My top tips for Managers and Entrepreneurs:

1. Step outside of your comfort zone

It’s easy for leaders, managers and entrepreneurs to get caught up in their day-to-day responsibilities and tasks. However, to grow both professionally and personally, I encourage business leaders to step out of their comfort zone and into their stretch zone. This is because, while their comfort zone might feel safe and familiar, it’s very easy to get stuck there. So, when they take even small steps into their stretch zone they can start to grow, and as a result, their comfort zone expands with them.

2. Connect with your team

Making an investment in your people will not only make them feel valued but will also encourage their own investment in your business. As your business grows, it is important to continue to help your employees grow in their careers along with the business. When people feel invested in, they are more likely to care about their work and the workplace.

3. Know your priorities

More often than not, leaders of businesses or start-ups are trying to keep their head above water and be all things to all people. This usually isn’t very sustainable or effective, so instead, they should focus on the business objectives. One of the best ways to do this is to set clear goals that result in propelling their business forward.

4. Be proactive, not reactive

Although progress requires actions, business leaders often fall into the trap of being reactive as opposed to proactive. Having clear goals can help with this, as they create a clear map for the way forward, but also look at current processes highlighting strengths and weaknesses so potential problems can be dealt with.

Toxic environments make people sick, make projects fail, and make best employees quit.

"Culture is more important than vision. Some leaders have great vision, but have created a toxic culture where that vision will never happen." Phil Cooke

Signs you work in a toxic environment:

1) Disrespect and belittlement

2) Unreasonable pressure to get short term results at expense of the long term strategy

3) Inequity, unfairness, favoritism, injustice

4) Any kind of harassment and bullying

5) Lack of empathy, of appreciation, of support

6) Excessive control known as micromanagement

7) Morally questionable environments, lack of integrity, encouragement of dishonesty

In an environment like this, no matter how great a vision and strategy are - they will never be executed on.

Great leaders fix toxic cultures.

They empower, involve, listen, appreciate, challenge, support, mentor. They value hard work and job well done, honesty, integrity, commitment and dedication.

*HOW TO NEGOTIATE A SALARY INCREASE 2019*

In a perfect world, you would get paid what you are worth. Your manager would notice your incredible contribution to the success of the team and all the extra effort you put in to deliver exceptional value and they would offer you a salary increase, right?

Well maybe in a perfect world, but in reality, if you want an increase or a promotion you may have to take it upon yourself and stop waiting for someone to notice you. What is surprising is how many hard-working people are getting paid a lot less than they are worth. To date I have not met one person who is comfortable with asking to get paid more, this falls outside most people’s comfort zone.

Below are a few tips I’ve put together to help you ask for a salary increase.

*1. Know your worth*
Firstly, it is important to know what your role to the company is worth, know how much your skill is worth in the job market and if the company you are working for can afford to pay such a salary. Check out https://www.payscale.com

*2. Don't focus on why you need it, focus on why you deserve it*
Playing the sympathy card on you are struggling to make ends meet even though you work so hard is not going to get you the desired results. It is a *victim mentality* that management might not appreciate. Also remember you are not begging, you are simply stating the facts and asking to be fairly compensated for the service you are delivering.

*3. Check policy*
Read up on your companies’ policy on increases. Things like time in position and amount of time since your last increase might not be in your favour and the last thing you want is to go in and get shut down for not understanding how things work. You do not need to wait to meet those conditions but at least when you are stating your position you will be taken far more seriously for saying “I am aware I’m not eligible for an increase for the next three months and I’m happy to wait for it.”

*4 Go in prepared*
You get one shot to do it right the first time, you can always come back and ask again if you messed it up the first time but now the perception your manager has of you might make it harder for him/her to take you seriously. Write down your points and rehearse your delivery, anticipate questions you might have to answer and prepare your response.

*5. Bring back up*
Anything from customer feedback to reports on how your direct contribution increased the team’s success is very helpful when it comes to stating your value. Please do not expect to be rewarded for simply doing your job, you are already getting paid for that whether you think it’s enough money or not. At the beginning of your employment you got the opportunity to negotiate your price and you made an agreement with your employer to deliver on your KPI,s for that amount. If you want an increase you also have to increase the value you bring.

*6. Show you are ready to grow*
Don’t assume your ambition will be noticed with no effort from your side. Update your résumé to show the growth from when you started to where you are. Including a paragraph of short-term growth plans on the profile section of your résumé can also be helpful. Don’t assume résumés are only for job seekers, if you want to be taken seriously you have to act accordingly.

What is motivation? We all know when we have it and when we don't. In our society, we're often told - explicitly and implicitly - that without motivation, nothing would ever get done. No wonder this mysterious motivation stuff is so sought after!

Yet despite the constant quest for the Holy Grail of motivation, I don’t think it’s something we can ever “find”. The truth is, motivation is the state that naturally arises when our desire for something – or to do something – overrides our desire to stay still. When that happens, we find ourselves moving forward effortlessly, almost mindlessly, in a natural flow of action, often accompanied by feelings of excitement, expectation, and pleasure. Motivation is you, moving forward.

