Happy Birthday to the great Mr Brown!
We couldn't run Novalis without this incredible man by our side. Thank you Mr. Brown for pouring your heart into this place and everyone who walks through these walls.
A testimonial about the Novalis Ubuntu Institute as a training venue:
"Our annual training conference for 2024 was successfully held in the Prester John room at the Novalis Ubuntu Institute. This room is separate to but leads onto the main area where lunch and teas were enjoyed by our members. This setup worked very well for us from the point of view that the training sessions were undisturbed by the busyness of our caterers. The centre is well equipped with tables, chairs and heaters which were professionally setup for us before the event, and the kitchen is well stocked with crockery and cutlery for hire at very affordable prices. The technology provided by the centre for our presentation worked well. The building itself has a character-filled architecture and needs some maintenance and repairs in order to offer its full potential, but the space worked for us and the friendliness and responsiveness of the staff at the centre helped to make the day a success for our members. Thank you!"

"Moving into the new building in Rosmead Avenue, Wynberg (Cape) with some 25 full-time facilitators, administrative & financial staff, with healthy fundraising funds streaming in, it soon became apparent that Novalis needed to differentiate its interventions. School Teachers were implementing innovative & holistic methods in their classrooms at many schools; and their principals were not liking the classroom routine changes without a fuller understanding of the philosophical background. Peter King and Leonard Smith embarked upon a School Development Programme assisting principals and heads of departments to better lead their schools with a deeper understanding of the powerful artistic yet natural ways of holistic education pathways, advocated for in our 21st Century."

We are honoured that Amandla Development was in the house today.
Amandla Development is an NPO that aims to empower Philippi youth with equal access to quality education. They work towards breaking the cycle that keeps young people trapped generation after generation. Children in Philippi Township, Cape Town, South Africa, face brutal poverty. Housing is haphazard, opportunities are scarce, and HIV infections claim one in three young women.

"Three visionary sustainable agriculture pioneers were selected as winners of the 2024 Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity, in recognition of their substantial contribution to global food security, climate resilience and ecosystem protection: Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming (India), a state-wide programme supporting smallholders, predominantly women, switch to natural farming; Rattan Lal (USA/India), a scientist who pioneered a soil-centric approach to agriculture; and SEKEM (Egypt), for its biodynamic agriculture work, the Egyptian Biodynamic Association – a network enabling farmers to transition to biodynamic practices."

Rudolf Steiner's theory of child development proposes that children are active agents of their own learning, and are driven by their innate curiosity and drive to grow and evolve.

“South Africa is the heart of the world. It is one of the most exciting and powerful places to live on the planet because everything started here. For 75% of our time as humans on this planet, our species incubated in Africa, and then a small group started to migrate to the rest of the world. We are all African by nature. This is the mother continent.”

There is a pervasive form of contemporary violence to which the idealist most easily succumbs: activism and overwork. The rush and pressure of modern life are a form, perhaps the most common form, of its innate violence. To allow oneself to be carried away by a multitude of conflicting concerns, to surrender to too many demands, to commit oneself to too many projects, to want to help everyone in everything, is to succumb to violence. The frenzy of our activism neutralizes our work for peace. It destroys our own inner capacity for peace. It destroys the fruitfulness of our own work, because it kills the root of inner wisdom which makes work fruitful. Thomas Merton.
Dear friends
It really is true that sound has the most potent and immediate effect on us, opening us to aspects of our being we are not always aware of as we go about the daily activities of our lives. The waves of sound and vibrations of the gong are particularly powerful in inducing a holistic resonance in the body, resulting in a sense of expanced awareness and wholeness. If you feel drawn to being bathed in healing vibrations that bring about a sense of deep peace and joy, I look forward to having you join me on the last Wednesday of the month.
