CORONA LOCK DOWN

Dear Patients

During the lock down period the practice will remain open.

Although we are experiencing a pandemic, normal medical conditions still exist and patients still get other illnesses. We are therefore still open to assist our existing patients during this difficult period.

In order to support social distancing, we do, however, recommend only visiting the practice when needed and for valid medical purposes. I will not be providing any procedural or surgical services during this period and will only provide routine consultations.

All telephonic and email enquiries will be dealt with on merit and responded to where appropriate. Telephonic or virtual consultations and scripts will be billed according to medical aid tariffs. Preference will be given to consultations with patients who have appointments.

Should you suspect that you may have the Corona virus infection, then we can still be of assistance. Please inform my receptionist that you may be infected when you make the appointment.

To limit potential exposure, if you suspect you may have Corona, when you arrive please remain in you car and phone the practice to let us know that you are here and waiting. When it is your turn, then we will phone you to come inside.

I will then examine you using personal protective equipment and if necessary the tests samples for Corona Virus will be taken. These samples are a nasal swab whereby a long soft tipped swab is placed via each nostril deep into your sinus passage and rotated. An additional sample is taken using a similar swab that is inserted through your mouth into the back of your throat and rotated. The procedures are uncomfortable and may induce coughing, gagging or sneezing.

The samples will then be sent urgently to the lab for processing. Currently the turn around time for results is 24 to 48 hours, but this may become longer as demand increases.

Non-medical aid or private patients will not be tested on site but will be referred to Tygerberg Hospital for testing via the State testing facility. The necessary required forms will be completed to take with to ease the process at Tygerberg Hospital.

Should you test positive for Corona Virus then I will contact you directly to advise on further management.

In order to respect social distancing the following measures are in place for all patients that come to the practice:

1. Only patients may enter the practice.
2. No accompanying persons allowed.
3. Children with appointments may only have 1
accompanying adult.
4. In the unlikely event that there are already 4 people in the
waiting area, then please remain outside until someone
leaves and then you may enter.
5. If you have a mask, please wear it upon entering
6. Always cough into you elbow and away from others.
7. Wash you hands frequently
