“Everything in its right place” was the theme of my day yesterday. Many years ago I spent time in the mountains in Peru and I learnt this way of looking at life from the shamans I met there. The shamans work in the mythic realms and create despachos in ceremony which are prayer offerings created in a way to symbolize
the organizing principles of the Universe. They are seen as a central axis of energetic exchange for healing, reestablishing perfect ayni (right relationship) and protection.

Taking time to reorganize my studio and clear out the old and make space for the new reminded me how important it is to step outside the busy-ness and find myself back in right relationship with my working space so that energy can move freely again.

This is a bronze Chiton Shell and is available in De Waterkant. The inside is finished in gold leaf and the outside looks like a dragon’s egg! Swipe to see both pictures.

🌿New release!! 🌿I have some gorgeous new table top totems available. Inspired by the rich colours of the Cedarberg totem rock formations and the deep navy blue rock pools and aqua skies that fade to orange in the evening light. As well as French and English antiques and incredible lamps made in Shelley’s workshop, the shop has a good selection of my bronze seedpods and various totems. If you don’t know the area - it’s the perfect place to find all things interiors. Fabric, wallpaper, furniture, art, antiques, fresh flowers and great food when you are done hunting. The actual creation, manufacturing and building of my totems takes place within the same theme that lies behind the vision for the totems themselves. I am a woman holding the vision and creative dream of what I want to create but I can’t do it alone. I require the energy of multiple men with different skill sets to help me create and birth my pieces. The forging of the bronze, the cutting and polishing of the stones, the hand beating of the brass bases and even the physicality of putting them together requires a coming together of masculine and feminine energies. Men and women working together as co-creators.

This was a ridiculously perfect position with perfect planting and a perfect door to show off my totem. I was sad to move it but it’s now at Constantia Village for the next month so way more people get to enjoy it. 🌸🌿 Leave yourself some extra time to have a look at the art exhibition curated by .st0re as you walk through the center to do your shopping.

This is a bronze Chiton Shell with a gold leaf interior. I found this one when I lived in St James. Chiton shells live in the rock pools along the coast line and have the ability to curl up as the plates can move and overlap. The rough beautiful scales are what I imagine a dragon’s egg must look like. 🐉

Love the repeated fluting of the sculpted wood in the background and the inside of this bronze Buddha Nut.

There was a really magical light yesterday evening when I photographed this totem. It was just as the sun had dipped behind the mountain and the birds were all overhead flying back to the wetland nearby to sleep. The out breath.

Some beauty to share from which has moved back to Dixon Street in De Waterkant. Margie is the queen of retail displays and has been curating the best African art for decades. Make this one of your stops if you are visiting the this weekend - it’s a 5 minute drive from the CTCC.

Did you know that dung beetles navigate via the Milky Way - the first known species to do so in the animal kingdom. The tiny insects can orient themselves to the bright stripe of light generated by our galaxy, and move in a line relative to it. Isn’t that incredible!