Here are 3 steps to unlock your motivation:

Step 1: Respect your inertia

When you’re not motivated, don’t jump to the immediate conclusion that you should be. Take the time to tune into why you’re not motivated. It could be that your energy levels are low, and that you need a rest before you charge off in the direction of your latest goal. You wouldn’t set out on a long, fast journey in your car with no oil, little fuel, and a rusty engine, would you? No – you’d have the engine tuned and oiled, and the tank filled. Afford yourself the same respect and take some rest and recuperation, if you need it. If you’re actively demotivated – that is, if you feel yourself actually resisting moving towards something – again, ask yourself “why?”.

Become still and go inside – do you really want the thing you’re trying to become motivated about – or do you just want to want it? There’s a big difference, and you won’t be able to properly awaken your desire until you know which position you’re coming from. Also, make sure that it’s you that’s doing the wanting. No one else can be motivated on your behalf.

Are you going after your own goal, or a goal that someone else has set for you, that you’re none too thrilled about?

Step 2: Awaken your desire

Motivation appears when your desire is stronger than any barrier or obstacle it’s going to have to face. It doesn’t always seem that way – we can be motivated and terrified at the same time, moving forward in a state of fear (during an exam, for example). And yes, of course we can be motivated to move away from something, as well as towards something.

Nonetheless, the fact that you are able to move at all is an indication that something in you is stronger than any force – internal or external – that’s trying to keep you still. To fully realise you motivation, you have to do one of two things – either overcome resistance, or awaken desire.

Overcoming resistance is about checking out whether you’ve got any limiting beliefs you need to tackle, or perhaps some very practical external obstacles you need to deal with.

To awaken desire, you need to focus on what you stand to gain from moving forward. By all means, focus on the ultimate goal, but you must focus on the small steps too. In fact, it’s best to find the “smallest unit of gain” you possibly can, and focus on building your desire for that.

So, the next time you have big task to tackle, such as a dissertation to write – don’t sit staring blankly at a pile of paper; pick up just one sheet, and look forward, with all your heart, to the feeling you’ll have when you’ve written just one sentence. Love it for its own sake, and write it. Then write the next for the same reason…and the next…and the next. Before long, you’ll have the first of many pages, and you’ll be on your way.

Step 3: Go for it!

I’m not a fan of positive thinking slogans like “just do it”, because I find myself thinking “if it was that easy, we would! The fact we’re not doing it means something’s stopping us.” But in this case, it is useful to remind ourselves that motivation is a state of action. Without taking action, we can’t find the smallest unit of gain.

Getting started – no matter how small the step – will put us in touch with what it was that attracted us to starting in the first place, and give us the opportunity to build the strength of that connection. It’ll also get us out in the world, where we’re more likely to bump into other people, new ideas, and fresh opportunities.

There are few things more motivating than that! So, rest if you need to. Remind yourself of why you wanted to move forward in the first place. Then – get to it. By taking even that smallest step towards a dream, we’ll awaken and feed our desire, and – as if by magic – motivation will appear, and we’ll be moving forward again. Not because we went looking for it, but because we got out of our own way, and let motivation appear naturally, in perfect timing. “Motivation is in the doing.”

💜A powerful business woman is a fierce woman who knows her worth.

💜A powerful business woman shows up on time, for she knows this communicates to the people she works with that she values their time and energy.

💜A powerful business woman won’t collaborate, work or walk beside companies or individuals who do not value her time and energy.

💜She understands that knowing what we don’t love is just as important as knowing what we do love.

💜She has worked mediocre jobs and is grateful for the support those stepping stones offered on on the path to her dream career.

💜She believes careers are like soulmates—we can have many in one lifetime, and it is important when we are checked out and finished with a career, that we exit with as much grace as we entered.

💜A powerful business woman is in a career that brings her joy—she knows that working for just the money is soul prostitution.

💜A powerful business woman runs her own show but also understands the importance of asking for support.

💜She understands that truly receiving requires vulnerability and she is strong enough to show her underbelly to the world.

💜A powerful business woman speaks her truth, refusing to be swayed, altered, misrepresented or controlled.

💜Her integrity doesn't have a price tag.

💜You will see Gym, Yoga or Art Classes penciled into her schedule and she will honour them with as much importance as the big break she's been waiting for.

💜She knows that we are never too busy for self care. Her well-being doesn’t give a damn how busy she is.

A powerful business woman will not live in fear of competition, for she knows that even if someone tries their hardest, they will never do it exactly like she will.

💜She knows there is space in this world for all of us, and is welcoming rather than intimidated by others who pop up beside her.

💜She is not a people-pleaser, and she operates from a place of knowing her worth instead of caring what people think of her.

💜A powerful business woman is not here to play small and understands that by walking her tallest, she gives other people permission to do the same.
