IKHWELOLethu is a programme within Bumb ‘Ingomso, based in the Eastern Cape.
It is aimed at 10 to 14 year olds, creating -awareness about self and others, with specific attention to gender identity, expression and role expectations.

April was a busy month for IKHWELOLethu, as we hosted three Parent-Child Dialogues!
The response from parents and teachers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the content as interesting. This initiative is helping families to communicate better and develop stronger relationships.

Mentors attending the 2-day ECDOE Reading Strategy Training program that is designed to provide mentors with a comprehensive understanding of effective reading strategies that can be implemented in schools.
The training focuses on key areas such as:
1. School Reading Policy
2. Roles and Responsibilities of Schools
3. Reading Literacy Plan
4. Necessary Conditions for Improving Reading
By empowering mentors with these reading strategies and insights, the hope is that they will be able to effectively implement these practices in their respective schools. By promoting reading and instilling a love for reading in learners, mentors can make a significant impact on the overall literacy levels and academic success of students.

Ikhwelo as a call to young people to decide who they are, to stand up and
express themselves, to believe in themselves and in their future. IKHWELOLethu
is also a call from young people to society to let them be who they want to be.
