business Theft – A member of Crime Watch contacted SAPS after a staff member of a business on Democracy Way was caught stealing money on the premises. The situation escalated and SAPS was called in.

• 17 March 2024 – House Break-in – While patrolling the area, a woman informed our armed response officer that her house on Shepherds Green Street had been broken into. The break-in happened earlier in the day when the house was empty. Valuables were stolen.
• 20 March 2024 – House Break-in – While monitoring CCTV footage, one of the controllers noticed suspicious behaviour on School Road. Suspected males were seen walking with a trolley. Armed response was dispatched. Contact was made with the client who had reported that he had found his garage door open. Armed response searched Bosmansdam Road and found the abandoned trolley. The items were identified and returned to the client.
• 25 March 2024 – Business Robbery – An alert was received from a business on Summer Greens Drive. Armed response was dispatched. The control room was notified that an armed robbery was in progress. CCTV footage revealed that SAPS had arrived on the scene. Five or more male suspects stole an undisclosed amount of money. A red VW Polo and a white Toyota Corola was involved.

• 10/02/2024 – Break-in – The control room received a call from a client stating that three male suspects were on her roof and attempting to break in. The armed response unit was dispatched to Milnerton Drive. The suspects removed roof tiles and forcefully entered the house through the ceiling. AR officers checked the house and found the bathroom door locked. The suspects jumped out of the bathroom window and fled the scene. Nothing was missing and the client did not want to open a case with SAPS.
• 29/02/2024 – House Break-in – A resident from Parkview Close reported a house robbery. The house had been ransacked and multiple valuable items were stolen. An unmarked red vehicle was involved in the robbery.

• 21/02/2024 – House Break-in – A Crime Watch armed response officer notified the control room that there had been a house break-in within Cardita Circle. The suspects gained entry by forcing a window open. Two flat screen televisions were stolen.

• 17/02/2024 - Fraud – The control room received a panic alarm from a business on Koeberg Road. The armed response unit was dispatched, and the suspect was caught with counterfeit money. SAPS was contacted.
• 19/02/2024 – Business Break-in – A client reported to the control room that he had checked his cameras and noticed that his property on Millvale Road had been broken into. The armed response unit was dispatched and confirmed the break-in. SAPS was informed.

• 11/02/2024 – Business Break-in – The control room dispatched an armed response officer after receiving an alarm signal. The officer found the safety gate and a door forced open. The client confirmed that two PCs and a printer had been stolen. SAPS arrived and a case was opened.
• 27/02/2024 – Business Break-in – A client informed the control room that cables had been cut and stolen on his premises. The armed response unit was dispatched to investigate. Evidence showed that old clothing had been used to climb over the client’s spiked fence.

• 06/01/2024 – Theft – Paddocks – Our armed response officer caught a female suspect attempting to steal three pairs of shoes from PEP Store. The suspect’s husband arrived and paid for the shoes. SAPS was informed.
29/01/2024 – Armed Robbery – Royal Ascot Commercial – An armed robbery took place in Bridle Way. Two black male suspects jumped out of a taxi, one was positively identified as carrying a firearm. The two suspects robbed a black female and a white male and then fled the scene. Camera footage and taxi registration details were handed over to detectives for investigation.

• 13/01/2024 – Theft – Sunset Beach – The control room notified the armed response unit of a potential theft in Soluta Street. An armed response officer and the client checked the property and confirmed that six bags of cement and a cutting machine had been stolen.

• 22/01/2024 – House Break-in – Rugby – The control room was notified about a house break-in. The suspect gained access to the premises by cutting a hole in the roller door. The suspect stole a bicycle and tools.

Tijgerhof
• 27/01/2024 – Theft – Tijgerhof – The control room was notified about a potential theft from motor vehicles within Belamoor Complex. Two male suspects were seen scoping the parked vehicles. Our armed response officer arrived at the complex and noticed that the main gate was off its railing. A client confirmed that the battery had been stolen from his vehicle. A report was made.

Montague Gardens
• 06/01/2024 – Break-in – Montague Gardens – The control room received an alarm activation alert from a business on Longclaw Drive. The client confirmed that he saw the gate open. Our armed response was dispatched, and they found the front door forced open. Items were stolen from the premises. The client will open a case with SAPS.

• 10/12/2023 – Robbery – An armed response officer assisted a foreign male who was robbed. Three male suspects robbed the man on his way home from work. They stole his cell phone and wallet. SAPS was informed.
• 16/12/2023 – House Break-in – A client informed our control room that he found his entire alarm system destroyed. Suspects gained access to his home through the roof and stole computers, laptops and spare vehicle keys. The keys were used to steal the client’s vehicle from the garage. SAPS was notified and arrived on the scene.

• 05/12/2023 – Theft – A client reported remote jamming on her motor vehicle outside Eurolux. Her laptop and handbag were stolen. The client opened a case with SAPS.

Milnerton Ridge
• 03/11/2023 – House Break-in – The control room received a panic alarm from Royal Windsor. The security guard scouted the area and confirmed that there had been an attempted break-in. A window had been smashed and the front door broken. No items were stolen. SAPS was informed and a case was opened.

Royal Ascot Commercial
• 08/11/2023 – Theft – Paddocks – A security guard reported that a handbag had been stolen in the Spar. The control room reviewed CCTV footage and identified 3 female suspects. Two of the suspects acted as a distraction, while the third suspect stole the handbag and left the shop.
• 16/11/2023 – Theft – Paddocks – A security guard reported that an elderly white male had attempted to steal from the Spar. After being confronted, the suspect called a family member to pay for his items.

Royal Ascot Residential
• None

Sunset Beach
• 28/11/2023 – Theft – Back up was requested at Engen Sunset Beach regarding theft from a motor vehicle. The locks of a black Hyundai i10 were forced open. The owner’s laptop was stolen. The incident was reported to SAPS.

Milnerton Central
• 02/11/2023 – Theft – The control room received a call requesting assistance in Ixia Street. While electricians were working at a premises, some tools were stolen. Armed response was dispatched to investigate.
• 04/11/2023 – Theft – The control room received a panic alarm from a business in Ixia Street and dispatched an armed response officer. The client reported that three suspects had stolen cables and fled the scene. Armed response pursued the suspects. The suspects were not caught, but the cables were found and returned to the client. No case was opened.

Rugby
• 20/11/2023 – Business Break-in – The control room received an alarm activation at around 02:53 AM. Armed response was immediately dispatched to the business on Koeberg Road. Upon arrival, armed response discovered two males attempting to steal. One suspect was apprehended and handed over to SAPS. The other escaped.

Tijgerhof
• 09/11/2023 – House Break-in – A Tijgerhof Flats tenant reported that two suspects had used a small gate to access the premises. The suspects broke into a garage and stole a battery from a parked City Golf. Armed response investigated and found that the garage door had been broken open. They were unable to locate the owner of the vehicle.
• 27/11/2023 – Theft – While patrolling, an armed response officer was notified by the caretaker of Voortrekker Hof, that a gate motor had been stolen. The entrance gate was damaged in the process.
