Was absolutely thrilled to be part of this amazing event this past Sunday. Can’t wait for next month. Remember guys, the market is on the last Sunday of every month at 4 Swapo Road. 🌈🥰
3 years later and I have FINALLY finished this c2c blanket made using Alula in Pinicola by Elle Yarns. It was either a case of procrastination or I couldn’t always find another yarncake when I needed to continue. I made this one for myself as I really wanted to make a blanket just for me and it’s one of the most gorgeous yarns I ever worked with. But here’s the sad thing & almost devastating thing (tragedy has been averted though)...Elle Yarns has discontinued it. You wouldn’t believe the panic I had when I heard that as I was almost going to fall into chicken yarn. I couldn’t find the yarn in any stores near me. I called Elle directly but they don’t sell to the public & then I was told they discontinued this beauty. However one of the ladies told me of the last store they supplied all the way in The Bluff. I called and not only did they have a few left but they marked the price down too. No way I was going to settle for just one so I got 3 cakes. I have two left now (half left from completing the blanket I’m using to make something else). Anyway, that’s the story & thank goodness 3 years was not gone down the drain. I was never going to frog this project any under circumstances.

Hi guys. If you are aware of my work with Society 6, please also check out this store by a friend & work colleague of mine Eugenne Alberts. She’s a phenomenal photographer & graphic design artist. Any support to her store is greatly appreciated. Much like myself, she is also trying to create support to help aid her in getting an MRI (I can’t remember the medical term) but she has been working very hard for all 5 years I have known her at all her artwork & is one of the most hardworking people I know. Please visit her site, support in any way you can, also in sharing her artwork through your social media. Even that much helps get exposure so others can support her work too. If you have any questions please let me know.

Aaaaaand all the external parts of the junk journal/art journal are complete. Made a trip to Waste Centre in Umhlanga yesterday & spent a good while deciding on ribbons & lace (the little cream one I got there), the pink one was from an old Lush Gift Set (recycle, re-use & re-purpose people!!!💕). I love the whole concept of making something from things most people would discard. The cover is made from old corrugated boxes which Lush stock comes in (again...recycle & re-use). The canvas fabric I got a couple of years back. And the rose canvas trim too. The inside signatures are made up of old scrapbook off-cuts (no throwing away), & some pages I had in an extra copy of a Lush Essential Oils handbook. I added some other details inside (washi tape, stickers etc, envelopes I made from other cutouts). This took me about two weeks to get done but in all honesty it was mostly because I couldn’t decide how to put my signatures together. The actual making isn’t that long. I will be making more of these & they will be for sale if anyone is interested. You can always write in them, stick old photos or quotes or tickets etc. All kinds of ephemera that have sentimental value to you. 💕
Hey Guys 🍀
I know it's been a LONG TIME but I'm trying to pull myself out of this funk. This is a bit of a long post but please read all the way through.
I am looking at starting 2020 completely anew & that means completely new designs & product ranges. I'm in the planning stages. I PROMISE 2020 will be better & for everyone who has supported me thus far, I am eternally grateful to you. I know it's really last minute but during the course of tomorrow I will be posting items for sale. These could be last minute XMAS goodies or even stocking fillers. Quantity is limited so it's all first come, first serve. This will be Durban only as well. I would appreciate too if you could share the sales posts once they are up. Any support in terms of exposure, will be rewarded with a thank you treat.
Something else I am also looking to do going forward is a charity drive. So if you know anyone who also crochets or is keen to learn, we can do a circle of people twice a month where we get together to crochet little baby items with our, as crocheters call them, “scrap yarn” and make maybe little booties or hats, whatever any preemie or abandoned babies need. There is a lady named Jane who works in Elna in Gateway who collects these for preemie babies. Also, I am looking at donating to the Hop Shop who collect anything, and funds made from these items go towards abandoned babies and their needs. If you'd like to know more, please feel free to message me.
To everyone who has made it this far, thank you so much 💕
Lovies...TP # # #💕
So we have been asked to keep little notebooks at work just for us to keep track of what we do through the day etc. I decided to decorate mine with some colourful paper & stickers that were part of the Christmas range from Santoro London (I'm a massive fan of so I have a ton of these for my crafting projects) 💕
If anyone is interested is bespoke book decorating let me know and I can give you a quote 💕

JUST A BIT OF HISTORY INTO PARASTAR ARTS
Parastar Arts is an arts & crafts business specialising in handmade goodies such as crochet items , handmade jewellery as well as any random idea that finds me. Most of the things I make are one of a kind. Crochet is my main branch of creativity. The things I crochet most are beanies, scarves & blankets. I rarely do custom orders but am always open to ideas and discussing if I am able to make something you're looking for.
One of the things I strive to do when it comes to other arts & crafts is repurposing materials so as to not waste & also recycle or re-use.
Parastar Arts began in 2010 when I was in between jobs & needed to make some sort of income. A relative gave me some beads to keep me occupied with my crafty pursuits. I managed to get some jump rings and earring hooks and made earrings which I sold to whoever loved them. Slowly but surely, I taught myself how to make a lot of other accessory type jewellery from bracelets to necklaces & keychains.
When I decided to au pair in America for 2 years, I took advantage of the opportunity of having unlimited internet access at my host home to watch YouTube videos & taught myself to crochet. I sold my creations to fellow au pairs & also for a short time on etsy.
Upon returning to South Africa, I would still craft & sell to whoever saw my posts on social media. I had a Hello Pretty store for a short period but these days promote my work mostly via my page & Instagram.
I have also participated in the Wonder Market twice now.
I'm always looking for new ways to keep my creative streak going and always finding new avenues to promote my work.
It's been 10 years, but I hope to someday make this my only source of business & income. With social media becoming a great platform for promoting, I'm sure I will achieve that goal & dream soon.
Hey guys, just want to say, from now on I will not be doing custom orders. As I do have a full time job and am pursuing some other ventures such as my Curator work with Society 6, custom orders can most of the time be very time consuming and to be honest thoroughly frustrating. As the person crafting, I know the amount of time it takes and the effort. People ask for something only to have a gazillion mind changes far different from what they ask. It also ends up becoming a loss for me due to cost of materials I need in order to make changes and as a business this is not feasible for me. Most of all, I will not be doing big designs like ponchos. Please refer to products/designs I have on my various social media. If you request those particular types of items, it can easily and gladly be done. I do need to have rest time after a work day at my day job. Also, as I have been doing this for ten years, I am fully aware of how to run my business. There have been some who offer unsolicited advice with no experience on the matter and I would appreciate it if that would stop. I have managed to keep this going for a decade and know how it fits into my lifestyle and in line with other priorities too. As many of you know I have many health issues and of late I have needed more time than usual for resting and putting my health first. Please understand this above all else is why I'm doing this. For those who understand, thank you.
Much Love...Tanya
Finally finished the second kid's poncho order. Client will be picking them up tomorrow. It's been a bit of a hard one I must admit but I've managed to get both done in 3 weeks.
Pretty chuffed to finally have completed my first ever kids poncho using granny stitch 🌸 off to finish the second as my client is expecting it by this weekend.

Day off and took the leftover yarn and wound into balls of multi-colour crazy. Not sure if this should be a blanket (since it's quite thick and squishy and winter is soon coming), or let it be a scarf... thoughts?
