As we all know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we post this to remind everyone that it is important to be aware of what is happening in your body and what to look out for.

Onder het ek drie artikels geplaas van kanker gevalle, al drie jong mense en al drie is oorlede. In die algemeen sou ek nooit so artikel op hierdie blad plaas nie en ons het innige meegevoel met die familie en vriende maar ek glo dat mense teveel glo dit gebeur net met iemand anders.

In die laaste jaar is daar vyf persone na aan my, kliente, familie, vriend en kolegas, wie met kanker gediagnoseer is waarvan die jongste 37 dae oud was en die oudste bykans 70 jaar. Kanker is besig om een van die grootste oorsaake te word van natuurlike sterftes. Ongelukkig is dit nie kanker alleen nie maar vele ander Ernstige siektes wat mens nie noodwendig laat sterf nie maar wat 'n baie groot finansiële terugslag kan beteken.

Mediese fondse dek nie noodwendig al die kostes nie en leefstyl aanpassings word nie deur mediese fondse gedek nie daarom moet 'n mens betyds voorsiening maak. Versekering is nie 'n "Goed om te hê" nie maar 'n "Moet om te hê"

Your question relates to how Sanlam would approach a claim where an insured client is involved in defending a neighbourhood (for instance) against looters. The exclusion clause to which you refer excludes benefits where the insured event relates to someone’s participation in “riot, insurrection, civil commotion, military or hostile action, or an act of terrorism.”

This exclusion is focused on instances where an insured client may have embarked on illegal actions and includes taking the law into their own hands, for example as part of vigilante group. However, taking legal steps to defend yourself and or property within the ambit of what is provided for by law, falls outside the ambit of this exclusion.

So the short answer to your question is that the exclusion clause does not apply to such actions. It needs to be stated, though, that the actions of the insured person would need to be within the ambit of what the law considers as legal under circumstances.
