Today is World International White-Cane Day.
15/10/2021
A white-cane being a vital component in the mobility guide and safety for people with visual impairments, helping them navigate independently. Today we raise awareness to the importance of the white- cane and that when you see someone with a white cane crossing the road you must be considerate and also ask if they need any assistance especially when you see that they might be in any danger. A person with visual impairment must not be denied their rights to use the roads instead be accommodated and assisted when needed. Along with people with visual impairment should have access to tools such as a white-cane, a good quality white-cane too.

Gezephi Foundation with South African National Council for the Blind Celebrates:
WORLD SIGHT DAY 2021 ποΈποΈπ
14 October 2021 was World Sight Day. This day was celebrated annually on the second Thursday of October and focuses global attention on eye health, prevention of avoidable blindness, vision impairment and vision rehabilitation.
The theme for World Sight Day 2021 is Love Your Eyes. Eye health impacts education, employment, quality of life, poverty and so many other Sustainable Development Goals. This World Sight Day, the call to action is for the public and organisations to come together to encourage government, institutions and individuals to actively support universal access to eye health and ensure that EVERYONE COUNTS.
High-quality and high volume eye care services are usually made accessible to all disadvantaged communities of South Africa. This is essential for accomplishing universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goal 3 which ensures healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages. The World Report on Vision, which was launched in 2019 by the World Health Organisation in collaboration with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, provides guidance and inspiration on how to advance integrated people-centered eye care and raise awareness in order to help protect sight for all ages. There are many ways that elite members of society countrywide can contribute to this deliberate programme.
The South African National Council for the Blind in partnership with Life Health Care and the Eastern Cape Department of Health will be launching the Cataract Outreach Project in the Eastern Cape today in commemoration of World Sight Day.
In the βCall to Action" for World Sight Day, The South African National Council for the Blind calls on government and business houses to partner with non-profit organisations to take a proactive approach to ensure adequate, accessible, and affordable eye-health care for all.

Catch us live on Channel 403 unpacking on the position of the Gezephi Foundation on the Covid 19 vaccination rollout..
As Gezephi, we pay homage to the youth of June 16 1976 today, Happy Youth DayπΏπ¦πΏπ¦πΏπ¦!
We also advocate for change for the youth that will follow after us as it was done by the youth before us. The youth that is fighting for equal opportunities and rights for all. βββπΏπ¦
Thank you for having us πβ€οΈ.
We as Gezephi Foundation unpacked the importance of prioritizing and helping the disabled, more importantly the visually impaired especially when it comes to the Covid19 regulations and vaccination.
As Gezephi Foundation we see a gap in the helping people with disabilities when it comes to their rights especially when it comes to availability of information for them when it comes to covid19. We suggested that there is an availability of audio and resources such as braille when it comes to signage talking about social distancing and Covid19.
We also suggested that we work together with governmental offices when it comes to helping the visually impaired in becoming independent and getting the necessary tools to be, namely canes because they cannot risk using the elbows of someone leading them.
The prioritization of their vaccination has never been more urgent as the visually impaired are the group that's most vulnerable to this.
We are calling to people and groups that are willing to advocate with us and more of disabled (visually) individuals to also show themselves to us so we can help and hear what they think will be best for us to help. πππππ
