An incredibly successful weekend for Crusaders cricket, with our 1st XI winning the playoff game against MCC from Maritzburg to earn our spot in Club Champs, which is set to take place between 8-10th of December in Potchefstroom.

Special mention to Samkelo Gasa (4 for 7) and Nduduzo Mfoza (3 for 7) who helped us restrict the visitors to only 47 runs which was chased down easily with a quickfire knock of 33 off 12 balls from Marques Ackerman.

Sunday saw us take on Harlequins where an outstanding opening spell from Cameron Gordon broke the back of the visitors with our spinners Jake Carstens and Caleb Hibbert cleaning up the middle order and restricting the visitors to 123 all out. The target was reached with only one wicket down and Callon Harris reigning himself in with an uncharacteristically slow 60 off 55 balls.

The 2nd team also faced off against Harlequins and decided to put the visitors in to bat. Some outstanding bowling from Julian Tromp who took 4 for 45 in his 6 overs left our batting unit 191 runs to chase.

The innings was held together outstandingly by Brandon McCabe who scored 85 off 78 balls and steered the team to victory by 4 wickets and a couple overs to spare.

Well done to all involved!

With the weather playing a major role this past weekend our 4th XI were the only team who managed to get onto the park.

Taking on Harlequins the Saders men won the toss and chose to bat. We posted a respectable 208/7 in our allotted 30 overs with Justin Dean scoring 57. A quickfire cameo from Crusaders legend Gary Denisson (39* off 28), who is currently playing in his 32nd season for the club, helped get us over the 200 mark.

Harlequins were on the ropes at 96/6 when the rain came down halting play and eventually leading to the match being abandoned.

Shaun Lobban taking 3/26.

The 4th XI look to continue their good start to the season with a home fixture on Saturday afternoon 🏏

The cricket season is now well underway with all our senior cricket teams having played their first fixture of the season over the past weekend. 🏏

The 1st XI have progressed to the knockout round of the T20 competition, having won all their games besides a rained off fixture against ACC. The star performance so far was an incredible century from one of our Hollywoodbets Dolphins stars Marques Ackerman who scored 115* against Delta resulting in an 87 run win against one of our top 3 rivals from last season.

The 2s got their season underway against DHS Old Boys with a comfortable victory after losing the toss and being put into the field. The bowlers picked up regular wickets with Tyson Heffer and Jason Forge picking up 2 wickets each. However, the attack was spearheaded by Caleb Hibbert who took 4 wickets for 11 runs in his allotted 6 overs ,crippling the visitors to a measly total of 62. Caleb then proceeded to score 29* along with opening partner Callon Harris who scored 24 to get the team over the line with a comfortable 9 wicket victory.

The 3rd XI got their campaign off to winning ways against Hillary Malvern having restricted them to 104/9 in their 20 overs with wickets being spread around the bowling attack. The run chase was made to look comfortable, with the Saders men chasing the target in the 13th over with only 5 wickets down. Some dominant batting was on display from Andrew Holmes and Steve Thomson who scored 30 and 33 respectively.

We don't call them the World XI for nothing πŸ˜‰

The 4ths also got their season off to winning ways against DHS Old Boys after bowling the visitors out for 171, Mike Shaw with an outstanding 4 wickets for 21 runs. The skipper in his post match interview mentioned a dropped catch which denied Mike his 5for, but we won't name and shame the guilty party. The run chase was dominant as the home side chased the target with only two wickets down, lead by an outstanding innings from Brad Pieters (80).

A clean sweep for our cricket section this weekend, and long may it continue!

A reminder that the 1st XI take on Chatsworth Sporting at home in the semi final on Sunday at 9:00. We would love the community to bring their families down to the club to support, grab some some awesome food, an ice cold beverage, listen to some live music and hopefully chat about how the Springboks totally played the poms off the park on Saturday evening. πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦
