South Africa was once the third-largest exporter of asbestos. It was popular for manufacturing household flooring and roofing materials.

These would include roof sealants, coatings, reinforcements, ceilings and tiles. Asbestos initially seemed like a twofold blessing for many unassuming South Africans. What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a carcinogenic mineral. It consists of flexible fibers resistant to heat, electricity and corrosion. These qualities make the mineral useful in many products. They also contribute to asbestos exposure toxicity.

Construction materials contained asbestos because it's an effective insulator. Asbestos in cloth, paper, cement, plastic and other materials makes them stronger.

Inhaling or ingesting asbestos causes fibers to become trapped in the body. Over decades, trapped asbestos fibers can cause inflammation, scarring and cancer.

Asbestos exposure is the primary cause of mesothelioma. Asbestos also causes a progressive lung disease called asbestosis.

The Asbestos Abatement Regulations 2020 provides detailed guidelines for the
identification of asbestos and plans for its removal including the use of registered asbestos contractors only.

Asbestos maintenance and removal is classified into three types of asbestos:

▪️𝐓𝐲𝐩𝐞 1 𝐀𝐬𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐬 includes the painting of asbestos cement products that do not need surface preparation or cause any release of asbestos fibres or the removal of less than ten square meters of asbestos or equivalent gutters and piping or asbestos insulating boards where removal work may not be repeated on the same site within a period of six months.

▪️𝐓𝐲𝐩𝐞 2 𝐀𝐬𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐬 includes the repair or encapsulation of asbestos products in a manner that requires surface preparation or the removal of asbestos cement products or asbestos insulating board.

▪️𝐓𝐲𝐩𝐞 3 𝐀𝐬𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐬 includes the removal, repair, or encapsulation of any asbestos and asbestos containing material.

🟢 The 𝗗𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗗𝗼𝗼𝗿 is a type of exterior door often chosen for entry-point doors. They are split in half, so the top and bottom operate independently. Dutch doors are ideal for a kitchen to let air in.

French doors are usually used as exterior doors since they give rooms plenty of extra light. Metal screws are threaded through the entire body, while wood screws are not. Furthermore, metal screws have more pitches - number of threads per inch - than their wood screw counterparts It's also worth noting that metal
screws are preferred for applications where self-tapping is needed.

In short, wood screws are designed to be driven into wood materials, while
metal screws are designed to be driven into metal materials (hence the names). If you're attempting to attach sheet metal, you should choose metal
screws. They are easier to drive into metal and will offer a greater level of strength and security. On the other hand, wood screws are better suited
for applications involving plywood, lumber and other wood materials.

Although you can use metal screws in wood, wood screws have been meticulously designed for this very purpose. Therefore, they have a few
features that make them easier to drive into wood.

The primary difference between gel and a traditional stain is that gel stain sits on top of the wood while a traditional stain sinks in, as a result, it lets some of the wood's unique markings and texture shine through while delivering a crisp, consistent finish not dissimilar to paint.

Choosing between gel and liquid stain often comes down to the project you're doing. Gel stain works well on nonporous wood such as Masonite and hardboard because it doesn't enhance the wood grain. Gel stains are also good for fiberglass and metal and for use on vertical surfaces. Gel stains are not good for pine, birch or cherry because the swirly texture encourages blotches. Do not use gel stains on projects that have a lot of corners, details and crevices because the stain pools in these areas.

Liquid stains are best for furniture, cabinets, moldings, wood floors, doors and porous surfaces where you want to enhance the wood grain. Porous woods, such as mahogany, walnut, ash and oak, look their best with liquid stain to bring out the character and grain in the wood.

1️⃣ 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜 (nylon, dacron or polyester) - ideal for most latex paints (water-based paints).

PVA primer is a special type of primer that gets your walls ready to receive paint and so much more. This makes the paint itself adhere much more effectively, in fact, using it can dramatically reduce the amount of time that you spend trying to paint the walls inside your home.

The idea is to create a soft surface that will allow a paint to adhere effectively. Using a primer makes the job go much more quickly, because you're not having to apply as many coats of paint in order to get the same
results.

Initially, you might believe that using this primer will only make the job take longer, as it adds an extra step. However, you'll be doing yourself a huge favour to simply use it as opposed to trying to go straight to the painting step. Skipping the PVA primer will only force you to apply several coats of paint.
