6 years as a dermatologist!!! How time has flown!
Every so often, I look back with so much gratitude , at my graduation photos from when I qualified as a dermatologist—a Fellow.
In South Africa, once medical specialists, like gynaecologists, surgeons, dermatologists, and others, pass their final exams through The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, they earn the title of Fellow.

This post was inspired by a dear friend who was surprised to learn about the journey to becoming a dermatologist.
It requires not only an MBChB (medical degree) but also two years of internship in a government hospital rotating across medical disciplines, one year of community service in a rural or township hospital, and recently, a diploma in HIV Medicine along with published medical research to even be considered for the dermatology program. Once accepted, it’s four years of dermatology training in government hospitals, intense studying, and finally passing both Fellowship exams and completing a Master’s in Medicine (Dermatology) degree.
Yes 14 years of a journey filled with ups and downs, because life still lifes in the process .

To anyone feeling anxious about upcoming exams: you’ve got this. And to anyone struggling to get up for work, remember how we once prayed , fasted and worked to get here. 🥹🙏🏾

Eczema can be a frustrating skin condition, but there are simple steps you can take to manage it. Do's: Moisturize daily, take lukewarm baths, wear breathable clothing, manage stress, and avoid triggers. Don'ts: Scratch your skin, use harsh soaps, use hot water, wear tight clothing, or pick at your skin.
