An old man is selling watermelons.

His pricelist reads: 1 for $3, 3 for $10

A young man stops by and asks to buy one watermelon.
"That'd be 3 dollars", says the old man.

The young man then buys another one, and another one, paying $3 for each.

As the young man is walking away, he turns around, grins, and says, "Hey old man, do you realize I just bought three watermelons for only $9? Maybe business is not your thing."

The old man smiles and mumbles to himself, "People are funny. Every time they buy three watermelons instead of one, yet they keep trying to teach me how to do business..."

🔥 3 Simple Tips that will help you get off on the right foot with FB when it comes to running ads for your business.

✅1) Don't mess with the Sheriff...

Zuck's created the FB platform and his team implemented advertising policies for which advertisers need to abide by. Don't for one minute think the policies are guidelines and open for interpretation - they are not! If you don't adhere to the policy, they will do one of two things depending on the transgression...

i) If it's a minor issue related to an image or text within an ad, they will simply disapprove your ad and ask that you correct the error (this is great because you have a chance to figure out what you did wrong and learn with no damage to your account)

ii) A major policy violation can and will get your account shut down! Boom, no warning, just shut down. Unfair you may say.. yes it may seem so on the surface, but Facebook expect advertisers to understand and obey the law (Advertising Policies) and be compliant at all times. If you transgress, they don't have time to school you, after all that is your job (know what you are doing), they just take care of the problem by kicking you out! This sheriff takes no s**t!

Understand this, know the rules and play by them.

✅2) Proof of the pudding...

New advertisers can often make this mistake in that they jump into FB ads and start setting up ads and running them without taking the time to "prove" to FB that they know what they are doing.

Think of it like this, you find a new supplier for goods and services for your business, their pricing is right, the promise is good and all the boxes are checked... The only thing you need to do now is establish trust and that is done by doing business.

Now the question you have is exactly how do you establish trust? Would you give the new supplier a small pocket of business to test the waters or would you start off with a massive order right off the bat and assume everything will be just fine?

A few might adopt the "go big or go home" strategy and risk it all but for most of us, we would mitigate risk and test the waters with small orders to establish business rapport.

The same approach needs to be applied to running FB ads when you account is brand new. Start off with a small campaign, set a small budget and show Facebook that you know exactly what you are doing and have a good grasp of their Advertising Policies. Let your ad run for 5 days and make sure you hit your billing threshold (set it to around R300 - R500) so that a payment can be processed with no issues. This send the right signals to Zuck's and his team and makes them a little less edgy.

As you run more and more campaigns, you will notice that each time you submit ads, your review period will get shorter and shorter to the point in time that approvals will be almost instant!

✅3) Be the teachers pet...

Totally uncool at school but so good in business! Keep doing things right, study policies and understand what you can and can't do... While FB is generally intolerant of transgressors, their platform has great inbuilt tech that will guide you and send you signals when you are doing something wrong. If you get a caution when placing an Ad, don't ignore it, find out the issue and sort it out...

If ads get rejected, fix them immediately and don't leave them unapproved in your account. This pi**es Zuck off and if you keep doing it, well... "p**f"... your account is gone and you are left scratching your head playing victim claiming you have done nothing wrong!!

The world is not out to get you, Zucks simply wants to run a clean ship and has no place for dirty sailors on deck...

As an advertiser, you cannot afford to be the greasy car mechanic, you need to adapt to become the formula one engineer!

Aim for full marks with each ad... The teacher will reward you more than you can imagine. The more compliant your ads are, the better your reach, the lower your costs...
